Basing is done on the previous brute and Chaos Lord, and I'll post a group photo when I'm done with everything completely to show it. zyl- Posted December 18, 2012 Author Share Posted December 18, 2012 Call to Chaos V December 2nd update In order to keep up with the requirements and evenly space posts, my update will be posted now. I have not made any meaningful progress towards completing the remaining 20 cultists that make up the rest of my Call to Chaos V units. This is mostly because I got distracted painting a unit of raptors and my aegis defense line. Sadly those projects are 3/5 and 2/7 done respectively, so I really have nothing to show from my lack of particular focus as far as completed units goes. While it is overall progress, and I can't be ashamed of that, I will be posting completion pictures come the new year. Would be nice to see them close up :) Dread looks coool also - you may want to look to add a similar depth to the armour, as the right arm is fantastic - but the blue doesn't really stand out for me! zyl- Posted January 1, 2013 Author Share Posted January 1, 2013 I might be able to get some up close pics then. I have a chronic problem with flatter blues on the vehicles because of three things. One is that the blue is so light it doesn't wash well because it darkens the color up more than I want it to. Two is that it's so light it doesn't highlight well because only white is lighter, which doesn't show up under normal light, and three is that I just have so many unpainted models that I take much less time to do the (boring) vehicles. The cultists' flesh could potentially use a wash too. But you seem to have your metals and glow-effects pretty much down packed...or is it down pact? Whatever. zyl- Posted April 5, 2013 Author Share Posted April 5, 2013 I believe it's "down pat." All the parts you mentioned are washed, but there's a two fold problem with the pictures. One is that the camera tends to brighten away with some colors, and two is that I paint in the living room, which isn't really studio light. If you look at the fiend's head, you can see the shading and hilighting on the teeth and mouth, but it doesn't appear on the neck at all. The exact same paint pattern was used, though, and it looks the same in my hands. As for the blue, on the fiend you can see that I did darkening around the edges of it (with a wash), but I'm not really sure what else I can do to make that color look any more vibrant on armor plates like that. The only color I can hilight it with is white, and that sometimes disappears with that shade of blue. Unless whitening out the center would look right? Another possibility maybe is to hilight it with another color, but even that would have to be very close to white. Obviously the best answer would be "don't use that color you moron," but I'm too far along for that regret. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
