Ok - to try to keep Captain Semper's blood pressure down I have tried to pull out all the stops for this part of my vow but I have not quite completed it....

After 4 evenings painting they are at this state

Elmo, Elmo, Elmo........you certainly never fail to impress. seriously man, your grasp of the DA's feel is, to say the least, spot on IMO.

couple of observations;

1.) the Land Raider kills it, well done

2.) Kudos on the use of the praetorian legs, now that I've seen them in green, I'm gonna get some.

4.) all the little FH detail on the Termies.......wow!

5.) yes I skipped 3

6.) the Command Squad.........brilliant job. consider the green piping on the robes stolen.

all in all, very inspiring work. keep it up bro!

Needless to say I DEMAND the recipe for the robes ^^

As you DEMAND I must obey :)

As with most of my stuff I try to go for an easy option so here it is...

All my stuff is based with Chaos black primer

Robes outer:

1. Tau Sept Ochre

2. Layer of watered down Bleached bone

3. 2nd layer of Bleached bone

4. Wash with 50/50 Devlin mud/water

5. Drybrush with Bleached bone

6. Light drybrush with Skull white

Robes inner: (also same for my weapon casings)

1. Mecrite red

2. Scab red - or Red gore

3. Devlin mud - pooling it in the folds/centre of flat sheets

4. Highlight in Blood red

I managed to do all the robes in one evening so it does not take long when you get a production line done and are listening to HH audio books in the background ;)

furioso-prime: Thanks man, I have always seen the DAs as dark, brooding and gothic so that is the way I try to go with the models but inside that trying to give a bit of an individual feel to each member of the Command squad as these guys are veterans who have been around a bit, hence the FH work on each model.

I also wanted to make them seem like they where pointing out their next victims - the pointing PF and the thrusting Maul are perfect for this. It makes them look like they are saying "you're next heretic"

Steal the piping with my best wishes - They still need a little tidying up - eyesight was going as I am getting old now ;)

+blood pressure stabilizes+

+vital readings return within acceptable levels+

+subject's mental situation, as yet undetermined+

Apothecary Servon: You can now rise Captain Semper. Elmo-pattern stimulants are taking effect. You understand what I'm saying?

Captain Semper: Wow nice robes there! the thin green line adds tons of character - something I've often thought of but never had the guts to try it. Impressive stuff! This melta bomb also looks extra cool!

+subject's mental situation critical - completion rate increase recommended+

+Servon out+

Brilliant work Elmo, so many great pieces in here and so much inspiration. The freehand throughout is amazing especially on the techmarine for the Raider and the robes on the veterans. To have completed the work so quickly too... wow, just wow!

Good luck with the rest of the ETL!

LOL, I know what you mean bro! a couple of other things I thought were cool are the metal accents on the backpack and the detail on the shield on the shield ;) very nice.

Elmo9141 that command squad is looking awesome sauce. The detail on the robe edges is excellent – man you must have both a steady hand and better eyes than me !!

Cheers

Captain Semper: first time I have been described as a stimulant :D

Louis: Thanks - I am getting braver with the freehand stuff - give it a try, it is worth it....

furioso-prime: Thanks. The metal accents on the backpack helps to break up the green and the shield on the shield needs a little tidying up. Age sneaks up on all of us. Time for my rejuve-treatment ;)

Stobz: Sempers soul is well worth saving - ++must keep painting++

Isiah: Thanks for the kind words but: I can see the errors on the Plasma gunner and Apothecary with wobbly-hand syndrome in the close-up photos that MUST be corrected before I will be happy with them. This will all improve when my first pair of glasses turn up next week (sign of my age and I might be able to see properly then!) B)

Picked up my glasses yesterday - by the Emperor, I can see!!!

The first 5 Veterans are just about finished, some small details and tidying up to do. The Apothecary was a bit of a bugger as the white just did not want to co-operate but I think it is playing along now.

Already started on the arms/weapons of the next 5 - should be on plan to complete my input to the ETL by the end of July then I will be taking a well deserved holiday :D

Sorry Captain S. but no Vow Part 5 from me - run out of time for the models I have left ^_^

Fantastic models! Great freehand indeed. I was also wondering what sort of sheen they have on? It kinda looks like they have a semi-gloss varnish on or is that the camerawork?

Also, wanted to add that I love how you do the backpacks. It's a nice change of GREEN ERREWHERE without being overly shiny.

No varnish was used and the paint is Standard GW green which does look a little shiney :cuss

I think it is a good idea to break up all that green and used Tin bits and Boltgun with a black wash on the backpacks.
