Black Like My Soul

It's actually a corner edge, the armor plates on the tail fold there, that has been highlighted by a drybrush and overly accentuated by the camera flash. The mold join doesn't run along the sides of the tail, but rather along the top and bottom - as it would have to given the way the bit used - a mauler tentacle - bends.

Thanks.

I got a bit more work done today.  Should actually be finishing up the body tomorrow, only four days later than I had hoped.  I also haven't started the ectocannons yet.  I should still finish in time for the various painting pledges, but between finishing later than I hoped and going out of town for a week and a half in july, things are looking pretty bad for that second ETL vow.  Eh, we'll see.

In the mean time, the gold's done.  The steel and skin are highlighted, but those highlights took them a bit brighter than maybe I was aiming for, so they might get washed a bit back down.  Some of the steel spikes are now bone spikes, which still need some final highlights.  Also need some more work on the hide/ropes/fur/straps jumble on it's back, and picking out the rivots with dots of black wash then silver, and a little bit of touch up work here and there on the black armor plates, and maybe I'll do some black smokey grime/stippling around the openings of the brass pipes?

The main thing left, though, is edge highlights on the black armor plates.  Which I really, really need to not go overboard on, as it's already looking pretty decent, and I don't want to mess up the balance between the black and the gold.  Still, it can't go completely without, so... wish me luck.  I'll be heading into the store tomorrow to buy a new detail brush specifically for that endeavor.

Anyway, here's the body as things currently stand:

I just need to stay focused.  When a model's this close to done, but there's still a bunch of nitty little detail steps left, I can get fidgety and impatient, which is exactly the wrong thing to be when all of the remaining steps require particular care.

Work starts on the ectocannons tomorrow afternoon.  I've got some actual work to do this evening.

Basecoat's done on the ectocannons.  Vaguely on track for finishing this weekend.

I'm out of painting noise - I had been running Bob's Burgers in the background, but I'm all caught up at this point.  Anyone have any suggestions for a new show?  Has to be relatively entertaining on the dialog alone, and I'm not a fan of most (or any) network sitcoms; least not the live action ones.

Personally I can't watch a show and paint, but I have been listening to the independent characters podcast. Might be to your taste, might not.

But for me it has made stripping paint off heaps of infantry a lot more enjoyable.

Fiend's Done.

Well, kinda sorta. My sealer has either gone bad, or its just too humid out, because it dusted up something fierce on the body, and I just finished spending an hour fixing it as best I could - so the cannons need sealer, and the body needs to be re-sealed, and I may or may not do some gloss varnish on the plasma coils after the sealing is done? Also, I think the magnets I used are a bit too strong, and there's some serious risk of the paint chipping or damaging around where the bits fit together. As such, I'm probably going to buy some black construction paper and cut out some circles to glue on as padding.

But even so, I'm still calling it done enough to satisfy my ETL vow. I'll spend some time tomorrow coming up with some fluff and, if I can find the time, take a better picture or two, for the Daemon Pact thing.

Anyway, pictures:

Love it, love it, love it. Well done mate. And might I suggest the varnishes from the vallejo range? GW purity seal vacuüms testicles.

On the show: i'd say big bang theory. Most of the joke's are language based, so you'll get them even though you don't see body language or facial expression. I painted about 5000 points with that show's 140 episodes on the background!

I do not like Big Bang Theory.

Otherwise, thanks. My local store recently started carrying some vallejo stuff, including a few paint on varnishes. Maybe I'll try them.

Thanks!  That means a lot coming from you.

It feels good to actually finish something.  I haven't actually pulled that off in a while.  July's kind of busy for me, I don't know if I'll get much painting in, but hopefully I should be able to get something done, and then I'll have most of August before classes start up again.

Just copying over the contents of my second vow from the ETL thread. This one's a bit more ambitious than last time around, although there's far less trim and fidgety detail on any of these models than there was on the forgefiend. Honestly, it almost feels like I'm cheating. I mean, theoretically I should be working on my chosen, but each and every one of them will probably end up taking more time than either of these characters, possibly even both together. The plague reaper's a bit more involved, but mostly because of it's size. Without pointy chaos trim, it feels much less daunting going into it than the fiend did.

We'll see how I feel a few weeks down the line.

Also, a pic of my forgefiend, chaos lord, and chaos marines fighting together against some Cadians from the daemon pact thread:
