IF Siegebreakers

Well folks, after making a vow on the IF Expansion 2 to paint a 5-man squad of Termiantors and a 5-man squad of Mk.V Sternguard, I thought I'd better start a WIP thread which I will (hopefully) keep updated regularly.

Anyway, on to the pics. Please forgive the brightness of the yellow - the flash has made it look a lot brighter then it actually is (it's been raining all day so can't take pics outside either). I had the strange idea to use hazard stripes as company markings - which leaves me nowhere to put the Chapter badge................

I need to tidy up the hazard stripes. Not sure if I should keep them black & white or to go black & red.

As usual, any C&C is welcome.

I'm not liking the hazard stripes, they just strike me as oddly out of place. Except perhaps on the chainfist.

Other than that the yellow looks good, I also like the cingulum on the Sergeant and the bases look good too.

I like the yellow you have got there to start, but I must admit I am not sold on the hazard stripes. Maybe they will take shape when the models are more complete, but for me personally, they seem a little out of place on an Imperial Fist. Still, liking the progress so far and your bases look good. Good luck!

Yeah, I've had these sitting on my desk with the hazard stripes for the past couple of days - and they really are not growing on me at all. They seemed like a good idea at the time, but just don't look right.

Back to the drawing board on this one I think. I'll be breaking out the black to go over the stripes I think.............

Honestly I like the Hazard stripes. They break up the yellow quite nicely and create a good contrast in pattern. If you are wondering where you are going to put the chapter symbol, I would just place it over the stripes with a black ring around it (keeping the traditional white circle behind it) that way the symbol is superimposed over the stripes.

Just my two cents... Cant wait to see em finished either way.

Also been working on the Sternguard squad for my vow. Heres a quick update of the Sternguard I've got done so far - complete with Captain Antonus in Mk.IV warplate wielding his halberd named "Siegebreaker"

The flamer won't be staying - it will be swapped out for a combi-flamer at some point. The squad is going to end up a lot larger than the original 5 I intended - probably closer to 10. I want to add in some more bionics and 2 Marines wielding heavy flamers too.

Look fantastic mate. Good call on the stripes too. If you don't like em when you're done you can always change em. But if you do it now you'll never know what they may have looked like.

Really looking forward to seeing that captain with a lick of paint on him.

Yeah, its hard to tell about those stripes till you have the rest of the model to compare to. Least this way you can see if it is too much, or just right :)

I like the Sterguard squad. It's much cheaper method than I used and still looks cool!

Well one of my heavy flamers arrived today so I should be able to add Marine number 6 to the squad soon!

Hopefully the other will get here over the next day or two so my Siegebreakers can deal out some hot flamey death

I decided to swap the Marine with a flamer for a combi-melta built from a Phobos pattern bolter and a meltagun. I've also built the first of 2 heavy flamer Marines using a Terminator HF rather than buying the new SG weapons set.

Just got to drill out the meltas barrel..........

Excellent start Brother!

I think part of the challenge with the hazard stripes is that they stand out a tad too much and are detracting from the overall image. It seems like there are a couple of things you could do:

1. Tone down the white and use a light grey. This will soften the contrast with the black stripe

or,

2. What I think I would do is your other proposal, which is red stripes. Now they should not be a bright red, more of a dark red, like the <Khorne red base color>, but I think that just might work.

In either case, the stripes are distinctive and not bad. Just very different.

Cheers,

I was thinking red as it seems to be the IF detail colour (shoulder pauldron rims, chest eagles etc) so should work as a hazard stripe. I've still got some of the Mechrite red (don't know what the new replacement is) so I'll use that as a base.

Havn't done much painting recently - but I have gotten around to converting a Master of the Forge. There are bits from a multitude of sources used in creating him - one or two of which are now OOP.

P.S - please ignore the Romans in the background. Due to the meddling of Celtic druids, they got transported to the 41st millenium

The head is one from my bits box - I'm not sure, but I think it's possibly from Maxmini. The cables are indeed guitar strings - I bought a load from my local music shop for about £5.

Both the Sternguard and Termies are still very WIP. The Sternguard have been basecoated and had the first layer of sepia wash added. The Termies are still waiting for me to change the colour of the hazard stripes.

I was waiting on some bits to arrive for the Sterguard and so they have taken longer than expected.

Just a quick update - I've changed the colour of the hazard stripes on the termies and I think they look a lot better. Also toned down the brightness of the yellow a bit, added some battledamage and changed the colour of the sargeants helmet.

I've been signed off sick from work for a couple of days, so hope to show these guys some more love and get them finished :(
