Death Guard-Rebuilding a Legion 11.01.19 - The Year Ahead!

Quick update - I've picked up another bad boy from eBay... I've removed the head and needs some work - but the intention is he'll hopefully be a passable Mortarion...

I thought it may be nice to also display him with his Daemon Prince brethren:

Note the cute Ultraforge one that I'm still undecided as to whether I'll want him on a plinth... probably magnets...

The one at the back is nearly finished (just the base to go!) - but the rest are still very WIP as seen. Some, barely touched!

Okay, and I totally couldn't resist showing you this either. Magnetised Forgefiend/Maulerfiend combo - just need to sort the head (magnets or pole, unsure which'll work best), magnetise the magma cutters, add on the leg/arm spikes, and a bit of work to the top (maybe a Tervigon spawning sack...) - and voila! Pretty stoked as it's the most extensive use of magnets that I've attempted (however easy they may be - just fiddly!) and seems to be going really well. The base makes it very heavy too, the benefit of real rocks!

Have a gander!

So, my first update for my two vows for the Call of Chaos - I've done little, huzzah!

The Heldrake, bought from a guy at my local club, still requires some assembly...

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/IMG-20131114-00548_zpse7cb42bb.jpg

The three Bikers are, at the least, sprayed. Tempted to add more to the vow and do a proper batch...!

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/IMG-20131114-00549_zpsecd29474.jpg

And we're off!

Word of advice: paint the Heldrake as it is there, then build it. The wings will be a lot easier to do, as you won't have the unwieldy other wing and body to contend with while holding it.

Dragonlover

Thanks Dragonlover - although, I learned that the hard way from my first one.... it's doable, just hard!

No worries. I wish I'd painted both mine on the sprue, at least for the trim. Ah well, we live and learn.

Also, that is an impressive collection of daemon princes.

Dragonlover

Aye, the worst part of it has to be the trim. Was a nightmare trying to get the brush I to crevices!

Cheers for the DO comments - if only they were as effective on the table as they used to be!

Okay - the Rhinos have been crying out to be finished, and so I've put some more work into them this evening. Using the new Typhus Corrosion, I've been able to do the vents (that have been bothering me!), in addition to picking out rivets and any other bits that need a bit more battle damage. I've left ones nearer the bottom, since they'll be covered up by weathering - and there's only so many rivets you want to paint over the course of seven Rhinos. I've removed a couple of erroneous moldlines from the marines in the pintle position, and covered that all up. Picked out a few details in and around the trophy racks, so now should have everything coloured from that front. One of the biggest changes is the start of the OSL, for both the main windows on the front and the headlamps too!

A few quick snaps from my mobile of how they're starting to shape up:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/IMG-20131122-00561_zps46fc1f1e.jpg

Finally, a close-up of some of the work that's been started:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/IMG-20131122-00562_zps49623d00.jpg

As aforementioned, the lower rivets left will be covered with mud and other damage - so I wasn't too fussed. Still need to do it on the two Land Raiders mind...

Biggest things left are the final wash, tiny last details on the marines, complete the OSL, finish the tracks before moving onto muddying and weathering further... and they'll be done. Easy right?!

Cheers for looking!

Thanks bud!

One of the next projects is actually do something with my Forgeworld stuff, as it's been on the back burner for along time. First up, Havocs!

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/Havocs_zps3553b5fe.jpg

Right, ages and ages ago... I started this!

But now, I've actually cleaned them, put them together and greenstuffed the little problem gaps etc. so they look pretty cohesive over all, and I'm happy! There are a couple of tiny bits to finish off (as I'm out of liquid GS) - one or two mould lines that have been removed since the photos were taken, but overall, nearly ready to get basecoated. I actually decided against using alternative backpacks - although naturally, as I too had been warned, it's not a perfect fit onto the standard Space Marine backpack.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/IMG-20131210-00606_zpsde3d4951.jpg

The biggest problem was sorting this... now it's closer to a feed into the back than the bottom:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/IMG-20131210-00608_zpse85fcd80.jpg

But hopefully, they all look pretty reasonable together!

Really like the Rhinos 'the havocs look good.

Thanks DS! Looking forward to slapping some paint on them and getting them on the table - long overdue project!

Some nice work there, looking forward to seeing them in paint!

Cheers Kronus!

I'm working on a set of Havocs like that. Its a pain. Nice work on yours!

Have had friends who've done similar (in a more timely manner!) and used the Ork Burna backpacks, and they look superb. I'd bought the Maxmini ones for this purpose, but thought it best to try and adapt standard ones to avoid any issues with tournaments in future!

I've been busy tonight - I managed to get the following Plague Marines/Daemon Prince completely based - needed some bits filling etc:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/IMG-20131210-00612_zps2cac0641.jpg

And then, FINALLY built these bad boys:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/IMG-20131210-00615_zpsb5dc526e.jpg

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/IMG-20131210-00616_zpsaf7a7bf1.jpg

Bases need a tiny bit of tidying - but they're such awesome models, so happy to have got round to building them! Only thing I've not added is the Meltabombs - just so as not to obscure part of the model whilst painting. Alas, it's pretty misty today - so doubt I'll be able to get these sprayed.

Thanks mate - I think they're quality. Can't believe it's taken this long to get round to my Forgeworld stuff. Fear probably  XD

Have now fully prepped two sets of this, including scenic bases, for the building pile:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/IMG-20131213-00622_zps5f4737c5.jpg

And that building pile is slowly become the built... I had just a few minutes, but put this lot together!

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/IMG-20131218-00631_zps6de5bffc.jpg

They look surprisingly tall - I think the bodies just look elongated, but I think they're absolutely class. I'd love a section of just these bad boys to be fair. I then thought it would be a good idea to do a few Aspiring Champions straight out with the obvious selection of weapons. I've tried to make sure there's a palpable sense of movement behind them with their positioning in some cases, and I hope that this comes across even at this early stage, or alternatively - are posed deliberately to look nothing like the majority of the rest of my army!

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/IMG-20131218-00632_zpsf6909e57.jpg

Hopefully, I can get the rest of the arms fitted in time, as I really need to spray and paint my Heldrake...

Sadly, some of the torsos do not have a perfectly snug fit on the legs - which means that there'll inevitably have to be a small amount of filler work done, but I'll probably leave this until later on. There's a few instances of this where the feet aren't perfectly flush on the scenic base either - so I can tidy that up at the same time.

Thanks for looking!

My goal of ploughing through them has finally paid off! I've now completed the last few details, and so have therefore completed three of my vows.

My whole WIP shots:

And now... Huzzah! All finished! I've gone in order, systematically, through each squad of three:

And a lovely group shot of the happy family:

Now I only have my Heldrake to do - but I'm really tempted to up my vow to a nice round five...

Now, I needed to get two Heldrakes finished for today... and with no shortage of blood, sweat, tears, etc. - they were finished! I've now completed all five of my vows for the Call of Chaos VI - and that sense of immense pride is showing on my face somewhat now.  With two wings falling off (one each...) - and requiring re-pinning, made this slightly more arduous - but I think they look pretty cohesive!

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/IMG-20140115-00736_zpsf311b394.jpg

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/IMG-20140115-00737_zps93c73f4c.jpg

And... is that... a Fear Squadron I can now spy?!

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/IMG-20140115-00738_zpsfbc1c024.jpg

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/IMG-20140115-00739_zps8dbbd126.jpg

Hope you like them! Painting the trim has been killer... but, they're done, my Call of Chaos is complete - and I'm happy! Phew! Now just seven Rhinos and two Land Raiders to finish...  :tongue.:
