Death Guard-Rebuilding a Legion 11.01.19 - The Year Ahead!

I love the fiends, how did you make them?

I wish I could tell you accurately as I didn't make them myself, bar adding arms! However, visually, I'm pretty certain it's the use of the Tyranid Ravener Brood bodies, with Daemonettes on the top - which works really well visually. I bought them second-hand, because I loved them - and added the Tyranid claws (which is how they'd normally look) to the lower half of their bodies to make them more lethal. What can I say? I really think it works!

Anyway, here's where I am currently at after yesterday's work!

Starter with a Rhinox Hide base, getting in everywhere fleshy:

Proceeded to then drybrush Averland Sunset -trying get that tone and depth between the recessed areas, and make it look similar to elephant skin, wherever possible:

Then, started to pick out all the flesh disturbances in Screaming Skull:

And all three had that done:

Three FW GUOs...? You madman! XD

I had to do something excessive to tempt you back...!

I honestly might call them a grove or orchard.

As good a collective noun as any!

A Gurgle of Nurgle??

Oh I love this!

Works better than Burgle and most other letter swaps too...

My thanks gents - really do appreciate it.

Just a little WIP of something slightly different:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/Fiend1_zps2fcf96d3.jpg

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/Fiend2_zpse121ce0a.jpg

Getting there - few things to pick out and finish, some of the highlights (two layers) are washed out in the photos, so I may go one brighter. Quite happy all told though!

Since then, I've ploughed through a few things, first - Obliterators:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/OblitsProgress_zps29298558.jpg

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/OblitsWash_zpsebf877cc.jpg

And then that bulk batch of Plague Marines:

Blocked colours:

With flesh and weapons done:

Now onto basing and tidying the white, before washing...

WOW that is alot !!!! Calling for an Orbital Bombardment NOW!!!!

Bring it :P I instead deployed an Orbital Bombardment of ink... This was the result:

B5lIkcXIgAEOq_Y.jpg

Ploughed through: inked/washed and finished basing near enough. Tidied up anything that that didn't cover. What's left? Eyes! Sinister glow to come tomorrow. I did a few extra (three) for good luck (okay, I miscounted...) as well as a Nurgle Lord and good progress on Kranon too. Productive!

Just need final spot checks on the Obliterators and the Fiends, maybe a tiny bit more on their respective bases, before basing all three Great Unclean Ones, and I'm done! Will then have nailed approximately 3,000 points in no time at all!

All complete! Took a bit longer than I'd hoped - but I wanted them to be done well and right! Excuse the tone of the photos, lighting in the room was bad so increased the contrast - hope it shows them off better?

Anyway, here's one of everything:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/CallofChaos_zps0063d270.jpg

A nice side view:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/CoCSide_zps356e87b9.jpg

The 'big guns':

The right side:

The left side:

Phew! Quite an effort - really pleased generally as the vast majority of the Plague Marines were salvage jobs, hence why there is some discolouration in places. Overall, a new lease of life - so I'm pretty delighted I've rescued them for the army. Very proud of the GuOs too - they are really, really neat. Cheers for all the comments and criticism - really appreciate it and it has definitely helped and driven me on as ever to do these justice - I just hope that I have...

Massive thanks to Semper for running this, as ever, hero. You can never get enough praise for the sterling job you do! Well done everyone who has contributed, either in support, vows or pledges, and that just leaves but one more thing to say...

...bring on the ETL.

Well done. Really like the Big Boys in the back.

Beautiful work :ohmy.:

Thanks gents - really appreciate it!

Post-Call, I've been doing a bit more detailing on my Imperial Knight to make it look more like a Legio Mortis engine...

Ladies and gents...

We have a Warhound!

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/Warhound_zps1e41f9d6.jpg

Obviously, colours are going to change to bring it into line with the Legio Mortis - reborn in the forges of Mars!

I'm wondering whether to keep it 'classic' or not, mine however stands significantly straighter. As it's had an updated Plasma Blastgun, I'm wondering if ablative plating up the thigh might help to both bulk and protect the model from looking too spindly. Any thoughts?

So after not posting in this thread for awhile... a photodump of the last couple of months!

I entered the following for the Daemonic Pact and was lucky enough to be awarded Artisan of Chaos for one of my three Great Unclean Ones:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/GuOFront_zpsd9a57b33.jpg

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/GuOBack_zps23885d70.jpg

I then painted Ahriman for the Daemon Forge as I needed someone to offer a bit of sorcerous consultancy to the Legion:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/IMG_2806_zps5ozhxo7z.jpg

Kilofix's generous reward for the victorious generals of the ETL III was a Praetor to commemorate our glorious victory. Here's the first of many to come, the Praetor with an honour guard of his fellow commanders and Terminator retinues just to show him off:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/LegionTerminators_zpsgx65qfs7.jpg

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/CloseLegionTerm_zpsnzdbzni6.jpg

And then for this month's Daemon Forge, I've completed Vrosh Tattersoul:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/VroshBack_zpsxxrgh3dk.jpg

Couple of photos as I transfer my stuff into cases...Inevitably, more to do - but getting there slowly but surely :smile.:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c254/TheNewAgeOutlaw/GW/PrideoftheLegion_zpsq5znqpej.jpg

Filling them up is great fun - shows what you have at a glance. I thought buying a load would make it easier, but there are always things that don't conform size wise... More will be needed!

Hopefully soon I will have a bit more time to dedicate to bigger projects... But this charts the last couple of months for me. Looking forward to the ETL already!
