1500 Dark Angels

Praeter- ditigal weapons, artificer armor, iron halo, paragon blade; pride of legion

Consul- lvl 3 librarian, artificer armor, refractor field

vet squad: 2 melta, rhino, sarge with artificer and powerfist

vet squad: 2 plasma, rhino, sarge with artificer and powerfist

vet squad: 2 ml with flak; sarge with artificer and powerfist

Assuming 1500 ish points; what to round out with?

Spartan- good LC shots, big tough tank

Storm Eagle- cool flyer, costly

Contemptor- cool grownup dreadnought

two predators would be the cheap/effective choice.

I would like to use something that can used in both 30k and 40k.

Thoughts?

Unless you want these squads to get stuck in, what's the point of artificer armor on the Sarges? And if you do intend them to get stuck in, where are the power weapons?

Maybe compromise and switch out Powerfists for some Power weapons on forward going squads? I like Artificer because you can stick him at the front and try and soak up some wounds. In that role, I'd drop the PF.

I think I vote the Spartan. It is a tough nut to crack, but also will provide some Lascannon shooting for long-range firepower.

Alternatively, maybe take the two Predators and add a Legion Artillery Detachment with two Medusas. That will give you some scary S10 shooting.

I actually have a very similar list, with Loken (who's basically the named character version of what you took), but at 2000 points. The Apothecary really helps. At first I tried 20 man Tacs, but I think the Veterans are more killy (because you can take more power weapons).

Especially in Heresy vs. Heresy; the first game I played we crashed two 20-man Tac squads with Apothecaries into each other. I think 3 died that first round. It was highly anti-climactic. :)

Ending adding a contemptor and predator to the list.

Hysterically, my opponent took two walkers as well (maulerfiends)... and all three walkers died to overwatch fire, with in one player turn of each other.

Bad day to be a walker!

The vets worked well. The plasma squad popped a mauler fiend on overwatch, and wiped out some bikes via shooting.

The ML was on foot, and ended up being the libririan and praeter escort. Ended up with the Sarge from that unit and one marine contesting the objective for a tie.

Vets are expensive, but quite nice. I would like to experiment with a pair of legion tactical squads... but that might be a few months before I can afford another 20 FW marines!

Need to play with the contemptor more to see if I will get one. I like the model, but three HP is not that survivable... AV13 is nice.

They've been pretty reliable for me, except when they draw attention as the most dangerous thing on the table. Usually they survive to make their points back, but once in a lower points game one was popped on the first turn by a Conversion Beamer and exploded 7". Darn.
