Ultramarines 1st Company project

UltraRich

Recommended Posts

Ive just got the two FW apothecary minis and Ive started on them for my Ultra chapter.

After giving them an airbrushed base and first highlight I started on the first one and to introduce some blue Ive painted the tabard blue.

Im not sure though as I think this may be too dark.

Ive done a google search but there are very few painted FW Apothecary minis out there.

Let me know what you think (Im going to paint the chest skull red too.)

If you have this mini feel free to post it too.

Thanks

I think he looks awesome so far. just tighten up the white and your good to go. the shadows might be a little too big. if it helps, put a super thin "sausage" of blue-tac where you want the shadows to be, It works incredibly well. you can even put blue-tac over what you have already painted. I used to do it when I used an AB. great job!

Thanks The_Chaplain

Its pretty simple

  • Black undercoat
  • BathasarGold base coat (thin)
  • Devlin Mud wash (thinned)
  • Shining gold highlights
  • Shining gold / Mithral silver mix 70/30
  • Nuln oil wash in the darkest cracks (where one wing overlaps the next)
  • Seraphinm Sepia wash all over (thinned)
  • Final Shining gold / mithral silver mix 50/50 for the absolute edge highlights

Ive started work on the captains sword arm and jumped straight into the sword.

Only thing is I dont know if it looks like hes ready for action or if it takes too much away from the model and I should have done it "switched off"

What do you think?

Very nice 1st Company Rich. The skin tone on the Captain is top notch and the rest is damn good too. The only thing i'm not keen on is the chipping on the Apothecaries left leg, The two scratches just don't sit right for some reason.

thanks, Im following your work on the banner too, Ive got one to do for the 1st company so Im watching your technique.

What with you me and Rogan WIPs starting to look like Ultramarine central!

Which leg do you mean on the apotecary? the one up on the rock?

Nope, not the one on the rock. His left leg, or from our perspective the right leg. There's two scratches on the armour - I don't know if it's because to top scratch curls up or not, but they just don't quite sit right with the rest of the battle damage (which looks good btw). I can't quite put my finger on what it is that's causing me to think that though.

And nothing wrong with it being Ultramarine central :). I think there's actually 5 UM WIPs floating around the front page atm - i've never seen that many.
