Very impressive!  One of these years, I'll get everything completely painted and put together like that for the camera.  ;)

Laeroth, I think you are the Yoda of the BT forum. I demand you start speaking backwards! :P

Nicely done Urkh. Hope this inspires others to post full army shots, or at least the what we have painted so far full army shots. :) I'll have to work on getting one done myself.

Ty for the kind word Laeroth and Mystech. I'm currently now in a bit of a modeling lull as i'm waiting for the new codex to hit so i know how to legally model my men so I'm not pulling arms off in two weeks. However, I'm using this period to build/paint the rhino the came in my battleforce (with the sexy BT upgrade doors, of course), so be looking for that in the days to come!

So, in my post where I introduced you guys to Carneus Malgar, I hinted at what I was planning to be in the fluff for my crusade. Before that, I had determined that since Space Marines in general use weather-type names for their weapons/vehicels, and thus decided to name my crusade in reflection of that. I looked up what "weather" translates to in Latin, and it was "Tempestas". So I decided on the Tempestas crusade.

I then went to look at the 40k star-map in the back of our codex, and noticed that there was a Segmentum Tempestus, and instantly decided that that's where my crusade was going to be located. I read up a bit on Segmentum Tempestus, and found that it's plagued more by xenos raids than by chaos, which fits my "meta", being necrons, tyranids, and tau (up and coming, and are currently allying with his grey knights, who he plans on scrapping once he has enough tau). My dilemma then becomes how to accurately portray them in the fluff of my crusade.

My solution was to create the Tempestas Meta Crusade. This is a crusade that is comprised of multiple crusades happening throughout the segmentum at the same time, lead by the same guy, all with the same goal: kill all the xenos.. The segmentum gets separated into 3 zones, Hurricane (east), Monsoon (west), Blizzard (Central). Each zone will be lead by a Marshal who in turn commands his castellans throughout the multiple crusades throughout his zone. In turn, the Marshals will take orders from a Marshal Lord, who gets instructions from Helbrecht himself, giving the crusade a cohesiveness.

By doing this, I can allow myself to create different stories for each of the people I play against, and not try to come up with one story conglomerating them all together. Since they probably don't even care about the fluff of my crusade, I can keep track of things as a sort of a campaign that only I know about, and track the progress the Tempestas Meta Crusade is making throughout ST. I could even do something where I roll dice to see what zone and what castellan i'm using to determine the kind of list I'm going to run when I get the model variety to do such a thing.

Let me know what you guys think. I definitely think I'm going to have some great modeling opportunities making the different Marshals and the Marshal Lord, as well as all their Castellans.

Note: Yes I know that the Tau Empire is in Ultima Segmentum, and not part that's close to Segmentum Tempestas. ATM, I'm just saying they're a large Tau Expeditionary force that was engulfed in a warp storm and came out in Segmentum Tempestas. This isn't the final draft of their story on how they came to be in ST, as I feel it's a cop out.

It's pretty original, I like it. And it makes me want to grab a pen and start writing down some drafts of fluff for my own Crusade. Anyway, I do like the origin of the name, makes it a tad more awesome than "The-'random system-'Crusade". The basics are pretty good, I think it'll get better once the story gets fleshed out a bit.

In the "High Marshal Helbrecht page, I mentioned that I was stripping my Helbrecht's old paint job and giving him a new one. Well, here it is.

Well, I'm starting the long trek of making an Honor guard for Helbrecht or whatever other guy I decide to be a chapter master. This is the first model in the line

I'm thinking this project is going to take me a while, as other than the official sword brethren models that i'm going to make into honor guard as well, I'm being very picky about the bitz that I'm using for these guys.

Off to a good start on the honor guard. Have you taken a look at the new vanguard/sternguard/tactical boxes brother? They offer a wealth of bits suitable to the task for honor guard.

Yes, i've looked at them. I'm just a bit monetarily challenged atm when it comes to buying new models, so i'm working with what i have. I already need to buy another BT upgrade sprue i think...

TY, the reason I've made blue as the defacto color for my power weapons now is that blue is absent from the rest of my army otherwise. It makes it easy to see who the guys with power weapons are.

Children are not the future, Neophytes are!

Close combat neophytes set 1

Close combat neophytes set 2

Bolter Neophytes

With this, I now have 20 CCW/BP neophytes and 5 bolter neophytes. Black Tide is closer and closer!

As you can see, with the CCW neophytes, i stuck with the same theme as my last 10 CCW neophytes, but for the bolter ones, I decided to switch it up and go with black shoulder pads and white cloth sleeves. I feel this gives distinction to the shooty and the combat neophytes, but I also just wanted to see which one I liked better. What do you guys think?

Pretty good job all around, though they still need iconography.  Even the noobs deserve a cross on their shoulder ;)

I have a bunch of these to paint in the immediate future, too...*shudder*  I hate painting cloth.

Also, that's a cod piece, not just an 'extension' of the pants.  Painting it the same color as the pants makes that odd little feature even more...well, I would just paint it black, that's all. :teehee:

Not bad, not bad at all. However I am reminded why I dislike the standard neophyte heads so much. But that's neither here nor there.

I must say I really like your take on the neophyte uniform. Really looks like quite spiffy witht the white cloth and black armor bits. As esteemed fellow battle brother Firepower pointed out, the codpiece is a cogpice, thus ought to be black. Mmm... think im gonna have to make some bolter neophytes myself now that we have the options.. after I find more replacement heads.

Loving the updated Helbrecht, it's fantastic to see how you have developed your skills since your first version! Also I can't wait to see what you do with the air support, I already admired the striking look of the speeders.

TY Marshal Mattias! You can also look a little farther back in the thread to see two of the AoBR marshals I painted, one around the time I my first Helbrecht, and another maybe half a year ago. I consider Helbrecht to be my best painted mini so far, followed by that marshal. As for the air support, I've started painting the raven (have the wings done!) and have started on one talon, but it really only has the basecoats done. I've been really busy with my work, and haven't had as much time to paint as I normally would. However, The color schemes I used on my speeders (and all of my vehicles) are also being used on these fliers, so you shouldn't be disappointed!

In other news, for christmas I got an Ironclad Dreadnought and a Vanguard Veteran Squad. The dread is put together, and the vanguard kit is being used to make Sword Brethren for my Crusader Squads, and putting fancy weapons and storm shields on other models.

not to mention the 40 crusaders, Grimaldus and retinue, and the actual sword brethren that are sitting on my table right now. A lot to paint up!

It has been a while since battle was last done, and a while may be before my templars leave warp space and confront the xenos and heretics that await them at their next destination. However, the armor of the Tempestas Crusade continues to grow as we receive new tools of retribution against the storm of evil that approaches. Enter the Storm Raven

Will be using masking tape to get at least 4 maltese crosses on it in the near future.

Brilliant. Just one question - why didn't you want to paint the interior of the cockpit? Just curious, because I also decided to forfeit all the interior detail in my scratch-built raven.
