I put (as much as I could cram onto the board -had to leave one Russ off-) Kierdale’s Shrineworld regiment into GW Takadanobabas Armies on Parade (entries accepted from last Saturday).

A Russ, a Medusa, two Chimera, Command squads, enginseer, sniper SWS, mortar squad, roughriders, veterans, infantry squads, a couple of priests and commissars, primaris psykers, psyker battle squad, and beast men penitents!

Here are some quick photos:

The plane isn’t on the flying stand here as the main tables were being used (store is tiny!) so it was just on a shelf in the meantime.

And some close-ups I took at home beforehand (in these I had forgotten to add the 54mm Navigator statue back-left, but did remember to add it at the store).

21 penitents

The Martlet (counts as Lightning)

I don’t know how well they’ll do -IG aren’t the flashiest, most attention-grabbing of armies- but I think I put on a good show. :)

When I get them back home I really must take some good unit-by-unit photos for a Hall of Honour thread.

A fine army. From the flyer's base, I deduce you're a 'Top Gun' or Kenny Loggins fan.

Well, I thought making an actual highway to the danger zone was the best base for a fighter jet :D

Glorious! Hopefully people see the true best army that is Guard ;)

I hope so!

We’ll see what other armies are entered today!

Next year I really must try to not fill the board...

2012 Golden Daemon Japan - Bronze 40k squad

2017 AoP Best Scenario Board

2018 AoP Best 40k Painting

...and a few store painting comp wins over the years.

I’ll take what awards I can get!

Next year’s AoP is supposed to be Mentors vs GSC...but I’m really into Greenskins right now. If that lasts until next summer then ETL and AoP2019 might be Snakebites vs Necrons.

Blowing the dust off this army thread as I have a question:

What of the army is still in the codex (or otherwise ‘legal’) as of 10th Edition?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Well the infantry are all fine if you can move them around from Squad to Squad as you can't have 4 of any weapon in a command Squad anymore I believe.

Command squads are now 1 commander plus 4 veterens, no 2 veterens can have the same special weapon.

Special weapon squads don't exist anymore but you can use snipers in an infantry squad or command Squad.

The master of Ordnance and astropath are now fielded as a single unit with the officer of the fleet.

Wyrdvane psykers are gone, it's just the above mentioned astropaths and primaris psykers now.

Veteren squads are gone as are conscripts, you can use the infantry as regular dudes.

The rest is all legal that I know of.

If they are Legends you can still use them, just not in tournaments. Very few people are going to walk away from a game because you have legends. I use them all the time with my marines who arguably got hit much harder by the Legends hammer.

As said, command squads are more limited but not at the same time. You get one special weapon of each type. Just take melta, plasma and a sniper with a medic and attach the squad to an infantry squad. You have four types of infantry squads. Regular squads with one special weapon and a heavy weapon, catachan who get scout and something else, Death Korp who get a vox guy who brings back dead dudes, a plasma and grenade launcher and a melta gun and they get better once they get below full strength. I forget what cadians get but I think its just extra special weapons. The key is you can double them up to 20 guys and get the equivalent of 2 squads for one choice and then attach a command squad on top of that for 25 dudes with 9 special weapons(I use Krieg) with a feel no pain, bring d3 dudes back, and some decent shooting ability. Then you have a 2 CP strat to get a dead choice back from strategic reserves so 20 of them are coming back from a board edge.

Hydras are pretty nice, wyverns are useless.

A basilisk is pretty option over the medusa. Its cheap, slows the opponent down, and might kill a dude or two.
