Ressurecting this thread - I think you may guess why.....

This is the excuse I was waiting for - Can't wait for 1st Nov msn-wink.gif

It seems like the GW datasheet has vanished... good thing I downloaded it!

Don't panic SG - I have not vowed yet...

Landraider Ares

I have the LR Crusader kit, Vindicator kit and some extra armour from FW to play with.

I was just thinking magnety thoughts....

Perhaps a LR Redeemer/Crusader/Ares for all occasions smile.png

A la my DW Redeemer/Crusader but with an added bonus.

Shame I don't have the las sprue too.

Edit: Just reading the previous posts and I can't believe that the boxes have been sat around for nearly a year - I have a painting queue from hell. More challenges please!

For the Lion and the Legion!

This week I will be mainly cleaning up, de-spruing and fitting magnets. I will have to give some serious thought on how I switch between the assault ramp and Vindicator glacis plate but I think I have an idea.

The Ares is a fun build. I used the spaced armour from FW for mine. I hope it becomes a model for regular 40k, I never really understood why a demolisher cannon would make a Land Raider an apoc-only unit geek.gif

Here where I am at after the first couple of hours...

The inner chassis has been glued together and the lip on either side where the assault ramp fits against has been trimmed

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/IMAG0025_zps010506e3.jpg

The Vindicator glacis plate has been glued together and trimmed down to almost slot into the nose section. It just needs final fine tuning tomorrow when the glue is fully set. I have also glued a plate of plasticard across the drivers window as it is not required and fitted an icon to make it a little less bland. I will look tomorrow at if it is practicable to fix the dozer blade to this glacis plate so the whole unit can be swapped as one piece. The lower section will be made from the spare plastic upper assault ramp section and I will be working on that tomorrow.

The uper and lower halves of the assault ramp have been glued together using a piece of sprue as a support. This should allow it and the vindicator plate to slide in and out of the nose section and it will be held firm with magnets later. I trimmed the rods from either side and glued the cut off sections into the hull and this is where I am planning to fit the magnets later.

I have also started to glue the FW extra armour onto the sides but that is enough for tonight msn-wink.gif

I plan to work hard tonight to please my Brothers (plus I want it ready for spraying on the weekend!)

I smell a plan in the making ;)

I think being surrounded by magnets may be affecting my braaaiiin.....

So after the second evening of frantic activity at the Elmo workbench I managed to achieve the following....

I magnetised the 3 weapon options

Hurricane bolter

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/IMAG0032_zpsb514a445.jpg

Redeemer flamer

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/IMAG0027_BURST002_zps2107236a.jpg

and the twin linked heavy flamer where I added flamer tanks from the IG to make them a little more bulky and will be adding some guitar wire later

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/IMAG0036_zpsbee33123.jpg

Also the gun shields

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/IMAG0037_zps666ccf90.jpg

and the mounting stanchions

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/IMAG0033_zps4abf26ff.jpg

Trialling them on the vehicle resulted in a success rate of 66%

The Redeemer flamer droops so I will be adding an extra magnet at the rear tomorrow.

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/IMAG0047_zps55a134ff.jpg

I also used very thin plasticard to plate over the inside of the ramp rails to give the Ares glacis plate a clean finish

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/IMAG0039_zps70e0a66a.jpg

After sanding down the assault ramp and Ares glacis I found they fitted perfectly and I have not even used magnets yet :)

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/IMAG0043_zps601734d7.jpg

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/IMAG0044_zps2c9d2b67.jpg

And specially for Isiah

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/IMAG0042_zpsb8dd10b8.jpg

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/IMAG0041_zps8ffce127.jpg

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/IMAG0040_zpsd71df17e.jpg

Tomorrow I will be completing the weapon magnetisation and fitting magnets to the side doors so I can mount the weapons forward or to the rear. Also a bit of clean up and some minor greenstuffing.

The original plan was for an Ares/Redeemer/Crusader but I suppose that the end of the Demolisher cannon could be left unglued so it could be turned into an  Achilles and I do have spare multimeltas somewhere. I have a whirlwind so I could put the launcher on the top to make a Helios and I have spare heavy bolters so I could make a Prometheus but I want to stay on plan for now and not get carried away ;)

What I have not got is Lascannons.

As cool as it would be to have pictures of alllll the varients magnetized for one raider- it isnt as important as getting the overall build finished and readied for painting in my opinion. Besides, you can always magnetize the stuff like the prometheus heavy bolters and stuff later. Like you said, probably for the best not to get carried away.

I will see if time allows before the deadline in the spray shop to look at other sponson weapon options. If not it can be a job for later.

@SG: do I get 2 points for each version? ;)
