J-Smuv's LPC Vow

I, j-smuv of the Blood Angels, vow on the honour of my Chapter to paint and present at least a Storm Raven, a Baal Predator, 3 dead Lamenter Objective Markers, and a Captain on or before the 31st of March, 2013. I promise to provide at least two WIP updates, preferably with pictures, in that time. I vow that if I should fail, I will provide the Librarium with an article and wear the Signature of Shame until my penitence period is done.

This is my first attempt at painting an entire army.  These guys will add to some troops I've already completed.  It should be interesting. . .  I'm going with the army painter method.  I'm pretty pleased with how smooth the primer went on considering it's 37 F here in Baltimore.  The method seems to work on the troops very well, but on vehicles I have been less than impressed.  Anyone who has worked with the stuff in the past and can offer some tips to better address flat surfaces would be appreciated.

Here's the start of the Baal.  I'm gonna add some hood ornaments to this guy, but I figured I'd slap it together and paint the detail bits seperately.

Here's the start of the Storm Raven.  I have since decided to go with the MM/TLAC loadout, but this is a pic from earlier this month.

Ok, so double post in one night, but with the forums being down, I had taken the previous pictures and had been unable to post.  But this post should bring the thread up to speed with my progress.

Here's the progress on the Baal.  Added some hood ornaments/base coats. . .

Here's the progress on the Storm Raven.  Like I said. . . I'm not too impressed with the effect of the dip on the flat surfaces.  But I'm hoping I can smooth some of it out.  Help it look less muddy.

Here's the progress on the Captain.  Pretty much done.  Just need some touch-ups and a matte coat.

Here is the progress on the Objective Markers.  I figured Lamenters dead and dying was pretty appropriate.  As a guy I play with said "Lamenters could have a bake sale and half of the chapter would die."  Same as the captain.  Just need some touch-ups and a matte coat.

Ok, so I've completed my vow!

It's a little early, but I knocked out a lot of it during lunch at work.  I am saving money not going out to eat, and I'm getting my hobby done.  I even got two other guys at work painting during lunch too!

Sorry about the pics.  They're from my phone.  I can't find my camera.

Found my camera, fixed the pics. . .  (3/9/13)

Here's the raven.  I'm still not 100% satisfied with the way the wash turned out on it.  I'll play with if for now, but if it drives me crazy I'll strip it and start over.

The Baal turned out much better.  I learned from the Storm Raven and did the wash on the Baal in one sitting.  I kept a dry brush and paper towel handy to absorb excess wash.  Now, there are a few spots that aren't great, but I think my next vehicle should be pretty close to where I need to be.   I added the guy on top since I ended up with extra time to complete my vow.

The objective markers turned out great!  I can't wait to use them in our club's tournaments.  I have been meaning to get these together for a while.

I don't know when I'll use a Captain, but now I have one.

I've started work on some death company.  Hopefully I'll get them done soon.  I'll post them when I do.  I'm glad this challenge kick started my painting.  It really helped, because I had stalled out.  I'm going to try and keep it going!

I fixed the pics for the earlier post confirming vow completion.

In addition, I've started on those Death Company.  I only have three completed, but my goal is to have a unit of eight painted by my club's next tournament at the end of April.

I made a librarian to escort them too.  I've had this guy lying around for a while, so it was good to get some paint on him.  I didn't have any blue paint, so I used 4 coats of the old blue wash "Asurmen Blue".  I kinda like the effect. . . like pottery or faded denim.  So I kept it, and added some details.

I'll post the other death company when I get them done.  In addition, I'm working on a Reclusiarch and a Chaplain Dread (using the Furioso Librarian rules).
