wow, this was a really nice trip down memory lane! I really miss my "Order of the Argent Shroud" army. I would totally walk away from Marines for a while if the re-did the dex and put out some awesome new plasticrack!

 and I am an old-school gamer, I cut my teeth converting metal minis! hmmmm, maybe?

no prime, stay away from ebay!

I'm coming back to my Sisters after my gaming group took a break for the duration of 6th edition.  So far the girls are doing great, having chased off an Ulthwé Farseer and his Eldar warband, defended a relic from the army of a greedy Mechanicus Forge World, and burned a Tyranid assault swarm into ash so fine it'll be settling out of the atmosphere for years.

Like many of you, I'm a little tired of looking at the same metal miniatures after so long.  The pewter Sisters minis really aren't bad, but they are almost uniformly static.  So, after a long time of messing around with kitbashing, casting, and sculpting, I've got something I'm pretty happy with.  I'd like to share it with you and ask you what works, what doesn't, and what could be added.  Of course, I was a douche and didn't take any WIP pictures, so everything below is finished product only.

Here is a summary of what went into these girls:

Dark Eldar arms and legs (Duh, has anyone not considered using these for their plastic Sisters yet?)

A plastic resin cast of St Celestine's torso.  This has the dual advantages of being one of the best looking Sisters armors out there, and being easy to remove from the original miniature, as there are no pewter weapons welded to it.

Third-party female heads.  Lots of manufacturers sell head sprues.  Do a google search and find some that you like.

Sculpted skirts.  These are tissue paper and white glue.  They look pretty good for tissue paper and white glue.

Assorted 40K weapons.  Beg, borrow, or steal these from your gaming group.

A decent amount of cutting, shaving, and putty goes into making the parts work together, since Dark Eldar lack the awesome shoulderpads of the Sisterhood.

I'm loving this thread, all of your paint schemes and conversions look amazing. :biggrin.:

I'm currently in the process of starting up a sister army and I finished the test model a few days ago, I was going for the Order of the Bloody Rose but I decided against the white lining on the robes.

I do have to say that these are some nice models.... if I only had the patients for the hobby side of things.

Oh snap and Emperor damn me... I just realised I had some extra disposable money, and decided it was finally time to get a small sisters detachment... So I just ordered around 200€ worth of sisters. I'll have to start posting pics here once I actually get to painting them. But one thing I wanted to share. I noticed that the WHFB Bretonnian Damsel with Staff is a perfect model for making a Sister Famulous.

This is one of the schemes I'm considering for my own Sisters - this particular one the idea that their armor is designed to make them look like living flame or made of molten lava. Not sure what I'd do with their weapons just yet, though.

Thoughts? Ideas to improve?

Welcome to the very exclusive club that is the Faithful, Blackrat! Whatdidyoubuy?

I'd suggest making the orange a bit more vibrant and the yellow more orangey... probably a deeper red as well. I say 'I', but I have no clue so I asked my more artistic girlfriends. ^^;

I'd make the weaponry black, personally - you need a contrast colour that won't ruin the effect, and you get rocks in magma sometimes.

Thanks for the welcome. I got mainly Seraphims and Retributors but also a few others just for their coolness. And the Damsel with Staff. I like converting and painting models even if I can't use them in game. The sister famulous is for representing a character in a Dark Heresy game.

According to Wikipedia and several on-line color wheels, that is the digital color for lava. I agree that I think it's a little too bright, though. I think the dark lava trim and the white background make it look that way, though.

Here is another image with a darker shade of red. The eagle and the fleur are intentionally different colors to get feedback - go with the orange-yellow fleur or the yellow-orange aguila?

Also, welcome, Blackrat. Seraphim and Rets are a good start :)

Yeah, they're an eternal work in progress.  More robes would be a nice touch, and likely the next thing to work on.

In the meantime, here's an Exorcist kitbashed out of a Manticore missile launcher.

The hospitaller looks pretty grimy.  Not bad, especially if you've got a 'grim realism' scheme going for your army.

She wouldn't fit in with my girls, who spit shine their armor between firefights.  That's certainly not a strike against her though :P.   I'd like to see her in the rest of her unit.

What's with the Maned Wolves? I have to admit I don't much like that shade of green for Sisters, but it's your choice. ^^;

At the time when I was taking the pictures I was also working on my Space Wolf army of which has a Fox theme instead of a wolf theme and I had finished the wolves and cannoness around the same time.  As for the green it was a toss up between Dark Angles Green or a Blood Red color for the robes on grey armor with white shoulders and helm crest.  Ended up going with green because it's not something i've seen on SoB before and I just have a preference to green.  It was just diffrent from the usual red, black, white that is normally seen on SoB.

Though I should still try it with red robes as I have some SoB coming in from ebay.
