TheDevourer goes Nurgle - Last CoC Vow

Greetings servants of decay.

After much pondering I have decided to open up a thread to show the muster of my Chaos Space Marine nurgle army.

I have done something similar beforehand in the Space Wolves Forum for the Dark Angels "E Tenebrae Lux" painting challenge.

In which i painted up an army for an upcoming tournament.

The plan with this thread is to get more motivation to build up a 1000 point team tag tournament list that i will be playing with a friend as

soon as we are both finished. So far I have put together the following list which will be based on Typhus and zombies.

*************** 1 HQ ***************

Typhus
- - - > 230 Points

*************** 3 Troops ***************

18 Plague Zombies

- - - > 82 Points

10 Plague Zombies

10 Plague Zombies

*************** 2 Fast Attack ***************

Helldrake

- Flamer
- - - > 170 Points

3 Chaos Spawns

- Mark of Nurgle
- - - > 108 Points

*************** 3 Heavy Support ***************

5 Havocs

+ Upgrade to Champion
- Boltpistol
- Close Combat Weapon
- Bolter
- - - > 115 Points

5 Havocs
- 4 x Autocannons
+ Upgrade to Champion
- Boltpistol
- Close Combat Weapon
- Bolter
- - - > 115 Points

1 Obliterator
- Mark of Nurgle
- Veteranen of the Long War

- - - > 79 Points

Total Points Chaos Space Marines : 999

I have started buying models, but to be honest this project will probably take a while. Being a student I can´t afford to just go out and buy all

the models at once msn-wink.gif.

At the moment I have:

1 converted Typhus using the Chaos Lord Terminator Box.

14 Zombies by Mantic (A few Limb conversions/repositioning) --> 10 Painted

15 Chaos Space marine Bodies (10 of which for Havocs, still need to order Forgeworld autocannons)

And a warhammer fantasy zombie dragon which will be converted to a Helldrake once I order a flyer base.

As for pictures:

The only thing I can offer until the weekend is mobile phone pictures, I might be able to get some cam pics in when my dad gets back with the camera for the weekend, depending on how knackered I am after work.

Well that´s all I have to say for now. Hope you enjoy the thread and comments are more than welcome =). If you want to check out some of my previous work: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/252666-my-vow-for-e-tenebrae-lux/?do=findComment&comment=3065358

It doens`t really work all that well on its lonesome. But my teammate (Scag) will probably be creating a thread on here soonish aswell msn-wink.gif.

Paint scheme wise I will be painting them fairly basically up to a table top standard in time for a tournament in summer and then adding along to them as i go along.

I´d rather have a fully painted army that´s basic rather than a couple of undercoated models and a couple of painted ones msn-wink.gif.

Zombies: Trying to make them look fairly fresh for now. Earthy clothes and blood here and there.

Marines: Dark Green, with lighter green highlights. Pink/Purpley Puss boils etc. Rusty/Bronze looking weapons.

Drake: I have no idea so far. It´ll probably come to me while I´m building him^^

For the moment I´ve got a couple of decentish pictures, enjoy! smile.png

Just a short update on progress. I`ve nearly finished building Typhus. He`s still missing the horn on his helmet and the scythe blade. I`ve also started putting the

helldrake together. He will be getting more and more nurgle like as I go along. What are your thoughts to show he has a baleflamer? Was thinking of modelling a stream of vomit coming from its mouth. Will also make him seem a little more fleshy.

Will be ordering 30 more Zombies and 3 Spawn counts as this weekend.

Thats all for now! Here are some pics of my progress msn-wink.gif

Ok Order is officially out and will be coming on the 28th =).

I`ll finally have the much needed base for the heldrake, as well as Spawns and Nurglings.

Will be ordering more on Friday. The last few Zombies and forgeworld autocannons for the havocs.

Didn´t think I´d get the models together so quickly =)

Just a short question: I´ve been looking for obliterator models, but I´m not very fond of the Gamesworkshop models.

So It´s either i build my own or order a similar model from a different company. Has anyone got an idea if there are any options

available on the net? ;) If not I´ll have to see what my bits box can come up with.

After searching the web for the best part of 2 hours... Looks like I´ll have to get a box of chaos terminators and go from there.

@ Nurglez Thanks for the links! I quite like the Oblis in the second link, although they seem a bit over the top for my taste. Although Insane Psychopath´s ones look

really nice. Hm... I´ll have to give it all some thought.

Kind of stuck in building at the moment waiting for the nurglings to arrive so I can continue with the heldrake.

With a bit of luck I may finish the last Zombies today ;).

And I´ve managed to paint them in time! I present you my finished zombies. Well at least all the zombies I have at the moment msn-wink.gif

I´m happy with the way they look for the moment, but will most likely revisit the bases once I have completed all of them.

Aye I thought I'd give you a selection, as I quite like the ones in the second picture, but they have too much going on, but they still have a nice feel.

Zombies look nice and zombie like, which is good :D

Ok so Scag and I are going to have our first Team-Tag game tomorrow. I´m pretty excited (wonder how well we´ll do).

We will be playing against Necrons and Eldar.

The Necrons will be playing wraithes+Lord and a couple of scythes.

The Eldar player usually goes for MC spam. So will be seeing Avatar+2 Lords, aswell as harlequins with yriel is my guess. Back field will most likely be Rangers.

With this knowledge I can say that Scag and I will probably have difficulties with the ground force. Well at least with the MCs... Considering we only have S7 spam and 2 Oblits it could be difficult to take down the T8 Wraithlords. However the biggest threat will probably be the necron wraithes. I guess it will all come down to his saving rolls. If we manage to take them

out fast, then we will be able to win the skies with our Heldrakes aswell as take out the backfield units and harlequins.

Will certainly be a challenge as the necron player is a top player in Germany (rank 67 at the moment). But this is his 10th game with necrons so I´m hoping he´ll make some mistakes ;).

I´ll try and post results on here, if anyone is interested.

A little bit of paint here and there. But i had to revisit the scythe blade as I didn´t like the look of it :(. Note this is my first time reposing, greenstuffing and plasticarding so some of my work looks sooooo terrible I have to do it over and over again^^

I will be doing Typhus next however ;). So far I have only completed his base.

So we just finished the game:

We played

Typhus, Lord with power maul and Brand on bike, 38 zombies, 10 cultists, 5 plague marines with dual plasma, 7 Spawn MoN, 3 bikes with dual melta, 2 drakes, 15 autocannon havocs and 2 Mon Oblits + 1 aegis

They played

2 of those destroyer lords with scythe and 2+ save and mind control, 1 farseer, 15 nec warriors, 10 rangers, 3 eldar bikes, 10 Wraithes with 4 coils, 2 annihilation barges, 2 Wraithlords, 3 Scatter laser Walkers and an aegis with icarus

Ok: So result of the game... Necrons are hard as nails. Played against 2 units of wraithwing (with lord with gadgets). We messed up 1 or 2 important rules. The necron heavy support with gauss weapons killed most of our fire support, as we had no answer to armor 13. The Wraithlords did next to nothing, we basically ignored them. Zombies just tarpitted a unit of wraithes for 4 turns. Spawn wiped out a unit of wraithes together with bikers. The 2 drakes took out most of our opponents army.

Turn 6 we had 2 drakes left. They had 3 wraithes, a lord with one life and 2 unscratched Wraithlords, aswell as 1 barge.

Conclusion: We have to get back to some rules and gimmicks. Forgot to take fnp against perils of the warp with typhus. Need to read up on mind control scarabs and how they work exactly. (FAQ leaves alot of questions open IMO). Need to find out a few bits and pieces on flyer rules (Flyer rules state that enemy models may not be moved closer to 1" of base and i may not end my move within 1" of enemy model. --> does this mean i can rotate my base within 1" of enemy model and then fly? wording wise it seems possible... Will reread FAQ tomorrow)

Army wise Typhus + zombies is not worth it for full competetive gaming. Will play the list nonetheless for the time being. We need more long range threats. Maybe a quadgun to secure air dominance (Not much that can take out drakes rlly).

P.s I´m not fond of necrons

I think Typhus and zombies can be competitive, as long as you only expect zombies to tarpit and score objectives :D

My answer to taking a terminator lord at 1500 points is to bring along a landraider, giving me a bit of maneuverability, but I agree that our landraiders aren't the best, I just like mine a lot.

I too dislike necrons, having only played 2 games vs them, both with my draigowing in 6th, flyer spam destroyed me and the second game was only saved by a heroically suicidal charge from draigo on 1 wound, just under 12 inches from a necron squad with the warlord, survived overwatch, rolled double six for charge, challenged the lord, beat him down, and made the squad run off the board!

unsure about those rule queries, I do really dislike mind scarabs (why are you hitting yourself, why are you hitting yourself etc), although some consider the heldrake cheese, so to each their own

Typhus challenged the Lord, rolled a 1 for his daemon weapon round 1. Wounded the lord twice nonetheless. And got wounded twice in return. The following turn he failed his leadership against the mind control scarabs. Wounded himself twice and passed the test for force weapon on a 3d6 (due to eldar) and died. So it was kind of tragic^^.

And I wasn´t expecting more of the zombies :P

The Heldrake is strong, a must include in tournies. But hey. Nothing in tournies is cheese. Otherwise it wouldn´t be a tournie IMO. :D

I really don't think that they can be - but as soon as one wins a tournament...

Fair enough, I am yet to try out a Typhus led army as I've mentioned (although I do intend to, so many lists, so little time). I'll have a crack at writing up a nice 1500 point list one day (although I prefer pure lists, haven't tried out allies yet heh).

Ok guys. While I´m waiting for my order, I´m going to start painting up some cultists. On a LAN for the next 4 days, drinking and playing excessively and will be painting during any sober up phases available :). Pics will be uploaded on Friday.

Oh dear. Motivation where have you been. I managed to greenstuff the cultists up a little, spray them and paint the first layer of green on all of them, aswell as starting off 2 in 3 other colors. So sadly I haven´t managed to finish them in time for the order to arrive. Taking the train to Hannover in 10 minutes and picking up the order from the store. =).

Not sure what to do with my counts as spawns. Any ideas?

  • 4 weeks later...

Ok you guys. We´ve been having a mini tournament in my club the last 2 days and I thought I would give you a short report on how I´ve been doing.

We played a 1000 point tournie consisting of 7 players. We are going to be playing 6 games each. So yes everyone will be playing everyone, just because we have the time :).

I played the following: Typhus, 4*20 Zombies, 15 Zombies and 2 Baledrakes. Yes, yes I know... Zombies Oh ma gawd, you time staller. Well, actually it went quite well. I took about 10-15 minutes per turn and my opponents actually took a while longer than me on a few occasions.

Lists played by others:

Orks: Waaaghboss power fist on bike with 5+inv, Big mek shokk attack gun, 2*20 shoota boys with big shootas, 10 grots, 2*7 lootas, 3*lobbas with extra crew, 6* cannons? (S:8 Ap:3 and template fire mode), aegis

Chaos: Nurgle dp with mace, Baledrake, 2*5 havocs, 4 Nurgle Spawn, 3*15 cultists

Eldar with Dark Eldar: Farseer, Haemo, 2*3 grotesks? with Venoms, Ravager, 3*shuriken war walkers, 2*shuriken war walkers, 3 jetbikes, 5 rangers, aegis + quadgun

Dark Eldar with Tau: Cadre Fireblade, 10 Firewarriors, Skyray, Haemo, 3*5 warriors with short range lances in venoms, 3 Trueborn with lances in venom, Bomber, 5 Wyches in Venom

Space Wolves: Rune priest Termi armor, Arjac + 2 termis combi plas in drop pod, 10 grey hunters 2*plas, 10 grey hunters 2*plasma in rhino, 5 long fangs missiles, aegis + quadgun

Imperial Guard: Cmd Squad 4*plasma, Pask Leman russ punisher, 2 Inf platoons with lascas and autocannons (70 models total), 2*5 ratlings, aegis+quadgun

Game 1:

I played the space wolf army list. Set up was diagonal, 1 objective in each deployment zone. I spread out to deny the drop pod and took  first turn. I marched forward, l left 15 zombies behind to deny his drop pod from splitting my forces and spread the rest to force him to strike into his own deployment zone. In his turn the pod came down close to his lines and he tried casting jaws on my zombies which I denied on a 6. His shooting killed 5 zombies. In my turn both drakes came and flew over 10 grey hunters killing 5. Zombies all marched towards his lines. The flamers killed all but one longfang and finished off the remaining grey hunters that were in th open as well as destroy the quad gun (his intercept did no damage). The game continued along this line. I threw 40 zombies into his termis and kept them occupied focring arjac into duels with the zombie cultist leaders and taking out 2 termis in the time I spent locked in combat. I wasn´t brave enough to send Typhus into combat as arjac would have smashed him and I had to characters left to take the duel in his stead.

The game ended with me controlling both objectives and him having arjac and his runepriest still locked in combat. I won 18-2.

Game 2:

I played against the ork army list. This was a horrible match for me (at least I thought so). We played 3 objectives and normal set up. He set up the aegis far forwards to slow my zombies down even more, however this just gave me a lovely 4+ cover save for most of the time. His templates blew the zombies up like no mans business, I lost 18 in the first turn. As always I marched forwards taking care that Typhus could not be seen. In his next turn he destroyed another 10 zombies. Then both my drakes entered play seeing an opportunity to kill the waaaghboss who was attached to 20 boyz, I entered play on the left flank making the nearest model to me the waaagboss. 1 drake gained a 4+ cover save due to ruins from the lootas and my baleflamers combined with daemonforge killed the waaagh boss as well as 7 ork boyz. Perfect now nothing in his list could threaten Typhus, it was time to charge his lines. He continued to kill a few zombies, but just couldn´t kill enough to make much of a difference,as everything that could damage the helldraked tried to take them down. However, out of 6 hits with the lootas he managed 1 glance which I promptly saved. His artillery fired aswell, once again failing to damage the drakes. After that I charged a shoota mob after negating their strength and toughness by one with typhus and giving their weapons the gets hot special rule aswell. The Heldrakes wiped out the remaining shootas aswell as his grots, cutting his troops down to 15 ork boyz that were in 5" range of typhus and his zombies. I charged them and they lost 7 models to gets hot, however the nearest model was unaffected giving me the charge. I then cut down the remainder of the squad. In his turn the lootas managed to take 1 point off of a helldrake and were then wiped from the table in the following turn and he conceeded giving me a 20:0 victory.

Game 3:

I played against the other chaos list. We played Relic. This game was really short. His daemonprince stormed into combat with typhus hoping to quickly kill him only to be cut down with one swipe of his massive scythe. The dp caused 4 wounds which I all saved thanks to the rerolls the watching zombies gave me. And then the force weapon gave me 4 Instant death wounds on the dp who fled to the warp in terror. The spawns were killed by Typhus thanks to a successful force test in the next turn and my bale drake wiped out the havocs. His baledrake killed 9 zombies. He then conceded due to only having 40 cultists and a drake left on the table in turn 3 giving me another 20:0 win.

I have another 2 games to go today possibly. Will be playing against the imperial guard and eldar list today. So we´ll see how that goes out. I´m fairly optimistic after those last games.

Thats all for now guys ;)

Ok won the next 2 games aswell. Both at 20:0 after they both conceded after round 4. The drakes are just so unbelievably powerful and the zombies are imovable. So far I have only lost 1 kill point in all games. Lost my first full unit of zombies to the Eldar War walkers mass fire. Only really have to play the dark eldar player now.

Update on painting and modelling:

I got 30 more mantic zombies the day before yesterday and have finished building them. Aswell, as having finished 1 Chaos Spawn and 4 more cultists. Getting another 80 odd cultists on Friday.

Furthermore, I started doing some work on the Heldrake. Pictures will follow once I get my heldrake and Spawn and Cultists back. A friend of mine has borrowed them for a tournament this weekend. Might be able to upload some pics on Saturday evening, Sunday is more likely though.
