KBA's Raven Guard - Tearing out the carpet! - 3-10-14

Again, guys, while you CAN find that raven in the empire box set perched on a shield, for this conversion, I used one that came on it's own as you see it (not sure what set it's from). I have the raven-on-sheild bit, but opted not to use it as the other one is exactly the same and ready to slap down wherever you'd like :)

Gaint or Empire box :)

Here's a couple shots of another Chaplain I'm doing for Grotsmasha's old challenge:

I know it's not much of an update, but I haven't been able to fiddle with bitz much this week, and when I get a chance and create something that makes me excited, I like to share it :)

Painted Tactical Member due at the end of this month!

I wanted to go for a Chaplain in pretty well full Mk VI plate. So much of this bash comes from the LOTD finecast set: helmet, backpack, legs, chest gribblies, and left pad with the right pad stolen from Korvydae, the crozius a mish-mash of parts stemming from the Dark Angels power maul, and the drum-fed bolt pistol found in the Ravenwing command set. Magged the right wrist for plasma swap :)

I'm actually going to have to both agree and disagree with Knight of the Raven on this one, the square bulkiness of the bolt pistol is a harsh contrast to the rounded/conical aesthetic of the plasma pistol which visually ties in with the rounded edges of the armor, as well as the avian like helmet the chaplain is wearing.  From a tabletop and fluff perspective though, I'd say go with the bolt pistol- because it keeps the models points down, and also a bolt pistol is much easier to scavenge ammunition for on a battlefield as opposed to the rarer battery cell for the plasma pistol.

All that aside, that is a fantastic looking chaplain that has managed to meld both the avian theme of the ravian guard with the death motif associated with the chaplain's office in a space marine chapter.

Bolt pistol, definitely. A manly amount of beefiness but short enough not to overwhelm the otherwise slender design

If you keep this up I may have to eat you and steal your powers. Or maybe just steal your bitz box tongue.png

Thanks for the kind words, brothers!

Ain't that the truth! Hobby knife + Choice bitz = KBA's powers :). I'd really to hone my GS work, but have no idea where to start.

He's really cool. I like this kind of subtle conversion with lots of details that you discover only in looking several times.

Like his bolt pistol more btw.

Can't wait to see him painted !

A few weeks ago I entered Grotsmasha's Captain Challenge before the board broke and have been making some headway on the big guy here and there since. I wanted to go for a Captain of the 8th, Lord Executioner of the assault reserve. I've always thought Astroth would make a decent base for a Raven Guard HQ: he's got those dark eyes and long locks. Cutting him out of his axe-to-your-face pose required some green stuff repair work on those locks. Since I'd most likely be running artificer armor in games, I wanted something that stood out amongst my force (which will mostly be made of Corvus armor). The Mk II legs have always looked great, but always felt a little short too. After truscaling them into a pose I liked better, I figure I'm going to have to do the same to the rest of my guys. Thanks to Heinrich for the tips on that process. Along with the leg armor, I wanted shoulder pads that screamed pre-heresy, and after dry fitting a cataphractii lightning claw arm, I found what I was looking for. I sawed the claw off the opposite arm and stuck the ancient looking FW fist on it. The look was starting to form! I opted out of the huge cover pads for the shoulders; what was there was enough for me, so I glued in the fast attack etched brass RG symbols on top of them to denote the Captain's office.

For the jump pack, I was going to leave the wings off, but after tacking them to the pack it topped off the look. He looks like he could stand-in for Corax himself in heresy games. He's still not done: I want to cork board him and maybe add a tabbard between his legs. Fluff and name will come when he's done! Thanks for looking :)

First of, the raven is, IIRC, from the Garden of Morr box...

And that Corax/Praetor/Captain is stunning, really love the composition! I was thrown off at first by the shoulder pads, but once you add the JP it really all fits together!

Can't wait to see it painted!
