Fulfilling my Vow

Somewhat inspired by Nicholas Kay's drawing “The Emperor Protects” I decided it was time for my poor neglected Sisters of Battle to see the light of day again. Now these models were originally painted when I really had no idea how to paint, at least half of them were. The other half were painted by my wife, who was also learning how to paint miniatures. Suffice to say, they were quite sad. It occurred to me just how awesome a decently
(okay maybe giving myself too much credit there) painted Sisters army looked on the table, so something had to be done.

That's when I saw mention of the 2013 Librarium Painting Challenge. It would serve as the prefect excuse to get my Sisters up to snuff. After a few day long spa service in the simple green I was ready to begin. My vow is for twenty sisters with bolters, 4 with heavy bolters, and one terminator captain (for my DIY chapter). Below are the two WiP photos.

I would like to note something here before I show the finished images. This was also an experiment for me in speed painting. I have a toddler, and not a load of free time to paint sadly. My GOAL with these models was table top quality. Not Golden Demon, but nice to look at. And I wanted to do it quickly. I have to say, I'm pretty pleased with the results. All 24 Sisters were finished in a little over 12 hours of work (16 or so episodes of Star
Trek TNG, thanks Netflix). At a bit over a half an hour per model, I am not complaining.  Although the guns could probably use another coat of red to smooth them over a bit.

Here's a close up.

As for the Captain....he looks bad. Well at least the white does; I wasn't it in the mood to paint when I worked on him and it shows. He'll be going back into the simple green after I've left him to stew on a shelf and don't get irritated just by looking at him. I do like his cloak though.

Still, vow complete.  Thanks for your time.

I can paint that good.

Only takes me 6 to 8 hours a girl...cry.gif Not counting the faces. I could paint a face all year and not come up with that.

Real eyecandy.

Thank you all very much for the kind words.  And yes the faces still took probably the most time, but being (to me) the focal point of the model, worth it.  This was actually just a bunch of tricks I hadn't tried out before that happened to work on one or two test minis.  For example I used a gray primer then just three coats of wash for the armor (Black, Brown, Black). That was it, no layers or highlights. The multiple washes just made a nice transition and gave me for the time spent a great black. Slap a coat on and walk away to let dry.  Total time involved (not drying time mind you) 45 minutes.

Again, thank you.
