Sentinels: 2024! Technically my first Intercessor...

Recommended Posts

Great job, buddy! I can see for sure all the hard work put in over the months paid off. Huoka looks great. I love the freehand in particular. The bike looks awesome, really ornate and totally unique. I can see him being an amazing centrepiece to an army all by himself.

But there is one thing. You know he needs a command squad mounted on bikes blinged out, right...? ;)

That helmet is pretty cool. Where's that from?

Mikhal has it right, it's a Sons of Horus helm minus the spikes and topknot.

But there is one thing. You know he needs a command squad mounted on bikes blinged out, right...?

Oh, that's definitely on the cards. Lance Company needs it's Veterans, you see...

Happy Tuesday (Monday for some?), folks!

DO YOU FEEL THE NEED... FOR SPEED?

I present to you, for your consideration: Pursuit-Captain Huoka, the Seething Pathrazer, Captain of Lance Company.

If you look back at past blog entries, you'll see that I've been working on him for... quite a while. So why did it take so long? Mostly because I was trying to source just one instance of the helmet, but I eventually just caved and bought the whole set from Forge World.

Complications for this build include the Legion Outrider kit being less compatible with non-Scout Biker kits than I expected (but far from insurmountable), a few headaches in getting his grav-pistol arm to line up (my own fault, no more cobbling together three different arms to make a single arm any more - I had the same problem with my Chapter Master), and constantly going back and forth on how to base him.

I am very happy with how he turned out, he pretty much came together exactly as I envisioned. Yes, that's Cato Sicarius's shoulder pad he's got there - it's the most Dredd-esque shoulder pad I could find (and I really wanted that look for my biker Captain)! I'm particularly proud of his heraldry (on the shield of the statuary behind his seat), which is (embarassingly) my most ambitious attempt at freehand yet. This is the first bike model that I've ever done! He was also partially an experiment to see how much work would be involved in applying the Outrider kit to the basic plastic bikes... Of course, I only found out after I started on him that the Black Knight kit is different from the Dark Vengeance Ravenwing bike kit, which is itself different from the regular bike kit, and all of those are different from the Scout bike kit!

In any case, very much looking forward to what you all think of Huoka.

Uih.love the seargent. I need that gleam for my Luth, so di you have maybe a recipe for it? Thx

Nothing special about my silver. Black undercoat, mithril silver basecoat, heavy wash with watered-down black to bring out any details, and another (solid) layer of mithril silver over the top. You should be able to achieve a much nicer effect than mine if you build up from boltgun (or whatever it's called these days... leadbelcher?) to chainmail to mithril (runefang steel?), which I believe is how GW paints their Grey Knights. Hope either of those help!

#WINNING

Thanks for the kind words, team!

And with Huoka complete, +Vigilant Saviours+ comes to a close (even though I didn't finish the Chapter Banner bearer for my Honour Guard). From here on out, it's all Lance Company, all the time.

So it might seem a little pedestrian after showing off Huoka, but this stuff is currently sitting on the bench, ready to be used:

Rules-wise, this will be a five-strong Tactical squad, but fluff-wise they're the power-armoured members of a mixed-armour squad. One of these guys is also going to be my entry into +Walls Fail, Fists Do Not+.

BRACE FOR IMPACT

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/40K%20WiPs/project_lance_co_04.jpg

Knight Seelix is Squad Agathon’s skirmisher, always ranging ahead of the others when terrain is rough or built-up. His squad knows this has more to do with Seelix’s natural predisposition than any formal designation; Seelix is, to put it simply, a brute. He revels in capitalising on any opportunity to crush a foe against a bulkhead, or to trample a trench-fighter underfoot. Seelix is a merciless battering ram in cruel and callous Astartes form - a weapon that Knight Agathon wields accordingly.

* * *

Seelix is my vow for +WALLS FAIL, FISTS DO NOT+. Salvaged some old parts, mixed in the legs from the new Assault Squad (very dynamic) and quite possibly the only closed fist-right hand available in plastic from the new Devastator Squad (also a great kit, may buy more even if it means I end up with more heavy weapons than I can possibly use... Which admittedly is already true for me with the last generation of metal heavy weapons as well).

I've always wanted to do a Marine in a shoulder charging pose with a tucked bolter. The latter has always been an issue until JeffTibbetts showed me the easy way... Somewhere. I can't find the post, sorry. :sad.: Cheers bud!

That bike captain is absolutely fantastic! A gorgeous conversion and some very impressive painting, too. I especially like the small heraldic shield and the designs inside the robe. Delicious stuff! :smile.:

Thanks! I can't take credit for the shield beyond painting it (though I am pretty proud of that! I usually suck at freehand), and the details inside the robe are actually sculpted on (the Ravenwing Command Squad box is absolutely great).

It's been a very long time since I last painted something with a 4+ armour save...

I'm both happy and disappointed at the cloak. I wanted to show that the cameleoline cloak was shifting it's colours, but it kind of looks to me like it's just a well-painted dirty cloak. :sad.:

I'm about to base one of the Scouts. Also, I've been working on something else at the same time.

Still need to finalise the markings on the engine shrouds before I go any further with painting that.

More progress! Various sections of the Stormtalon, plus a Scout with sniper rifle.

REACH OUT AND TOUCH SOMEONE

So this is my first time working with the Scout Sniper kit, and I have to say I'm a little unimpressed at how narrow and limited and un-versatile it is. Still, I think there's room for me to convert a little. I opted for a helmet for the same reason I don't do helmetless power armour: it just makes sense. The style of helmet also helps convey the aesthetic I'm going for: where power armoured Astartes are analogous to knights, gleaming and impetuous, the Scouts in the Sentinels are operators, efficient and subtle.

Also, I decided to make Seelix more brutish/thuggish, because I've decided that his squad is going to be full of bitz I rarely use because I dislike the way they look. It's just a headswap, but I feel like I accomplished what I set out to do.

The change in helm for Brother Seelix is very appropriate, does make him look more bullish. I'm also a bit unsure about the pig iron helms for scouts, then again I'm one of those guys who prefer his scouts to go helmetless (not very codex I know). Regardless, I definetly get the look you were going for with the scout sniper.

Time to breathe some life into this here thread...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/40K%20WiPs/project_lance_co_10_etl5.jpg

Not quite finished yet, but these are the models I'm prepping for ETL V. As you can see, marine #10 in the bottom right is missing pretty much his entire body. Ten Assault marines. While I'm vowing them as a single squad for ETL V, they're actually going to be two separate demi-squads.

Sadly, a photo of the parts in that state don't really show off what they'll look like assembled, so I might take a few quicker snaps down the track  too.

I know it's been pretty quiet around here. And I have no excuse (Overwatch is great though).

Anyway, I made some progress this weekend:

Also, a week ago, I came across a special offer I couldn't pass on, and now I own an Imperial Knight Warden and an Imperial Knight...
