From Darkness, Light...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/40K%20WiPs/ETLII_Vow101.jpg

Yeah, I'd have preferred to bump up the Vows for the Liber, but unfortunately I'm currently playing and building a Terminator list.

And to assign identities to the bunches of bitz...

Top: Cat Terminator with pair of (counts-as) lightning claws.

Mid left: Tart Terminator with assault cannon (will be using a non-Tart head).

Mid right: Tart Terminator with thunder hammer and storm shield (you can see I'm using plastic from the Deathwing Command set, still considering my options as far as removing the hooded angel is concerned).

Bottom left: Indo Terminator Sergeant (mix of Grey Knight and Deathwing parts).

Bottom right: Another Cat Terminator with a pair of lightning claws.

Vow update!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/40K%20WiPs/ETLII_Vow102.jpg

Pads, arms, helmet and shield on the right are all done. Chest plate just needs the gold detailing, the legs need final painting on the actual legs (the centre is all done) which is easier said than done, since the backs of the legs have heaps of detail. The hands and weapons need heaps of paint too! Plus the base is ready.

All that said, I'm behind schedule on the vow...

Next model on the workbench has the same loadout, so he might be somewhat pedestrian when I post WiPs!

In the meantime though, this fella scared some assaults away in my game today, by account of his intimidating manner.

Well, no, not really. His squad didn't get the opportunity to smash things.

In any case, second twin lightning claw terminator coming up! Followed by assault cannon terminator. Probably.

Alrighty, second one on it's way. Amusingly, in similar state to the first one when I first took a photo of it.

I think I'm moving a bit faster now though!

Damn, that photo from a week ago show how little I've actually done in the time between then and now. Second Cataphract is almost done, just a couple of purity seals to go and I'll slap him together.

First Cataphract also gained some (nicely billowing!) purity seals in the intervening time too.

Fell off the face of the Earth for a fortnight! Been focusing on my Master of Sanctity (originally planned to work on him much further down the line, but the Chaplain Conversion Challenge was a good excuse to get stuck in).

Synod-Marshal Hector Mord, Master of Sanctity to the Sentinels (counts-as Thulsa Kane):

Back to painting Tartaros Terminators now. The fellow with the thunder hammer has been glaring at me angrily. Or would be, if I had already chosen a head for him...

This is awesome. Really well put together bash! Wouldn't want to tango with this MF'er

Right-o, second lightning claw guy photographed.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/40K%20WiPs/ETLII_Vow105.jpg

After putting him together, I realised I made a small mistake with his heraldic shield and the feather sticks out way too much. But it's not noticeable unless you're looking at it from the side, so I'll probably leave it as is.

Also, this stuff arrived recently:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/40K%20WiPs/boxes-p4.jpg

The Praetor in Cataphract armour will be the squad sergeant.

Whoa, definitely a fan of the Cataphract with twin swords. Simple but has a lot of presence.

Would be good to get a shot of all your Sentinels at some point to see how they look as an army!

Cheers matey! Will try to take my models down to the LGS this weekend and snap some photos with terrain.

Thanks! I'm thinking I'll paint him up once I finish this ETL Vow!

Hm. I think this might be one of my favourite armies on here. There's a sense of character that you get when they're on the table en masse as a unified force that is lost a little when you're just looking at individual WIP builds. I love the Honour Guard, they're easily my favourite unit of the completed force so far. Darius is f'in huge! What do you run him as on the tabletop?

Nice terrain too...I'm trying to get my LGS to graduate past the stage of green grass battlemats, and get some of the lads together to build a couple desert/moon/tundra tables.

Thanks! Being one of anyone's (other than myself) favourite armies on anywhere is high praise! And I agree, when you put an army on the table it looks (and feels) much better than just looking at individual models.

Worth noting though, these shots are all my completed models (barring a few terminators) that are at the standard I'm happy with. There's more stuff that's older and of lower painting quality, and this 'army' is actually two army lists; a 1000-point counts-as Black Templar list and a 1500-point counts-as Dark Angels list (previous Codex) that's missing a Dreadnought and a Land Raider.

Still, I took them all out for a spin, because the intention is that everything is indeed that they look unified on the tabletop, as any Chapter would. Mission accomplished, I feel! Still need to do some stuff with those lists though, at least before I can call them truly 'complete'. I just keep getting distracted by new shiny (literally, since my boys are silver).

The terrain was donated to my LGS by someone. My only issue with it is that there's only so many ways you can assemble the squares themselves, but all the other terrain in the shop is literally terrain on a table with a M:TG table cover (so not even a grass mat!). Still, it's a step up from Magicdeckboxhammer and JohnnyWalkerBlackLabelboxhammer (though the latter usually also involves the items previously in the boxes).

Amusingly, I broke a few bitz off things while getting them onto the table. Which is good, since it told me which models I have to be more careful with. I'm looking at you, Honour Guard/Praetors!

Oh, and I run Darius either as a Chapter Master with artificer armour, plasma pistol, relic blade and storm shield, or as a Chapter Master with artificer armour, plasma pistol, and the Legion Relic stratagem. You can probably guess what type of game calls for the latter.

Idle hands, the Devil's playthings...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/40K%20WiPs/ETLII_Vow106.jpg

Okay, maybe not idle... but definitely distracted...

Anyway, bits and pieces of the next couple of Terminators! Again, I need to step up the pace for my ETL Vow...

I may be wrong but doesn't a storm shield call for you to replace a weapon? I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's the main difference between storm shields and combat shields.

-----------------------------------------------------------

My confusion over war-gear aside, The army looks awesome and I look forward to seeing more of those terminators

It does, the storm bolter combi-plasma in the corner isn't for him (and won't be a combi-weapon at all, by the rules, it's going to be purely aesthetic, sadly), I just don't have that much space on my workspace right now! It's just the foreground items that are going on this guy.

I actually assembled him last night, but it turned out that dry-fitting sometimes only goes so far, so I had to re-work his right hand a little.

The stormbi-plasma will be going on the squad's Sergeant. Who's probably next up for completion.

Very nice looking army with some characterful conversions.

The chaplain's sword arm looks a little off to say the least. If you held a sword like that, whether it be still or in motion, it would be very awkward to hold.

Well, that's a few photos lost, but that doesn't matter too much.

What does matter is this update:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/40K%20WiPs/ETLII_Vow111.jpg

I'm on the home stretch now. Assuming all goes according to plan, I'll be done just in time for my travel plans.
