Sentinels: 2024! Technically my first Intercessor...

Recommended Posts

I'm very happy to see you posting progress on your marines again. I have come into posession of about 30 SM bikes and an unlimited amount of the resin bits for the outrider bike kit. I was wondering how difficult it was for you to get the outrider parts looking so good on regular marine bikes instead of the scout bikes. Would you mind sharing your technique and any tricks that helped?

These are the posts you'll want to look at: front half, back half. The back half is simple, it's just a matter of filing it down so the Outrider shell fits (the various bikes have different profiles, but none should be very difficult to adjust for). The front half, on the other hand, requires use of the Scout Bike front, as the Outrider wheels and weapon housing won't fit onto anything else without a lot of work. If 'an unlimited amount of the resin bits' means what I think it means, this shouldn't be a problem for you.

I've been away for a while, upon my return I am not disappointed!

Lovely looking Sentinels, Disruptor.

Always appreciate your comments, mate! Stay tuned...

Am making good progress (IMO): have dropped the base silver layer on two more Assault Marines. No photos though, I don't really think it's worth taking any for this stage.

Missed a bunch of updates. I love that pose on Seelix (and thanks for the shoutout!) so much. Looks great in your shiny metallic as well. For the scout cloak, I wonder if you could emphasize the chameleoline by adding a sort of energy line where it's shifting. Depends how you see it working, whether it's sort of powered by something or more natural like an actual chameleon or octopus. I think it looks cool as-is, but I agree that some might imagine it's just dirty as heck. A sort of glowing, wavy line where it shifts would make it pretty obvious, I think. If you're not sure what I mean I can look up some pics of what I have in mind.

I actually hadn't considered painting an energy shimmer onto the cloaks... On one hand, I feel that might be a little beyond my skill level. On the other hand, it's worth looking at... I'll think about it more when I return to that Scout squad.

In the meantime, two more ready to rock:

That being said... I am SO behind schedule for ETL V! Six more to go, and I usually take close to a week each! Gah!

My neck hurts, my shoulders ache, and my elbows are sore.

But it is done. I've been painting for a solid 72 hours (I stopped to eat and sleep of course).

Vow complete!

There's actually a few placeholder parts in there that are tacked-on rather than glued because I'd like to revisit the models at a later date.

Things I've learned:

  1. I will never paint another Mk II jump pack ever again. It's badass, but there are far too many unnecessary details...
  2. ...which means that Forge World has to drown the mould in mould release agent. Maybe it was just my batch, but the release agent stayed on despite me putting the pieces through so many rounds of washing and scrubbing that my girlfriend complained that I would rather treat Forge World resin to an all-expenses-paid spa as opposed to her. Well, she would if she existed. Seriously, there was a lot of soap and a lot of scrubbing before I gave up and threw on multiple layers of primer as the solution (it's not a great solution).
  3. I should really check if I have enough hands available when I decide that I'm going to make a 10-man Assault Squad and have them all dual-wield chainswords. Interesting (and disappointing) note: the current Assault Squad box puts all pistols in one hand and all melee weapons in the other.

(I stopped to eat and sleep of course).

Pah, weakling!  Hunger is an illusion of the body, sleep deprivation an illusion of the mind.   The God-Emperor should provide all the sustenance you need.

Oh, and good job on the completed vow.  Though as stated above, more pics please.  Have always loved your Sentinels and the little stories you put behind each one.

I've been given the all-clear to enter the Imperial Fists Expansion with this:

Coincidentally, this will be my first time painting a Storm Talon too.

Few more shots of the squad, mate? Front-on, and maybe a few of the mkII jump pack? Looks great though, an assault squad in your scheme really pops.

Will do! Just cleaning up a few things on my desk, and I've actually already replaced a head or two for this squad, but I'll take some better photos of the individuals tomorrow; the Sergeant with Mk II jump pack will definitely be one of these.

IFE Progress:

Used a sliver of plasticard to prop the bottom panel open because I like the look. Had to make sure it's structurally sound as well, since the engines can pivot, and the bottom panel is where people would grip it to do that.

Other engine almost done, pretty happy with my pace so far. Once I'm done with that, will be changing track a little bit and switching to paint up some bits and bobs for the squad I finished for ETL and then taking the close-ups I promised.

Some closeups were requested, and a few of the squad are already documented earlier in the thread, while the two guys with the pistols are actually going to be broken down for parts sometime soon (I ran out of ideas for them so painted them up as spare parts for the ETL):

And the Sergeant:

C&C welcome as always!

Well, colour me surprised that the Sergeant didn't get any comments!

In any case, update time!

The Storm Talon is coming along nice and steady. As you can see, I have sprayed the canopy and intend to paint it. I've already looked up some examples of a reflective glass surface (think helmet visors from the Halo series), but I'm open to input on that front.

I'm quite fond of the critical-hit-spot I've given it! :laugh.:

So it’s been months since my last post here, and in that time I’ve managed to fail my Primarch during the Imperial Fists Expansion; I had some real life stuff come up and then I fell down an Overwatch hole from which I did not emerge for months.

What a time to be a Marine player though! The author of our holy Codex has returned, and a new Eldar god stalks the void, plastic Mk III and Tartaros…

Anyway, the least I can do is show off some of the work I’ve done this past week (which admittedly is work I should have done for the IFE).

A quick run-down on the Stormtalon since it's been so long...
  • Painted canopy completed
  • Both engines completed
  • Dorsal armour plate completed
  • Sensor suite and cockpit housing completed
  • Left fuselage 50% complete (you can see that I need to put the finishing touches on the tail end of the fuselage)
  • Right fuselage tail stripe marked

Once the above is completed (shouldn't be long), all that remains will be the weapons and mounts. Other than the ridiculous hiatus during which I did nothing, I'm actually making solid time on the Stormtalon. Which makes it even more of a shame that I didn't complete it in time for the IFE...

Not quite 'tomorrow', but I was on a roll.

Got the other half of the fuselage done.

The bottom of the tail hasn't been finished because that's where I'll be clamping the halves together to make sure the glue sets.

Only the weapons left now...

Stage 1 of assembly, Typhoon missile pods completed.

Once I remove the rubber bands, I'll be finishing up with the tail. After that, it's just the assault cannons...

Doneburgers! Four years and nine months after it was released, I finally have a finished Stormtalon.

Well... No. I still need to do the base (which I have no usable ideas for). Also still deciding on whether I want the aquila on the nose or some other icon there.

I present to you the sneakiest, stealthiest, shotgun-y-est, most silenced boltpistol-est Scout in Lance Company.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/40K%20WiPs/project_lance_co_24.jpg

Quite pleased with him myself, except for maybe his head being a little low and protruding. But hey, he's trying to keep a low profile, so I'll live with it.

Now, what have we here?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/40K%20WiPs/project_lance_co_25.jpg

Oh, not much. Just the next model I'm working on!
