Looking good! Glad to have you on-board

Happy to be a part of it! Thanks very much for starting the Expansion when you have, the timing of it is particularly fortuitous.

First WiP for Imperial Fists Expansion 3:

Very early in the painting process, but far enough along that you can get a decent idea of what the final result will look like. I will be using the weapons to tie both Honour Guards in this squad together, while black tabards and a black right pauldron will tie the entire squad together since they're a Reclusiam Honour Guard unit (the Chapter Champion is part of my vow, but the standard bearer will be further down the track).

Update: the Color and the Shape!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/40K%20WiPs/vigilant_saviours_26_ifex3.jpg

Gotta say, he looks way better with some paint on him. I also was not expecting to like Space Marine Duckface as much as I do after making this model. Unfortunately, the lighting doesn't show off the highlights on the tabard very well, but I'm pretty proud of them. The painted bitz on the left side of the photo are things that will be going on him.

The bitz on the right side of the photo are various things for other models in my vow, primed and with the first layer of silver on them.

Update!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/40K%20WiPs/vigilant_saviours_27_ifex3.jpg

Legs, pauldrons, tabard and base are all that's left on Honour Guard #2.

The rest of the unfinished parts in the pic are for the Champion. I really, really hope I haven't miscalculated and underestimated the thickness of the white-tac I'm using to hold his arms and torso in place while some glue sets...

So I'm flying to Italy on Saturday. Which means this will be my last Vow update till I'm back in New Zealand on the 19th of November.

It's not immediately obvious, but the writing on the pauldron scroll says Trent (his name!). With him I was trying a more dynamic pose, halfway through a wind-up for a long horizontal slash.

A shot showing off the scrollwork on both models.

And the last photo is of the Chapter Champion's components. I was planning to have him down by the end of the week, but unfortunately he fell by the wayside a little.

C&C always welcome!

Those are both fantastic models. I love how similar they are in terms of their backpack decorations and loadout. The scrolls on the back are an especially nice touch, as they're the same on top but the movement is totally different.

That champion also looks like a total boss. Is that two-handed hammer a kitbash with a Grey Knight bit? I can't quite place it.

Thanks! I definitely needed something to tie these two together to indicate that they are indeed part of the same squad while also making sure they 'fit' with the other squad of Honour Guard I did. So while the other squad got collared chestplates, ceremonial knives, and leather strap tabards (cingulum/cingula? not sure what they're called), these guys got the scrolls, the incense things at their right hips, and black tabards with a black pauldron and white face (to reflect that these guys are Honour Guard to the Chapter's Master of Sanctity). Like the other squad, these guys have their own backpack toppers as well, and like the other squad, each squad's Champion (and Standard Bearer, when I get to them) is slightly more individualised.

And yup! Grey Knight thunder hammer (stock) but with a Mk III forearm and about 2 hours of cussing, filing, cutting, lost fingertip skin, and discarding of failed bitz in order to get the arms to line up properly!

Ready to drop the hammer?

I've painted up the wrist joint since, so it's no longer just primer facing outward. Other than that, I'm pretty stoked that I didn't have to fiddle with him at all when assembling, which is saying something, since the arms were very fiddly to dry-fit.

So I got this last weekend:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/cabinet_01.jpg

And the contents for now:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/cabinet_02.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/cabinet_03.jpg

Yup, crappy photos. But you get the gist.

In any case, I have something to declare!

I didn't just buy a display cabinet because the time was right. No, I also bought the display cabinet because I knew having empty shelves would be motivation to complete my next project:

Complete the entirety of Lance Company

Yes, that's right, an entire Company of Astartes. It won't be a strictly Codex Company, but it will be approximately 100 Astartes, not counting Veterans and Scouts. This is the reason I have that pile of parts pictured a few posts up. Speaking of that pile...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/40K%20WiPs/vigilant_saviours_34.jpg

It got bigger!

Also, some painted parts from that pile:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/40K%20WiPs/project_lance_co_01.jpg

I realise some might not care for mixing parts between multiple armour Marks. To them I say: variety is awesome.

To sum up: I intend to complete an entire Company of Sentinels. This will be Lance Company, under the command of Pursuit-Captain Huoka. I'd like to have it complete in a year, but considering how long it takes me to paint, that may be very optimistic. Once I have completed the last model of my +Vigilant Saviours+ project, Lance Company will be underway, with little to no progress being completed on anything not related to the completion of Lance Company. I will endeavour to post weekly updates (if not more often).

I hope that anyone watching this thread will pop in every so often to see how I'm going on that front; as you all know, I am fuelled by the mad props of the B&C PC&A community!

I said weekly updates, didn't I? Bit of a fail there...

Anyway, let me introduce Paladin Lai'Enn of Lance Company.

ARMOUR UP!

He might be a little controversial, given that I've mixed Mk III and Mk VIII, and Mk III doesn't normally get jump packs, let alone a mono-engine variant.

Also, I never hear of people taking eviscerators on their Assault Squad Sergeants. There's probably a reason for that, but ehhhh...

Still, eager to hear what people think!

Aw yiss, that assault dude is fricking awesome. I also never realised that the MKVIII chest and the MkIII/MkII helmets looks so sweet together! I'm stealing that idea. Blatantly, I will add. ;)

Kudo's for getting a cabinet, btw. All miniatures deserve one.

Thanks for the props, team!

Soric: I've definitely put off getting the display cabinet for a while! At about the time I decided to complete a Company, I figured I needed to 'get some skin in the game', so to speak, so yeah, motivation. It's working too! Also, that's a nice Nova in your blog there.

Augustus: I was definitely thinking Mk III with any collar would look super badass. Good to see it turned out well, right? Be aware that the Mk III helmet will need a bit of a chin-clip to fit into the Mk VIII torso. In this case, I managed to obscure it through posing.

Happy Tuesday (Monday for some?), folks!

DO YOU FEEL THE NEED... FOR SPEED?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/40K%20WiPs/vigilant_saviours_38.jpg

I present to you, for your consideration: Pursuit-Captain Huoka, the Seething Pathrazer, Captain of Lance Company.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/40K%20WiPs/vigilant_saviours_35.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/40K%20WiPs/vigilant_saviours_36.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/40K%20WiPs/vigilant_saviours_37.jpg

If you look back at past blog entries, you'll see that I've been working on him for... quite a while. So why did it take so long? Mostly because I was trying to source just one instance of the helmet, but I eventually just caved and bought the whole set from Forge World.

Complications for this build include the Legion Outrider kit being less compatible with non-Scout Biker kits than I expected (but far from insurmountable), a few headaches in getting his grav-pistol arm to line up (my own fault, no more cobbling together three different arms to make a single arm any more - I had the same problem with my Chapter Master), and constantly going back and forth on how to base him.

I am very happy with how he turned out, he pretty much came together exactly as I envisioned. Yes, that's Cato Sicarius's shoulder pad he's got there - it's the most Dredd-esque shoulder pad I could find (and I really wanted that look for my biker Captain)! I'm particularly proud of his heraldry (on the shield of the statuary behind his seat), which is (embarassingly) my most ambitious attempt at freehand yet. This is the first bike model that I've ever done! He was also partially an experiment to see how much work would be involved in applying the Outrider kit to the basic plastic bikes... Of course, I only found out after I started on him that the Black Knight kit is different from the Dark Vengeance Ravenwing bike kit, which is itself different from the regular bike kit, and all of those are different from the Scout bike kit!

In any case, very much looking forward to what you all think of Huoka.

Uih.love the seargent. I need that gleam for my Luth, so di you have maybe a recipe for it? Thx

Nothing special about my silver. Black undercoat, mithril silver basecoat, heavy wash with watered-down black to bring out any details, and another (solid) layer of mithril silver over the top. You should be able to achieve a much nicer effect than mine if you build up from boltgun (or whatever it's called these days... leadbelcher?) to chainmail to mithril (runefang steel?), which I believe is how GW paints their Grey Knights. Hope either of those help!
