I started on my imperial guard army about 3 years ago but after a while real life and other projects kindve took over a bit, i am hoping that this log might help to keep me motivated. I will be doing The 121st Alcari as my main force with any funky stuff going to a regiment or 3 from Hellainus Novus.

am currently after opinions on this as a possible power maul, does it look ok or does it need a cabled power feed similar to the captains powerfists?

I dig your marbo. what model is that built around? also, I believe it should have a scope, but not that one. if im not mistaken, that is a SM bolter scope. it seems too large and rather impractical for IG. I would recommend the scopes found at Anvil industries. they are a much more practical size for IG.

Interesting ideas in here. The squished Ork is a fantastic touch and executed nicely.

Some great work here.

I too love your Marbo. A far better pose that the official model (hope they bring it out in FineCast sometime to make it easier to convert).

 

Love your quad-autocannon turret as well.

 

I think that power maul could do with a cable, though if you're going to paint it up with some 'power effects' then perhaps you could get away with it without one.

Captain Cirrius- marbo is based on a cobra (notsnakeplisken) from heresy. ordered some tactical scopes, will see how they look

Darth Potato- cheers, the wide spread eagle pose of the black reach ork nobz gave me the inspiration and 2 nobz later it kindve looks ok, should be fun to paint some squirty blood :)

Kierdale- cheers, the turret has been a bit of an annoying build, currently working out magnets to enable it to have different levels of elevation, once that is done i can paint the weapons and interior bits and then actually glue it together :)  on various forums the cabling seems to be the way to go.

jeremy1391- cheers, the bird rider (and his 30 mates) is something i have had sitting in a box for years, its good to hear people still like it. the mortar is a blatant copy of somebody elses work, i dont remember whos though, have just ordered some tubing to hopefully extend the barrel.

With my wife and daughter off to cbeebies live today I managed to grab a bit of hobby time :)

 

as suggested I tried an anvil industries scope on snake, if I don’t use them they will go to marksmen in squads. Great service, got them the next day, just tried one but still unsure

Also ordered some plasticard tubing to try sorting out the heavy mortar barrel. Whilst playing about with it I found out that a tank wheel fits exactly as well so out of the options below which looks the best? I prefer the biggest one but think it might be a bit big compared to a regular heavy mortar?

Got some guardsmen and women ready for spraying, quick coat of grey before the rain came, some of them have been converted a little bit, am not a fan of 5 or 6 poses throughout a 100+ model list, its going to mean a lot of work but hopefully it will be worth it

no opinions? oh well, maybe i can get some help on this, am after the most badass pistol and sword pose you have ever seen, i have some fully posable bionics from anvil industries but am drowning in the possibilities, please help me to produce that "dont you f*&^%ng dare look at me!" pose by either posting pics, links or describing the ultimate sword and pistol pose

Using the old Hellhound turret for a Chimerdon and Chimerax is an excellent idea. I might scour ebay for some old ones going cheap to make my own versions - credit to you for the idea of course. I hope to see you do a Chimerro soon as well.

 

Where were the parts for the female Guardsmen from?

 

I'm rather partial to this type of pose - it's not an action pose, but it exudes badass. I'm sure it's possible if you replace the gladius with a pistol.

Here's another example of the kind of pose I mean, this time from the Dark Angels Codex. He also has a pistol so maybe more appropriate.

Basically some form of walking forward purposefully either brandishing a weapon like the Chaplain or holding it low at the ready, like Helbrecht and Thiel (Ultramarine in the first picture). I admit, I don't know how easy it would be to convey the same sort of menace with a Guardsman, as they lack the bulk of power armour.

am liking the ultramarine pose, swapping out the short sword for a pistol should work, will try out the pose when i get a chance. am still open to other poses though so any body else got a kickass pose?

currently thinking a dead enemy on the base might be cool, in my fluff the Alcari are engaged against orks and nids out in the desert, would a carnifex head be too much? i like the idea that he has just killed it and is strolling over to his next victim like the carnifex wasnt a biggie

for straken as suggested above, i am going for the "walking forward determinedly" pose of the marine on the front of the Calth horus heresy book, swapping the shorter sword for the pistol. what i am after now is which head do you think works best with that? am thinking the head on the left at the moment and am hoping to build him tomorrow (finally!)

For what it's worth I vote no scope, looking at that close up side-on of 'Marbo', it seems the sculptor has gone to the effort to make the eye follow the barrel and anything you add to that is going to hover around the forehead. Besides, I doubt a legend like Marbo really needs a scope on a pistol, but that's just my opinion.

Retaliation the phoenix project was a community project that voted for stuff they wanted to see made, got various volunteers to sculpt the items and then these were cast by further volunteers, you just paid for the production, no profits etc, I guess it was similar to all the kickstarters that abound currently but was well before its time (would guess at least 5 years ago)and was cheaper J

Coolhand Fluke snake plisken has a scope on his gun in the films so I have decided on a scope see below

Great stuff in here, when do we get to see more of the vehicles though? I need me some tanks! You've done a good job with the conversions making the models more varied, it's making me want to model up some Guardsmen... Shame I'm at work :P

I love the walking wounded squad. You hollowed out a whole torso for the guy holding his armour? Great work.

 

The reflex scope on Marbo is excellent too. A lovely little detail.
