So, I started a Crimson Slaughter army. Wasn't planning on it, but I had so many Chaos models when I got multiple Dark Vengeance sets to get my Dark Angels army started... Might as well use everything!

Army list

Lord Krannon

Sorcerer of Tzeentch

Helbrute Mortis Metalikus

Chosen unit #1
Aspiring Champion Draznicht
-Chosen with Power Fist
-Chosen with Lightning Claws x3
Mark of Tzeentch

Chosen Unit #2
Aspiring Champion with Power Axe
-Chosen with Power Axe x4
Mark of Khorne

Chaos Marines unit #1
Aspiring Champion with Power Fist
-Chaos Marine with Plasma gun x2
-Chaos Marine with Bolter x7
-Close Combat Weapons x9

Chaos Marines unit #2
Aspiring Champion with Power Fist
-Chaos Marine with Meltagun x2
-Chaos Marine with Bolter x7
-Close Combat Weapons x9

 Cultist unit #1
Champion with CCW/Shotgun
-Cultist with Hvy Stubber x2
-Cultist with Autogun x17
Mark of Nurgle

Cultist unit #2
Champion with CCW/Autopistol
-Cultist with Flamer x2
-Cultist with CCW/Autopistol x17
Mark of Khorne

Raptors unit #1
Aspiring Champion with Plasma Pistol/Power Sword
-Raptor with Plasma Pistol/Chainsword x2
-Raptor with Bolt Pistol/Chainsword x2
Mark of Khorne

Heldrake

Forgefiend

Yes, its not a perfect list, nor is it competitive in any way. Should be fun to play though. And more importantly, I don't have to buy any more models.

Well, I do want to get some more Chosen with Bolters to make more normal CSM squads. But that's not necessary.

I've been in a building frenzy this past week. Unfortunately, my camera is not what it once was... Flash only works when it wants too... Until I can get another camera, these are the best for now.

Lord Krannon and the CSM squad. The CSM squads are made up of the Chosen with Power Fist and 8 Chosen with Bolters. Only have 6 in this picture, more are on the way.

This is the new Finecast Sorcerer. Behind him are the two Chosen Squads and the Helbrute

Raptors (flash decided to work)

I am in the process of building the Heldrake now, should finish it tonight. I'll probably start on the Forgefiend tomorrow.

Hmm the Crimson Slaughter are supposed to be servants of Khorne and as a former SM chapter it can be a guideline to follow with some classic units like squads of 10 CSM. I would advise you to add a squad of terminators. Yes...hmm...terminators...they always look cool and act cool, gotta love them.

On a side note, I am quite pleased that the Raptors come in stock with scenic bases, and they look nice too. Gotta buy some of those beakies.

There is only the Truth. I do not know what it is, but I do believe in it!

In my research on the Crimson Slaughter, a lot of the information I've found (Lexicanum and others) states they are Undivided. They were cursed by Khorne, but in their search for a cure they pretty much turned to all the Chaos powers. Khorne does play a big role however, but I don't think they are strictly Khornate. The Chosen Champion Draznicht is a good example, he has a third eye in his forehead, which just screams Tzeentch to me. That's why most if not all of the Marks are represented in this army, to go with the Undivided theme.

One of the other goals of this army was to only use new models. To me, the older chaos models look so out of place next to the Dark Vengeance Chaos, Heldrake, Raptors and Forge/Maulerfiend. It's such a difference that it makes my OCD twitch... The CSM squads will be made up of Bolter Chosen, and I am converting a few to hold plasma guns or meltaguns.

I'd like to take some Terminators or Havocs... or Oblits... but holy crap! They really need to overhaul the line and bring it up to date... IMHO anyway.

The raptors are really nice! I want more of them!

Finished the Heldrake last night.

It's pretty bog standard. No modifications or conversion work.

It was a fun kit to assemble, even if I did have trouble getting the arms to stick...

I also got the first of 50 Cultists assembled

Well if you can convert the chosen to hold heavy weapons, you get havocs.

Easier said than done, I'm sure.

Would love too, but that might be a little tricky.

I think I can convert the Bolter Chosen to hold a Plasmagun or Meltagun. I haven't tried it yet, as I am still trying to get more Bolter Chosen...

IF I thought I could get the Forgeworld Autocannons to fit in the hands of a Bolter Chosen... I'd do it in a heartbeat!

there are some final cleaning prep I need to do, but for the most part, the army is read for priming. If the weather is nice this weekend, I should have that done soon. Over all, I am rather proud of my progress, normally it takes me far longer to accomplish what I have in just two weeks of work.

Thanks!

I'd hoped to have some primer down this weekend, but I had a tooth extraction on Friday, and homework due Sunday night. This is going to be a busy week here for me, but I hope to get something accomplished at some point. Stay tuned! This is just the beginning!

Been knocked out due to sickness, but I did manage to finish the CSM squad once
the other Chosen with Bolters came in.

Yes, that's right. I am using Chosen with Bolters to make my CSM squads. Mainly because I do not like that the
CSM models look so out of place next to the newer models... It's jarring enough to give my minor OCD fits...

But I think they turned out rather well.

IMG_0691_zpsc23d42b4.jpg

Chosen with Bolt Pistol and Power Fist is the units Aspiring Champion

IMG_0693_zps60c28a6d.jpg

I also converted two Chosen to be Plasma Gunners. These are the Plasma Guns from
the new Raptors kit.

Fantastic - great subtle conversions and reappropriation of the Chosen!

I ended up buying three sets of Dark Vengeance to support my Dark Angels addiction...

I've bought locally some extra Chosen off people who had just gotten their DV sets for the Cultists.

I also found some for decent prices off Bartertown, which those should be arriving tomorrow. I've spent maybe $40 extra and I've got roughly 7 full Chosen squads... I've got a lot of chosen left over that I'm going to see how I can convert them. I'd love to be able to get some havocs out of them. But that wont be for a while yet...

Seeing this just makes me cry that there isn't an actual multi-part plastic chosen box.  I love the new model style so much more than the old, but I don't have the time and effort to convert everything, and can't handle chorus line squads that comes with just using the bolter guys.  After seeing the new chosen, I just can't work up the desire to buy any more regular CSM bodies, or even work on the ones I already have.  If there were a proper chosen box, I'd dump all the power armored bodies in my entire army, and basically start from scratch.

I agree Mali, they do look very nice but they need a plastic kit for these and the old CSM kit just doesn't really cut it anymore without alot of conversions.

Yeah, the new Chaos models are so far and away better than the older ones it is hard for me to look at them sitting side by side... Enough so that my minor OCD makes me twitch... Compared to the chosen, normal CSM, Terminators, the Oblits and Mutilators, and the Defilers are just so dated and lackluster that I couldn't bring myself to using any of them... Those older kits REALLY need to be updated and brought into line with the Chosen, unfortunately I don't think it's ever going to happen.

I'm not happy about the Chorus line Bolter Chosen either... Even so, its better than trying to use the older models.

I actually think the Dark Vengeance models hurt the CSM line. They are so far and away superior that there is hardly anything linking the two together. They look like two separate armies...

Luckily the Dark Vengeance models, Raptors, Heldrakes and Forge/Maulerfiends all share the same aesthetic.

So, I think I am pretty happy with these fellows, and I am considering calling them done. Other than the base of course. Please take a look and offer any advice or criticism they might warrant. I've not done any painting in a long time and I can pretty much say, these are the first I've done to a mostly completed state in a very long time.

This will be a unit of 20 Chaos Cultists of Nurgle. They are meant to take and hold the closest Objective. All I am going for is tabletop quality, and trying to keep it as simple a scheme as possible since I have 20 of these fellows, and another 30 Cultists to paint as well.

Please be honest, so I can get them done. My biggest request is advice on basing these guys. I guess I need to decide on a theme for basing for the entire army to tie them all together. Thoughts?

Today was a beautiful day for priming

Other than the one remaining converted CSM squad with Meltaguns, this is all of my Crimson Slaughter Warband now primed. I've used Army Painter Dragon Red Primer.

This is the Warband as it stands:

Chaos Lord
Chaos Sorcerer
Chosen x5
Chosen x5
Raptors x5
CSM x10
CSM x10 (still building)
Cultists w/Autoguns x20
Cultists x10
Cultists x10
Cultists x9
Helbrute
Forgefiend
Heldrake

I am a bit annoyed... I seem to have lost a Cultist... One of the Melee Cultists...

Now, I just need to figure out a way to convert the many Chosen I have left over into Havocs... hmmm.....
