Heh, thanks man. Well. I've finally gotten over my fear of painting. My modeling work may not be the best but it's certainly my own personal unique painting style and im rather proud of it. That being said, I've always wanted a fully painted army to start fielding at my LGS, so why not?

what red are you using? it still looks too pinkish to me.

Uhhhh Pinkish?... Its Wazdakka Red with a Nuln Oil wash.

It does have a pinkish tinge which is most probably due to the white undercoat. That said, it doesn't look bad at all. However, if you want to make the red a tad deeper, perhaps consider washing the armour with some Carroburg Crimson?

Anyway, good luck with your pledge and I look forward to the next update :smile.:

Ok, so, not so much an update as it is a mandatory update, here is the pictures for my first vow entry, Dark Disciple Zerrith. A simple note is after I took the new pictures, I decided to add just a small bolter feed at the bottom of his combi-bolter to make it seem more like an actual combi-weapon (even if it is infused to his arm)

I'm quite happy with it as it is, if im honest.

Well, that's the most important thing, in my mind. Besides, I was only suggesting a potential change, nothing more :smile.:

By the way, that Dark Apostle makes me want to run away and hide in a corner (well, almost). Great stuff

  • 4 weeks later...

Hail to the Ruined King, Brothers and Sisters.

Its been a while. Life has been keeping me busy and a lack of inspiration along with looking in excitement for starting my Sons of Horus army has kept me away from 40k for a bit. But I'm back, newly inspired by various things and eager to put some stuff out.

So first up is an update for my Dark Apostle. More paint, I know, right?

Vow Entry 1 Update 2

Next up is a bit of an addition to my piece, a Maulerfiend. Now unlike most, I like the model. It still has some more bitz and bobs to give my personal flare to it but over all I'm keeping it basically the same. The only major difference I have for the model is I wish to have his eyes sealed off, making him blind. Might seem strange but I think it makes the model all the scarier. Take a look for yourselves, forgive the poor picture quality.

The next piece was done as a small side paint job, just to get the blood flowing and test out an idea that's been filtering through my head. I may or may not go completely through with it, haven't decided. Now in the Massacre book, there's a company of Night Lords known as the Crimson Sons. I know a few others like me have taken a shine to them and we all seem to have our own take on them. Now what drew me into them was most importantly 1. the blood coming from the eyes (which strikes me as very Cthulhu-esque/Zalgo/many other love craftian horrors) but also opens up Night Lords being alongside a more human element, a Rogue Trader which can expose them to the darker things in the galaxy. So I'll be toying around with this a bit more, see if I still like it or not later and if I don't I'll scrap it. But for now, here you go.

Lighting needs some work, but enjoy.

I quite like it, but if you want take it a step further, painting the white a little thinner over a light blue (Ice Blue maybe?) may be worth trying. If you need a finer brush, art stores have a huge selection and are generally cheaper.

Cheers,

Jono

the lightning, less is more. you only need a couple of dashes of white inside what you've already got. Don't streak white down the entire bolt that already is painted on, that'll look super 2d and not as great. Just a dash here and there to show dome depth on the armor and it'll work.

My only other suggestion would be to use some ink. Black, between armor, trim, segments, whatever. it really breaks the model and colors up and lends well to creating depth and definition. A little ink line between two pieces of leg armor, or shoulderpad trim, or gauntlets will do wonders.

Keep pushing it. It looks like you dived out of your comfort zone and landed somewhere you like and can work with. Keep trying new things.

@Dan- Good to see you back around, man. We should catch up again some time on Xbox when we have the chance. I'll give the suggestions a try when I have the chance to clean up the model. New paint scheme idea I have for the shoulder pad I'd like to apply

@Disease- Wounded Guardsman is from the old metal Imperial Guard Command Squad. I've had it lying around and I thought it would be kind of cool. I plan to add some guardsman corpses and body parts on the base aswell, sort of showing that the Mauler fiend slaughtered the entire squad and is now hunting for the lone survivor, sniffing him out.

So, as promised, I did a clean up of my Night Lord. Also, decided that I will NOT be going with Crimson Sons, rather taking the ideas I had for them and using it on an entirely separate Company. As far as the paint scheme going, I'm very proud of how he turned out, especially on the Lightning touchups. Please let me know what you guys think.
