Today in the hobby I....

Dude, TheWarriorhunter, those are starting to really come along nice, mate! Seriously can't wait to see what you whip up for the full finished pod (Oh how I hate building those things).

Heyas, Flint&Steel, man, good choice on picking up Kill Team. My game group expanded a scary amount thanks to it and I even suckered in a few players who said they were "done with GW" and now are baying for more, too. It's a good'n Just remember you an beef up the numbers a bit even with 75 points to get some 'ranked' specialists, lv.2 and 3. My 'Death Guard' Breacher squads have been doing pretty great by it. BEtter show us those 3E ruins too, eh! (When I'm not at home my major hobby 'hosts' have a bunch of that 3E stuff too back from, I want to say when Codex: Cityfight was still a thing).

Eeeeh I hang around here most of the time. I got a sort of 'finished' section in my banner link for the 65, and a spot I'm working through over in the 30K section. yay links. Thanks a ton, mate.

Isn't it kinda scary that a group like Fulkes ends up making other people say, "Want it, need it" and go all in? -sighs, looking at about 50 genestealer cultists from the Kill Team starter sets- Heh, they look great, dude :smile.:

Aaaalright, TitH, I finished up another pinnacle unit for me: something I kept in the box for a time when I ran out of actual units and got to finally put together as they aren't my usual colour scheme. Thus, the veteran survivors of the 64th company, a call back to the Visions of Heresy group, and what I did after running through the power axes of a FW set. Big note, I hate freehanding anything and I'll likely have to extend two of the power fists to be lightning claws to vit the 30K vet unit.

-laughs- thanks mate, do appreciate it eh?

Now that weird empty feeling of 'what's next?' I haven't a clue where the 65th is headed after this: I'm down to a 4 man command squad and 2 apothecaries before I have to make a decision.

TITH I helped my son paint his Primaris marines by drybrushing them, then blocked out most of the main colours when he was in bed. Not looking bad considering the armour was actually painted by a 7 year old.

Also painted the armour on a converted captain. The armour came out a little lighter (slightly heavier hand, i think) but I reckon he'll look ok with the other colours added.

Really having trouble motivating myself to paint the two infantry squads I need for the next jump in the slow grow league.

Been there. Sometimes I tell myself I'm just going to sit and force myself to do ONE thing, even if it's minuscule. Lots of times I find myself doing much more, but I had to make myself sit down to get started.

Can't wait to see them despoilers, Sarbando! White Scars always rock :) They're massively under-represented, which is a total shame.

Eeeey, Robwrath, yeah not bad. Noooot bad (Looks better than when I was painting armour at, like 12-14 at least). Fun colours too. Aye, the captain's colours look a bit lighter, but that's generally perfectly fine for heroes, right? Gotta stand out a bit (I usually just make the bases bigger, heroes are like birds, they like perching on things).

Zhiv, veeeery nice, what legio you goin' for?

MrZakalwe, yeah WarriorHunter's got the long and the short of it there. But keep at them troops, they're one of those things that feels like it pays off in the long term!

As for me, TitH, I finished up my two legion apothecaries. Couldn't stand the IV drip on the mk. II (aaaah mk.II armour), so I replaced it with one of the little targeting bobs I had clipped from a Rapier gunner.

Thanks Vykes. They are called Rock Marines and are turquoise because that's his favourite colour. I agreed to paint them like that thinking it'd look terrible, but was surprised how good it looks. Colour scheme (turquoise, blue and gold) is completely his own design. It's also fun because being completely new to the 40k universe he has loads of bonkers ideas. Like, he wanted his Captain to have a melta-melta combi weapon. I couldn't say no! He also wants the Chief Librarian of his Chapter to ride a dragon. I'm struggling to say no to that too, because it sounds awesome!

And the armour genuinely looks better drybrushed than the Space Wolves I spent hours over back in the day. Got the idea from a Dave Andrews interview in WD - he drybrushes all his Ultramarines and they look great. The secret, apparently, is to use a really wide brush.

Also, tith I had a first go and posing one of my to-be Berserker Terminators. I've made him a pair of Khorney Lighting Claws with some cataphractii claws with Gorefist bits to Chaos them up a bit. Thoughts?

Heck yes!

That paint scheme looks really good.

It's something "fresh" and pristine. Fits Primaris really well.

Also his ideas sound amazing, as ridiculous as they may be. This whole universe is ridiculous and his creativity can think of things that fit right in. Please help him realize such ideas - and please continue to show us his progress!

Can't wait to see what happens once he gets into full kitbashing and greenstuff modelling and the like :D

Ayyy, it's all good, RobWrath, mate. Rock marines are gonna always get a Megaman thought in my head, and that's pretty great. Hey, turquoise is definitely an awesome colour. Mix it with blue, sure he doesn't like Alpha Legion? -smirks- it's a good design, and in 40K bonkers ideas are usually pretty great (and a startling amount of both early Rogue Trader stuff and the Vehicle Design Rules... and most Ork conversions on a good day). Melta melta combi weapon... twin-linked melta gun, kinda awesome. And a Dragon...

-thinks about that for a very long while- All I want to say is 'using the stats of a blood angels Librarian dreadnought, that's totally doable'. (Seriously, with the Wings of Sanguinius, you even get fly) I kinda love it myself. If Wolves can ride dogs, librarians can ride dragons.

-laughs- nice, very nice. I can believe that, using a wide brush and soft bristles. Man, I know a few people who can drybrush well but I just can't do it (too impatient) so airbrush and sponge for me. But you can get some great effects both ways (my friends space wolves are drybrushed and look incredible as he's also scary precise at it).

Berserker termies, very cool. I'm a fan of the fists, the gorefists and cataphractii claws fit right in. Indomitus pattern terminator armour will always get me to look at the head saying, “Something's off.” I think it'll be fine once it's coloured up. Honestly, for Khorne that just works. Beyond adding some Black Legion style spike trophies on the back, it's good, dude.

TitH, I worked on some AoS, slowly working through my command staff for the 65th, and placed a pre-order for Blackstone, then kinda placed an order for 3 marine speeders and a javelin for my Blood Angels.

Well, Fr33dom, Jukkiz, you'll be getting us pictures riiiiiight? -smirks-

I was just going to let him use the same rules as a Helldrake. With a Baleflamer, obvs.

Thanks for the feedback, which leads me on to...

TITH I assembled the full squad. They will be covered is mismatched spikes and trophies when finished (not the generic trophy racks - too obvious!), but this will be the general vibe of the squad.

Can't wait to see em, Fr33dom mate!

Chaoself, you got some pictures of them Mordians for us, dude? It's been a while since we saw those glorious stiffnecked lads.

RobWrath, veeery nice. See, termies like that really do look unique, very post-heresy chaos. Mismatched spikes and Catty claws are gonna look great on em!

How are those quick-build guardsmen boxes, Lord Raven? I've never actually seen or touched one but I remember the Cadian boxes pretty good. They the same sprue?

TitH, I managed to do up almost all of the rest of my command squad (and got some extras to switch out.) Just gotta finish some stone, clean up the rope, and add some metal shading. Which will be great after they're done drying.

Got a random captain I made up, too. Realized it's nice to have a champion sort of thing around. -sighs- wish I'd have done his cloak red but meh.

yesterday in the hobby,.....

I managed to find on the shelf copies of conquest magazine with lieutenant Calsius, librarian and the blight hauler. tempted to go back and get a couple more of the librarian and lieutenant ones as conversion fodder.

I also, against my better judgement ended up in a GW store and 'chanced' a couple of SM heroes boxes (which I'd decided previously I wouldn't be buying ever) and got the sergeant and bolter marine changing the clip. Quite happy with both of these.

Wow, those guys look great.

Forgive my ignorance but are they 30k, and what legion are they? I notice XV on the pauldrons but googles says thats the Thousand Sons.

Not tempted to repaint that captain with a red cloak so it matches?

TITH I picked up Conquest issue 11 - my friendly local newsagent is happy to order me the copies I want, whenever. So, cool.

Also ordered a classic metal Kroxigor! My son and I have decided to get Blood Bowl, and he's not happy playing Orcs or Humans, he's decided he wants to play Lizardmen. I'm planning to buy some old plastics super cheap and cut the weapons off. Easy win.

Opinions required - I'm starting to properly assemble the Khorne terminator assault squad as I've pictured above. I'm not going to use the usual chaos termi trophy racks - don't think they suit and it feels like an easy option. I also want to make the squad sergeant stand out.

So far, he's different from the other guys as he has a chainfist and power axe (the other guys have pairs of lightning claws) and he also doesn't have a bunny-ear helmet (it's a bit of a theme through my army so far that the commanders and sergeants have chaos knight-style helmets).

I also want the squad to have a Khorne icon mounted on one of their backs, to count as the Banner of Wrath.

So, do I put the Khorne icon on the sergeant to kill two birds with one stone (it'd give him the most vertical height out of the squad), or do I put some kind of unique trophy on the sergeant, and put the icon on another member of the squad?

I can't decide.
