Today in the hobby I....

Haven't made real progress on the Forgemother (still deciding on colors for her) but TITH I got some more metal paints in (been collecting the full Vallejo Metal Color Range) and Steel (which is a dark grey color like Iron Warriors or maybe Iron Hands, I didn't do a side by side to double check) plus two coats of Basilicanum Grey seems to finally have dialed in a "black steel" look I wanted:

Yeah, yeah, it's not pure black, but a shiny dark metal works for what I want.

YATITH, I picked up a paint brush for the first time in what feels like ages and pushed forward with getting my Firstborn Black Templars painted. I'm aiming for 750 points of fully-painted Templars by the end of the month.

After painting two Initiates and a Rhino, I now have a 100% complete Crusader Squad with its dedicated transport unit:

Side note: this is the first time since starting this hobby about 15 years ago that I've managed to 100% complete a unit. Chuffed to bits. :biggrin.:

That's excellent! They look great too. It's just a shame they're about to get krumped

Been working on Grey Knights lately but my proudest bit of hobby progress has to be getting the Forgemother wired up and ready for priming. Left the a couple parts off and didn't glue her to the base for painting. She uses parts from the Lord Discordant, Mini-Morathi, Zombie Dragon, Syll'Eske and Sisters of Slaughter kits.

That thing is HORRIBLE in the best ways possible, she must have so many suitors and admirers among the Dark Mechanicum and other varieties of Chaos forces...

Painted up this fella to try a much more muted/lighter sea green. Scared to mess it up with weathering and battle damage haha.

Clean. Very clean. Almost a shame to weather it... ...but you should do a special unit or some such in that very clean, pristine tone!

Welcome to the Hobby then!? So now you're a full fledged hobbyist, I'd say!

Love how the unit looks all energetic and eager to shoot and chop at the Orks, meanwhile your Sword-Brother just calmly grips his Axe, ready to unleash his Zeal.

Also going very Black-White focused for the units and the Rhino, makes the Sword Brother really stand out so much more, which is very fitting. Love it!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Meanwhile I finished this lovely lady today:

Probably will find some tiny things here and there to touch up on, but in general, I am quite happy with how she turned out.

But now, what next to do!?

YITHI won a Combat Patrol Crusade game against Night Lords with my Khansu Reawoken crusade force. Writeup can be found here! Had a lot of fun, and my opponent did too, despite some...shall we say unlikely? Circumstances.

Been working on a dirty, worn black armour I'm calling "Crusade Ready" because my brain can never stop circling back to dirty and worn looking Astartes. Three slightly different angle pictures to show off the "exposed metal" part of the chipping around the edge as it's a subtle effect that has to catch the light:

Basecoat: Abbadon Black
All Over Drybrush: Corvus Black (this leaves the purest black in the recesses)
Directional Drybrush: Skavenblight Dinge (Top down motion only, helps brighten top surfaces with a warm grey with a touch of brown in it)
Filter Wash: Agrax Earthshade
Chipping: Dawnstone
Final Chipping: Sharpened Pencil

For millennia the Iron Saints have continued their procession across the stars, defending Imperial frontiers from all manner of xenos, apostates, and unspeakable horrors. The chapter maintains vigilance over the vital shipping corridors and Extract Worlds in a region of space known as Solomun's Veil, upholding what tenuous authority the Imperium claims to wield at the farthest edges of the galaxy. In their pursuit to ensure the critical supply of raw materials remains constant to feed the unending appetite of the Imperial war machine, the Iron Saints hold no dominion over a home-world in favor of a completely fleet-based existence. Centuries of crucial yet unglamorous service crushing rebellious mining colonies or destroying xenos incursions against Imperial convoys laden with all manner of exotic and precious material has developed into a force which excels in the claustrophobic confines of brutal void-borne combat and mechanized planetary assaults.

I feel it's missing the point when I compliment your model bases for the BFG ships, they are really eye-catching and well executed. Don't get me wrong, the ships are painted neatly and  like the results there too but the bases have served as a better canvas for your creativity. I find it hard for a painter to stand out on a BFG ship due to their design. Good work over all though. :)

That squad is very retro: love it!

TITH, I have a 750-point game-legal and fully-painted army for the first time in approx. 15 years of Warhammer hobby:

Need to complete a Razorback, a single jump pack Initiate, and a jump pack Chaplain to hit 1000 points and be ready for my game on Friday. :D

TiTHI finally have something to contribute to 40k! After working on a Blood Bowl team I've finally got them varnished and off the to-do list so I have got my 20 plastic Krieg undercoated.  I am very pleased with the finish of the Scale 75 lack undercoat, and no jamming my airbrush like that Vallejo stuff. I've mainly just picked all the specialists and then filled out the rest with lasguns. I've been dreading getting to the recesses on those models but I think they won't be too bad to paint after all. I'm aiming for a quick paint job on mine this time but I currently don't know how I want them painted. Sadly there isn't a Krieg infantryman on impcat yet and I think I'd need to learn how to use graphics package before I could understand the tutorial to make compatible files for impcat to recognise. Perhaps I should just print off some greyscale swatches and test them with real paints.

YITHI played my first game of 40k in over a decade with someone from my local club. It's certainly a different game than I remember, and certainly seems a lot more lethal than what I can remember from 4th/5th edition. I've also decided to paint up the Dark Angels from my old Dark Vengeance set, since I've been binging on Space Hulk Deathwing in the last couple of weeks.

TiTHI got a new phone. The camera has a macro setting, hopefully I will be producing better photographs in the future. For some reason impcat doesn't seem to like loading colour palettes and svg files properly, or recognising them once they are inserted into the correct folders. I've been working on my Kiil Team Krieg guys for the last few days. I think I will upload some photos soon.

TitHI received my copy of Chalnath.

What a nice big box! Also a big fan of the lack of plastic wrap on it (I know I'm buying plastic but at least I'm not intending on disposing of that).

Really happy to finally have some Sector Imperialis terrain. Definitely think I'm going to start a T'au army (meaning coming back to 40K after many years) and I may even keep the Sisters around though still not sure on them.

Now GW, put up Sector Imperialis terrain for general re-release!

TITH I am stressing out because I have no clue how I want to transport my black templars. Some reason I don't know if my refrigerator magnets on the bottom of a base will connect fully to my cookie sheet transports...

I probably need to find a sheet of metal or two to fit inside a box.
