Cheers LM, at the moment I'm thinking drop pod assault and air superiority in the form of storm talons and maybe a raven in the future. My thinking with the drop pods is that, just like the silver skulls, they await the omens of the prognosticator to be favourable before committing their forces. Hence a state of alertness ready to deploy at a moments notice. It also emulates how birds of prey strike, spoting their target from above and perform a diving strike. I'm trying to stay away from jump infantry as I don't want them to be seen as a blood angels successor.

It has just occurred to me that the silver skulls are very spartan in their waiting for the portents to say that it is ok to attack.

I quite like the less 'bright' colourschemes, keep em grim dark. Would like to see a guy painted up like this.

The founding does matter, this is a new founding, the 27th ( since the last stated one is the 26th). If you already have a IA/fledgling chapter that you want to flesh out that's cool.

Bugger, I didn't read that My Amber Dragons are 12th Founding. Give me a bit and I'll try and come up with a new, new Chapter to enter this with!

Gentlemen, congratulations on some great work so far :). I've managed to get most of my background nailed down, and here is a taste of what im working on while awaiting my painting supplies;

 

Shields of Myrmidon.
The Shields of Myrmidon were created under the 27th founding in response to an Imperial Tarot reading proclaiming a "great and ancient danger unknown; it returns from beyond the Western Veil as it did before Man first divined the stars".  Reports of horrifying encounters with previously unrecorded space hulks (such as the massive "Donum Mortibus") and the discovery of chaos-worshipping human and Xeno populations soon reached the High Lords of Terra.

Veteran Sergeant of the second company.

 

It was called "Lan'raydah", and it was  a thing not seen in his lifetime. It was the burden-beast of the Daemons, and he was standing inside its mouth.
 He looked at the Daemons again. The black one had a skull for a head, and wore a chain decorated with human skulls looped around his waist. The chain was as  long as a warrior was tall, and would be immensely valuable during trading season - the Daemon could buy 3 hunting ships, the warriors to work them and the next four seasons hunting rights for his tribe.

In awe, R'aktos and the Daemons travelled impossibly far under the very waves his tribe braved on there hunting rafts, but most baffingly of all; they dived down amongst the monsters instead of avoiding them.

Soon he saw them on what the black daemon had named a S'kreen. Ten legged monsters that broke the suface to attack fishing boats and take warriors to the deepest reaches with them. Only down here they displayed a gentleness, a gracefullness. There murderous aggression was gone, and they moved slowly in what could only be called "play".

Children. The thought hit him hard. The monstrous things were as alive as he was, concerned only with breeding rights and access to there childrens feeding and spawning grounds. He knew then, in that instant; the tribes best sons would be gifted to the Daemons to protect the Deeps of the Stars in His name, just as Marianos Goddess of the Deeps would continue to provide food and material to the tribes through the monsters seasonal spawning and death.
To hold a secret like this; one that showed the balance of nature and its forces so completely - that was the mark and special wisdom of Marianos herself.
R'aktos hoped his son would be taken by the daemons. 

   
Only through death would the Father beyond the Stars provide life, and only Marianos' Sons could be trusted to met out a fair share to her people.
The trade would be completed, as was his sacred duty as hetman  just like his grandfather and his grandfather before him. His first son would be taken by the Daemons in exchange for protection from beyond the stars.

A very good deal indeed, R'aktos thought.

 

 

 

 

So theres the start - Novamarines successors, paladins using swords and spears with honour shields, Oceanic world populated with neolithic tribes and giant killer quid that they hunt like the Inuit hunt whale.

He hated this armour. He hated how it looked, he hated how it felt, he hated it’s stench,

and most of all he hated Lord Cypher for making him wear it. This was not his armour, his
meticulously maintained armour was hidden away, awaiting his return for five long, long years.

Soon. Soon his mission would be over and he could rid himself of this traitorous stench.

 

Although he hated Lord Cypher, he understood the importance of the mission, those bastards

of his father’s gene-line, the ‘Loyalists’, those that call themselves the ‘Unforgiven’, must not be

allowed to secure a new Chapter. Especially here, so close to the focus of Lord Cypher’s current

machinations. He had been sent as a lone warrior to ‘defect’ to the Iron Warrior warband of

Warsmith Kinsda, to bring the warband to this 27^th Founding Chapters designated homeworld,

and prepare an ambush the new and inexperienced Chapter would be ill-equipped to deal with.

 

Even now, the Iron Warrior vessel was preparing to exit warp space, they estimated one full year

to prepare for this new Chapter’s arrival, these ‘Thousand Blades’. The Iron Warriors would be

covertly establishing hidden bases within the moons of the system. One team, the Warsmith’s section

would be deploying to the planet itself, their specific plans unknown.

“COMTACT” droned the servitor. Right on schedule thought Company Master Sendar, Master of the

Thousand Blades 3^rd Battle Company, Commander of the Fleet. “It’s seems our Grand Master’s
divinations are spectacularly accurate, all ships remain hidden, engage ambush on my mark”.

 

The Blades believed they had the favour of The Emperor himself, they could do no wrong it seemed. Their

short history of but five years as a functional, full strength Chapter is filled with improbable victories,

impossible survivals and miraculous discoveries. This fortune comes from the divinations of the Chapters

Librarium, the most accurate of all, Chapter Master, and Chief Librarian Arathys. This invasion by the Iron

Warriors was divined 47 years prior, their second year on their new homeworld. This was one of their

fortunate events. They had arrived just under 50 years prior to their departure from Mars, finding the hardy

people of the system particularly compatible with their geneseed, resulting in fewer failures and a rapid

ascent to a full strength Chapter.

 

These recollections were for another time, ‘Mark’, Master Sendar sent through the vox. His display lit up

as the vessels in his fleet powered up within the asteroid belt of the outer system. They had allowed the Iron

Warrior fleet to progress though the belt unmolested, allowing the Blades’ ships first volleys to disable the

larger vessels.

“CONTACT”, garbled the not quite human servitor. “IRON MARAUDER DISABLED”.

 

“CONTACT”. “MALICIOUS INTENT DESTROYED”.

The reports rolled in. The ship violently shuddered, it’s power lost. The Blades knew, how could they have known?

They shouldn’t even be here. He knew it was probably too late to escape, but he also knew of the Warsmith’s secret,

prized possession, a captured Storm Eagle, taken from a defeated Raven Guard ship, more than 5,000 years prior.

He would escape, he would return to Lord Cypher, he would punch him in the face for this.
