Couple of questions:

I understand I can't switch from IA to LA to UM between vows but can I change Chapters between vows as long as I stay in IA?

Whats the stance on variant lists? If I start with C:SM for my vow, can I use the list from the Siege Assault Vanguard for another vow?

@ Aquilanus: A Cold One? Really? pirate.gif Bring it on - as long as you 40k-fy it. Remember Fantasy minis are not allowed in B&C - and this has nothing to do with the ETL, it's board rules. So as long as you convert it to some sort of Exodite pet that has room in the 40k Univerese and add all the strorm bolters and bionics - sure go ahead.

Thanks for the clarification ^_^ I asked as I wanted to see if it was okay before I decide on using the bitz for a vow further down the line. If it's okay, I'll assemble the model and pm you the picture to ensure that it passes muster before I make any vow based on it official. I'm not sure how to make it more 40k at the moment, but hopefully I'll think of something ;)

What about a FW Lucius Pattern drop pod for Bjorn the Fel-handed as it is the only way he can get a drop pod?  Can I use a normal drop pod as the counts-as and use the 65 65point cost from FW or do I use the regular drop pod cost of 35pts and then just pretend that Bjorn can use it?

Since I'm completely new to this forum, I initially thought that this was some external UK/US event that you have to devote your weekend to. Glad I decided to take a peek at a vow whilst on my downtime at work..!

I've given the thread a good look over: basically, I've started up a completely clean slate (I sold all of my miniatures a few years back in order to have a completely fresh start) with the Dark Angels. Rules/history/fluff aside, I've pretty much got NO models even primed or even legal so seeing as there'll be a ton of models that I have to make a solid army, I'm very enthusiastic about this event..! (and it'll give me motivation to socialise, work on the hobby and work towards a goal! Just like the intention of the event!)

Just to completely clarify:

- Taking say, Azrael and a relevant Command Squad counts as two vows or one..? (If I read right, it should be two seperate entries but I keep thinking back to Dedicated Transports rule - effectively making a Deathwing Squad essentially an 800 point vow (and at around £100, that's nuts...))

- A Techmarine and his Servitors count as one vow - but the restriction in order to take a Techmarine is based on already having one HQ unit already. I might be taking this a little bit too literally... but again, if I was to pick Azrael, would this then allow me to tack on the Command Squad, Techmarine and the Techmarine's Servitors as a single Vow..? (I seriously hope not... that's a lot of points in one go...)

I've seen Vows that are something like: "I vow Two Riflemen" as a single vow. This is two separate entries in the Codex and two slots in the Force Organisation Chart.

...

Bah, I should learn to read:

3. LEGAL ENTRIES: Each vow should be one or more legal units from your chosen Codex.

Okay, time to get some theory in place - deadline is 15th of August..? School is out on the 14th of June for me so that means I'll be full time unemployed - lesson plans can wait until after the 15th then!

How many potential vows can I bombard this thread before you get sick of my empty promises fully committing to them, I wonder... lol

Would this be okay/legal/worth 500 points in this event..?

HQ: 75 points

  • Librarian
  • Auspex
  • Storm Bolter
  • Troops: 250 points
  • Tactical Squad
  • Additional 5 men
  • Flamer
  • Plasma Cannon
  • Power Weapon
  • Razorback
  • Twin Linked Assault Cannon
  • Scout Squad
  • Additional 5 men
  • 5 Camo Cloaks
  • 4 Shotguns
  • 4 Sniper Rifles
  • Missile Launcher
  • Flakk Missiles
  • Power Weapon
  • Storm Bolter

Thanks..!

Right,

First of all please note that showing explicit point values for each and every item is not recommended in B&C. What you sould do is to make a list of the items (with no points) and just show the total for each unit. If you have a query about points, by all means PM me.

And yes your conversion is legal for ETL. Just price them as items that can be legally given to your troops.

Good luck with your vow - don't forget to submit it to the approriate strategium.

captain semper  ? HOW DO i do the link from my vow post to my wip thread

Right, First copy the url of your WIP thread. Just select the url right click it and select copy. Then go to your vow thread, and do the following: on the menu bar above there is a small icon of a chainlink with a green "+" symbol. click it and paste the url that you have copied previously.

Let me know if you have problems.

@ Malus Trux: Yes you can paint your minis anything you like. Even UMs! But your vow will still count for IA!

@ Aquilanus: By all means do. But be warned: If it burns my retina I'm sending you the bill!

@ Brother Ramses: I beleive the Lucius Drop Pod is a 40k approved (and allowed for SWs) no? I can't see a problem using it... good luck!

Thanks for the prompt reply! I'll get to work on that vow!

Ohhh... I just peeked through the forum rules and found out about this - may I ask why this is..? (Because it infringes copyrights..? Directly copying it straight into a post could make some people not need to buy the codexes etc.?)

So in other words I could Vow a unit that's Codex-legal for my BTs but paint them as, say, Crimson Fists? How about painting say, Darnath Lysander in his proper IF colors given that WYSIWYG-wise his miniature can be created in the BT Codex (so prices etc would obviously be from C:BT, but model+color "the real thing")? Seems "legit" based on what's been said so far, even though not quite "loyal to your chapter" tongue.png

I would like to double check something regarding count-as, just to be on the safe side.

I intend to try my luck again this time around, with a smaller entry. I'd like to vow an Emperor's Champion model, painted in Ultramarines colours, as a count-as C:SM Captain with a Relic Blade, and no other upgrades. This is also how I'd field the model if I ever get around to actually playing the game.

All wargear except for grenades will be visible on the model.

I'd assume this is acceptable, but I just want to make sure.

Thanks.

Query - I've been on a massive Dark Eldar kick recently (heresy, I know!) and having finished them I've noticed that my painting has improved massively. As a result, I'm considering stripping and repainting some of my less good Blood Angels. If I do so, I need to know two things.

1) Is that allowed, or should I be starting with fresh models from scratch? And if it is permitted

2) How should I post the progress pics? Do I start with them stripped to bare plastic, or do I begin with them as they are now, then take a shot of them stripped, then WIP shots?

+EDIT+ Oh, and I picked up Tyberos, the Red Wake when I was down at WHW this weekend - I'm assuming I can't paint him for my BA vow, but would I be allowed to have him as a non-competition entry as well as my actual vow on behalf of the Blood Angels?

1. Allowed! Provided you effectively paint them from scratch I don't mind at all if they were painted something else at some point in their life...

2. The more shots the better! I will encourage you to start your own WIP thread and just put tons of pics in it! :D But if you want to go for the bare minimum then I'd say the stripped down minis would be a better starting point.

3. Tyberos? Well, I think he'll make a excellent BA Captain with eccentric, custom made Lightning Claws... What do you think? ;) Even if he comes in non BA colors. :o As far as out-of -competition stuff go, of course you can enter anything you want as out-of-competition. Anything provided it abides with B&C rules that is... ;) But I think Tyberos can find his way into your BA vow...

Good luck - the BAs could use some boosting right now...

=][= FIRST WEEKLY UPDATE =][=

http://www.fortressoftheunforgiven.com/ETL_2013_Poster_00.jpg

Well, here we go – the first weekly update. :D

What can I say! The involvement so far is breathtaking! In just a week we have 181 participants – and the acceptance period will remain open for another three weeks! Furthermore the amount of points pledged is just huge – 157k pts so far and counting! Just of give you some perspective, in the first week last year we got 111 participants that have pledged “only” 42.5k points between them! So yes, a 63% increase in participants and 270% increase in points pledged! Wow.

But apart from those, admittedly impressive, stats what really matters for this year’s ETL is the relative performance of each forum. The more significant metric in this stage of the event is the number participants each forum can recruit. So I give you the snapshot of the end of the first week:

E TENEBRAE LUX II - Week 1
Black Templars 23 23 29,250 0 0%
Blood Angels 23 23 22,317 0 0%
Dark Angels 35 37 26,106 1,190 4.6%
Codex Chapters 39 39 31,232 490 1.6%
Space Wolves 11 11 10,708 0 0%
Chaos Legios 29 30 17,361 240 1.4%
Vive Imperium 14 14 13,495 0 0%
Horus Heresy 8 8 6,799 0 0%

So let’s see this one by one:

BLACK TEMPLARS
True to form the BTs, although not very many (not very few either) have pledged a hefty amount of points having the largest average vow so far at 1,272pts. This is a VERY large average vow – but it underlines the attitude BTs generally have in this challenge which is: “bring it on”. However, and this is very important, if you let your rivals to collect significantly more resources that yourselves you may put yourself in an unwinnable situation. So recruit and then recruit some more! Until June 15th that’s the standing order!

BLOOD ANGELS

An enthusiastic start! I sure hope you can follow it through though because I’m sensing a slowdown of momentum… You have as many participants as the BTs so you’re still very much in the game just keep your recruiting momentum going! The lower amount of pledged points compared to the BTs should not, in itself, be a point of concern at this stage. If anything, a smaller average vow means higher chance of completion.

DARK ANGELS

Well, you are in a very good position right now. Not only you have a significant amount of participants, head and shoulders above the BTs and the Bas, but you also have a reasonably sized average vow and even a few completions! This is the model other factions should aspire too. In fact the only other faction that has a similar performance up to now is the Codex Chapters! Keep it up and you’ll be in a very good position to claim first position!

CODEX CHAPTERS

This was an pleasant surprise. The Codex faction has been mobilizing to great effect! The locomotive is of course the Index Astartes forum with 20 participants and 16.7k points! The UMs stand beside them with another 10 participants and the Liber with 9. However the picture is a bit different when we look at it from a points perspective. Here the UMs have the smallest contribution with 4.5pts while the Liber has an impressive 10k of which more than half is a single vow! This is so far the largest single vow in the ETL of 5,645pts (yes Lord Lee I’m looking at you)! However, the largest contributor in points (as well as participants) for the Codex faction is again the Index with 16.7kpts. Excellent performance so far but keep recruiting!

SPACE WOLVES

Here things are not very active. The brave Wolf Lords that have taken up the challenge are doing an excellent job but the fang leave them unsupported. With only 11 participants it seems that there is a considerable disadvantage building up… C’mon Wolves, last year you managed 3rd position, can’t you do an even better performance this year? YOU NEED MORE RECRUITS!!! The recent appearance of last year’s Champion of Champions may change this – let’s hope so!

CHAOS LEGIOS

A very, very nice performance so far. You’ve got a reasonable amount of recruits and you also managed the first completion of the event (HJL msn-wink.gif) But there is a concern… the low average vow. Not a big concern mind you in this stage of the event – just something that you’ll need to address going forward. Right now the most important thing is recruitment and you’re doing fine with 29 participants. Good progress guys – keep it up!

VIVE IMPERIUM

Well this is a new faction that comprises of all the different Imperial forces… Here we have the SoBs with the most participants [7] and the IG with the most points [7.8k]. The Grey Knights with only one participation so far (and one promise) has some room for improvement, but the sole participant so far is an ex-First Legion Champion – one of the very best! And it’s still early in the day… hopefully GKs will show a stronger presence going forward. I have high hopes for the Mechanicum which has only one participant so far BUT did you see the new FW stuff? If they become available during the life of the ETL I bet many would wish to have pledged for the Mechanicum then… biggrin.png So just a unit of Thallax now might allow you a cohort of Castellax! ohmy.png

HORUS HERESY

Another new arrival, the HH forum started off cautiously, but I’m confident more will join as new stuff will be coming out of FW! A small party it may be but a determined one it seems! Interestingly their average vow of 850pts is spot on the average of the ETL… So reasonable vowing – all you have to do is build up your numbers a bit!

So until next week, keep the new recruits coming!!! biggrin.png

Thanks for the update semper!

One question. as ive made a vow, can i effectively ignore the june 15 cut off point now? Or will i not be able to start another vow after this date? I assume because ive started it wont affect me, but just want to be sure.

Cheers and let me thank you now for all the hard work youve already put into this :-)
