THE SHADOWS OF MYSIS

The Chapter that was never meant to be

A United Chapter Blog of Noctus Cornix and 1000 Heathens

We're Sorry in Advance

We are the desperate who do not care,

We are the tired who cannot sleep.

We are the hungry who do not eat,

We are the hated who cannot leave.

We are the suffering who do not scream,

We are the dead who cannot speak.

We are the broken who do not cease.

We are the tearless who cannot weep.

-Ancient Terran scripture 'Vagabonds', source Unknown

Welcome, brothers and sisters, to yet another long and probably over the top Army Logs. This time, we're taking part in a nifty little idea started by our brother Lamentermarine and his awesome 'The Emperor Needs You' group project. While this was originally something I had come up with just as a little side project, I turned to my good friend Heathens for his guidance and it quickly devolved into a nearly 3 hour long phone call. Its safe to say that this Chapter is now both of our twisted little child and something we're very committed to. Rather than create two separate threads to follow our individual armies, we will have one standing and united chapter thread in which we will both post our models, lists, stories, lore, and just whatever else we feel like post. We do sincerely hope you enjoy what we have to offer and thank you for your time and support.

To make it up to you guys, I'll lay some foundations to give you guys a bit of an understanding as to where we're going with these guys. One thing I would like to point out first is that this chapter is a very late descendant of the Dark Angels chapter. However, you will find virtually no connection between these guys and their founding chapter. Infact we plan on making these guys using the standard Space Marines Codex. There's nothing honor-bound about this rag tag band of broken murderers and they fight something very akin to what you would see in the Raven Guard (with just a drop of Night Lord). There's a HUGE reason to all of this, but you're just going to have to follow this log if you want to find out more. msn-wink.gif

Chapter Name: Shadows of Mysis

Founding: 27th Founding ( M. 41 )

Progenitor Chapter: Sons of Nemia

Geneseed Origins: Dark Angels

Chapter Color Scheme: Ashen black armour with dull metal trim. Death iconography and kill markings are noted to be rife within the Chapter

Chapter Symbol: Symbol depicts the skull of a Nemian Lion (a revered species of the Chapter's Homeworld). The skull is often ungulfed in flames, usually indicating the rank of officer.

Purpose of Founding: Chapter was founded following the annihilation of the Sons of Nemia with the intended purpose of taking their predecessor's place as wardens of the Ghoul Stars. Duty of the Chapter is to ensure protection of the Imperium from the horrors of the Ghoul Stars as well as to ensure order of all Imperial planets within the Ghoul Stars at all cost.

Geneseed Stock: Chapter's geneseed taken from the harvested geneseed of all fallen brothers of the Sons of Nemia. Reports indicate that a vast majority of the former Chapter's Geneseed was left in tact and gene-vaults within fortress monastery was left untouched.

Chapter Master: Mihes Perpato - Single surviving member of the Sons of Nemia. Former Sergeant of the Chapter, indicated as potential candidate for Captaincy but was Seconded to the Deathwatch. Purpose of seconding is unknown. Subject was still on tour of duty with the Ordo Xenos when the Chapter was Annihilated.

Homeworld: Nemia - Records indicate to be the same homeworld of the Sons of Nemia. The earliest record stated the planet to be a lush feudal world of blue seas and green-fielded islands. Latest report states that an estimation of 470 thermonuclear warheads were detonated upon the surface of the planet, many within the Fortress Monastery as well as more than half of the Chapter's ships crashed onto the surface. (Inquisitorial Suspicion that the warheads may have been set off by the Chapter. No actual proof stands.) Nemia is now a blast-ridden wasteland of ashen deserts and black contaminated seas. Perpetual nuclear winter. Estimated end of radiation poisoning: Inconclusive. Local populace miraculously still exists in isolated tribes. Mutation is rife aswell as the common mutation of planetary wildlife.

So, as promised, here's a couple models. Not quite in the mood for writing tonight, so there won't be very much fluff this time around. But we have models, so its compensation. biggrin.png

So this first marine is just a standard bolter boy, but I think he really sets the idea of what's in store for the army. A big mix of commando-ops and ancient knightly armour to give that image of what they once represented.

Next up, we have a squad Vox Master. The concept around this guy is that warp storms and other particle disturbances make basic vox links fairly useless, for the most part. So the Chapter has to rely on ancient Nuncio-Vox tech to help them communicate between squads over long distances and with vessels in orbit.

That's a really cool pose.

You might want to use something to get rid of te primer on his oak and right arm, it looks a little chunky. Also maybe use some GS to fill in his left wrist area. Where did you get that hand? I thought it was from the middle launcher at first but I see now that I'm wrong.

Thanks guys. Gaurdian31 is on the money with the hand. Its from the Grey Knight power armour box (hate the codex, love the bitz)  There is still a bit of work involved for them, gs some joints at the wrists, shave a few mold lines and clean up here and there but I just wanted to show where I'm going with these guys. In other news, I've got a new model for you guys. This one's my first Sergeant, equipped with a Combi-Plasma and a Melta Bomb. No power weapons for these guys, they stick to their role as tactical fire and will resort to their combat blades (and maybe the occasional chainsword) if it comes down to hand to hand combat. Leave that stuff to the Assault brothers, ya? You'll notice a few particular things about the sergeant. One important thing is the bandoleer across his chest plate. I plan to paint them as Plasma Fuel Cells so he can reload his Combi-Plasma whenever he needs to. Just because its a one shot in game terms doesn't mean he can't reload it. :P In all honesty, I like him but he's not quite.... gritty enough. I love most of the model but I can't say I'm honestly happy with his helmet or his left arm (the one with the combat blade)... What do you guys think?

Here's option 2 of the Sergeant. Just a minor change of the head and an addition of a mouth cover to keep ashes and sand out of his mouth. I personally think I like this one better but once again, open for comments. What do you guys think? Also, I think this guy needs a name. There's a specific video game that is very important to this whole project, something very near and dear to my heart. The cover art of that video game is what inspired this Sergeant's pose and is extremely important to the overall theme of this army. Whoever can guess the game gets to name this Sergeant. Sound fair? (Heathens, you're not allowed to participate in this)

And why the hell not? :P  He looks good man, much better than the last noggin.'

I'm really glad we can work on this project together, man. The 7th Company of the Shadows of Mysis wiil make their appearance this weekend....

Cinders and smoke, brother.

I'm going to take the liberty of guessing that the Chapter's name is also a corrupted form of something from said game and go with Metal Gear Solid (though it might be Raiden's pose on the Sons of Liberty cover you're referencing?)

Stellar looking posing, brother! I really like the head swap, too.

Good guess, but sadly no. I'm honestly not a very big fan of the MGS series, aside for Metal Gear Solid 3 which is one of my favorite games. That said, your guess is wrong. Try again.

Great Sergeant! I really dig his pose, and the plasma cell idea is great - I'm definitely stealing that!

Also, that sand cover just adds a layer of awesome to him. However it makes guessing the game a bit easier...

Spec Ops: The Line, perchance?

And we have a winner. Yes, I know, using the sand cover would just make it extremely easy for anyone who's played the game but the idea was just so awesome I couldn't pass it up. Spec Ops: The Lone is my all time favorite game and really the direct inspiration for this chapter. If none of you have played the game, I would whole-heartedly recommend it. Its well worth it.

Now Arenis, since you won the little game... What shall be the name of this Sergeant?

Well, it does make sense, seeing as the planet he's from is cinders and dust. Could I be sensing more nods to that fantastic game in the future? ;)

Anyway, seeing as the sergeant is based on the cover art for Spec Ops: The Line, it makes sense for me to offer a name inspired by it as well. How does Tuomas/Lugo "Strider" Morten sound to you, noctus?

I love the figures. The major niggle in the fluff is why they'd keep using the gene-seed of a chapter that had disappeared under mysterious circumstances - using the infrastructure makes sense, but what if there's some secret taint of evil (and dooooooooooooooooooooooom!) in the gene-seed?

I'm actually working hand-and -hand with Noctus in the development of the fluff; in a matter of speaking, this has become both our babies. Though there is nothing truly evil (aka chaos) in the extermination of the old Chapter, there will be a darkness and a shadow of horror to it's re-birthed form. Promise, even you will enjoy it. :)

With your permission, Noctus, I would like to present the masses with our planet's history, from the point of view of a civilian historian.
