Grotsmasha's Conversion Challenge 2: Librarians Completions

Recommended Posts

Okie Dokie, as promised.

I may play around with a little GS to smooth some of the gaps that may be present.  Buy these are within a few minutes work of being "complete" - They won't be glued together until painting time, so the gaps are mainly Blue Tack.

And lastly - My "I'm a dolt and didn't know the first one was happening" Chaplain Entry - See link:

Hope they're up to par - Don't much like blue-tack - not sticky enough and hard to keep some things in place.

Those are both the back halves of GK Terminator Torsos.  Kind of an expensive conversion (I just sacrificed two GK Terminators//Paladins to my DA Army)  [[iT'S NOT AS BAD AS IT SOUNDS I SWEAR]]..  Anyways.

GK bodies - Brotherhood of Psychers and all.

There's some great entries here. Unfortunately I can't add one from me this time around, but hopefully the new baby will be sleeping through the night before the next competition starts.

Keep up the good work folks.

Yes, there are really good entries here, again!

Ok, well I realise mine is probably not legal on account of not having the gk psychic hood, I could say that my 'hood' has built in electro circuitry, or maybe if I had some greenstuff skills... anyway...

The Iron Warriors had split into two man teams, each consisting of a gunner and his spotter. Advancing steadily through the burning hab-blocks, they were systematically scouring the township of life.

Shooting was sporadic now, as most of the Imperial colonists were already dead or dying. The warband's assault had been swift and brutal, utilising overwhelming firepower to devastate the settlement of crude, pre-fabricated structures. Resistance had been pitiful. Of the colony's erstwhile defenders, there had so far been no sign.

Farax turned a corner into yet another narrow, smoke filled alley. The whole township was a tangled warren of winding streets and clustered buildings. There was no order or symmetry in the layout, no uniformity or even aesthetic qualities about the way the settlement had been constructed. Hab-blocks had simply been dropped in place, one after the other, without planning or organisation. Even after hundreds of years spent amidst the relentless chaos of the Great Eye, Farax still found such disorder inherently detestable. This place deserved to be destroyed, he thought to himself.

His armour growled as he moved, the ancient servos struggling with the weight of the massive heavy bolter that had been grafted to his right arm. Behind him, he could hear the reassuringly repetitive chimes of Kron's auspex, his spotter constantly scanning the area around them for any signs of life. For nearly an hour now, they had found nothing alive within the burning ruins.

There had still been no change to the auspex reading when they both heard the unmistakable sound of footsteps behind them. Both Havoc's turned instantly, fingers on triggers, weapons ready.

A lone Space Marine stood impassively watching them, his grey and green armour partially hidden beneath long, dark brown robes. He was unhelmed, although a bandanna covered his mouth and nose against the thick, oily smoke that drifted through the alley. A slim bolt pistol was holstered at his side, but the warrior made no attempt to draw it. Instead he wielded a large, ornate broadsword in each hand.

The warrior didn't move. Like a statue, he stood staring into the Iron Warrior's guns.

Seconds passed. Suddenly Farax began to chuckle, a harsh, mechanical cackling emitting from his helm's speakers.

Well thin-blood, it appears you've brought blades to a gunfight.” The Iron Warrior was laughing as he spoke, but the sights of his heavy bolter never wavered from the target. Kron was laughing as well now, although he kept glancing curiously at the auspex. For some reason, the scanner was still unable to detect the newcomer.

They were both still laughing when Farax felt a sharp, savage pain in his chest. Looking down, he saw the broadsword that had impaled him. It was impossible, he hadn't seen the thin-blood even move, let alone throw the blade. Nobody could be that quick. To his right, Kron was already lying prone on the smouldering ground, the other sword piercing his breastplate up to the hilt.

Farax tried to fire the heavy bolter, but found he couldn't raise his arms. Beneath his plate, he could feel blood and oil trickling down his torso. As he sank to his knees, he looked across at the Sword Bearer once more, staring right into the eyes of his killer. That was when he noticed. The thin-blood's eyes were white over and had no pupils. He was blind.

Farax began laughing once more. This time, the sound was little more than wet, futile wheezing. He was still trying to laugh when the Sword Bearer raised both hands, and with an irresistible psychic force, pulled his blades from the fallen bodies of the Iron Warriors. Each sword flew through the air, directly into his grip. Only then did the Librarian take another step forward.

As the trickle of blood inside his armour became a flood, Farax closed his eyes and let the darkness claim him.

My first entry: Leon Aramis, Codicier Librarian of the Sword Bearer's Chapter.

gallery_917_8238_672480.jpggallery_917_8238_528078.jpggallery_917_8238_1239923.jpggallery_917_8238_1178035.jpg

***

After serving diligently for nearly three decades, Lexicanum Aramis suffered the injury that would define his career during the Rama IV Extinctions. Whilst assaulting the rebel stronghold, a lascannon beam passed within inches of his face, the immense heat warping his armoured helm and fusing it to his flesh. Although the Librarian was incredibly fortunate to survive, once the helm had been surgically removed, it was found that his optic nerves had been damaged by the intense light radiation, causing permanent blindness.

Since that time, Aramis has steadfastly refused either bionic implants or optical regeneration therapy, and relies solely on his psychic gifts to perceive the world around him. As if compensating for the loss of his vision, the Librarian's abilities have increased dramatically, and he has progressed to the rank of Codicier in record time. His extra sensory perception has become so refined that his disability has become inconsequential, and Aramis is able to function as well as, if not better than, any of his battle brothers.

Unlike many of the Librarians within the Sword Bearers ranks (including the infamous Second Company Shadowcasters), Aramis rarely practices either divination or telepathic disciplines, and instead concentrates on using telekinesis to augment his formidable combat skills. His swordsmanship is exemplary and he is rarely seen without his signature weapons, a pair of finely crafted force blades awarded to him by the Chief Librarian himself.

In addition, his unique gifts seem to have imbued Aramis with almost pre-natural grace and agility, allowing him to become one with his environment in a manner rarely seen outside of the Nineteenth Legion's lineage. As a result, he is often attached to reconnaissance forces where his combat and stealth skills are highly valued, and his power armour has been specially modified to better suit these type of covert operations. Aramis is also renowned for refusing to wear his replacement war helm, except when atmospheric conditions make it an absolute necessity. Given the horrific injuries he suffered so early in his career, it appears that the Lords of the Chapter are prepared to overlook this eccentricity and breach of discipline.

Damn it, Cod, I had the same idea for the top of the staff on my libby. I'll have to think of something else now.

No, you don't! We all borrow and help each other out anyway, so if you think something is good, use it, expand on it, make it better wink.png

where are the little candles from cod_lover on librarian looks awesome

They are from the Bretonnians, men at arms box, in Warhammer Fantasy. Sometimes I find little bits that just seem to fit.

Hmm after reading Spaced Hulk's cool story and background I realised I never even named my Libby, yet. Blame the ETL for that!!

Speaking of which, gotta keep painting tongue.png

Well, as it turns out, I had an idea in my head for a force staff, but when trying to position it on the figure in the pose I was thinking of, I just couldn't get it to work right. If I can finish this guy in time, I was thinking of trying for either a Rune Priest or maybe a Chaos Sorcer and will revisit the staff idea.

Here's my second and third entries.

++ Vid Capture: Unknown Space Marine Librarians. Recorded by surveillance drone during the St Helena Massacres, Ryza War Zone, Ultima Segmentum 976.M41.

Subjects were observed leading a force of nearly seventy Adeptus Astartes, all equipped with either bikes or jump packs and all wearing the same black livery and distinctive skull battle helm. Comparative analysis programs have tentatively identified this group as members of the Revenants, the renowned Second Company of the Sword Bearers Chapter. From their personal heraldry and wargear, both leaders are believed to be Shadowcasters, the feared battle psykers responsible for the Revenant's infamous reputation.

Subject One

gallery_917_8238_664822.jpggallery_917_8238_858115.jpggallery_917_8238_237621.jpggallery_917_8238_978943.jpg

Subject Two

gallery_917_8238_700129.jpggallery_917_8238_1143080.jpggallery_917_8238_1062212.jpggallery_917_8238_1145738.jpggallery_917_8238_842365.jpg

Addendum: As I'm sure the Lord Inquisitor is aware, the Revenants were officially recorded as destroyed, along with up to ninety per cent of the Sword Bearers fighting strength, in the Fenspire disaster of 935.M41. For them to be observed so recently and in such numbers indicates either exceptional efficiency in the Chapter's rebuilding program, or that rumours of their demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Given our Ordo's long held interest in both the Sword Bearers and their activities, particularly their links to the other so-called Unforgiven Chapters, I have deemed it prudent to begin a more detailed investigation of this incident. Therefore, I am immediately departing for the Ultima Segmentum, proceeding first to Ryza and then onwards to Mire, the Sword Bearer's ancestral home world at the furthest edge of the Eastern Fringe. Emperor (and communication channels!) willing, I will keep your Lordship informed of my progress and any developments in this matter.

++ Last recorded transmission of Inquisitor Oswin Veit, 933976.M41. No further communications have been received from either the Inquisitor or her ship, Unseen Hunter. Ryza Strategic High Command has no record of the vessel ever entering the system. The Unseen Hunter and her crew were officially declared lost in the warp 231997.M41

Thanks mate smile.png I'm not 100% happy with the last one (the jump pack Shadowcaster) as he's leaning way too far back, so at some point I'll probably try to reposition how he actually stands on the base. The pics have shown up a load of mold lines I'd forgotten about as well, particularly on the bike 'caster's force axe.

I actually started Aramis as a bit of an afterthought, but he's turned out to be by far my favourite of the three, both in terms of the model and his background. A blind, psychic, superhuman, ninja-commando sword master - what's not to like about that combination? biggrin.png

Lyandro Karras is excellent by the way! Very cool interpretation of the character from the book. thumbsup.gif

First and foremost, I apologise for largely being inactive this week, I've some excellent conversions to comment on, then our Week 2 update.

averykess: Such a simple pose, but the attention to detail is excellent, of particular note, are the plasticard sword and the key.

@ War Angel: Those flames are gunna look kisk-ass once painted. The horned skull on the powerpack is spot on as well.

@ Reyner: Another straight forward and excellent pose. That head really suits your model, I'd previously never considered it for a Libby, well done.

@ Pbenner: Of your two entries, it's hard to pick a favourite, they both have great things about them. I like the pose on the axeman, but thats sword is awesome. Both poses give great mental image as to the combat situation that they're in.

@ cod_lover: Never fear, he certainly fits within the rules. So many details there...but lets start with that gun, its Saaweeeett!!! And I love the little dancing pic at the last.

@ Spaced Hulk: 3 entries, Nice!!!! The fluff for your first is excellent, and once the model is revealed, it's spot on. It's cool to see those Anvil parts used so well also. Secondly, Wooooow yeah, a mounted entry!!!!! Love the powerfist/sword thingy on subject Two, that'll ruin anyones day.

@ War Angel: I'll be "fixing" the Chaplains pips, as it's at odds with most of the pips on the B&C.

Ok, time for our Week 2 update.

So, I was inspired to recreate an older librarian I had put together seven or eight years ago and submit a second one for this kitbash.

Epistolary Draceo Scorpius is the finest close quarters combatant in the entire Sanguinary Phalanx Chapter. While he manifests few truly offensive powers, his ability to channel his psychic energies into defensive powers and to enhance his own prowess further separate him from the rest of the brothers within the Chapter. His wisdom and counsel suggest that, when Chief Librarian Bereas vacates the position, he shall take up that mantle.

This was the first attempt at making Epistolary Draceo Scorpius, all those years ago:

This is his reincarnation:
