firewind Posted June 5, 2013 Share Posted June 5, 2013 So I'm getting ready to take the plunge and start working on a pre-heresy army. Iron Warriors have always seemed like one of the cooler legions, and I've never ran a fully mechanized army before. Here's what I had in mind: Iron Warriors 1500 point Armoured Division Forge Lord Centurion with power maul, rad grenades 110 Rad grenades mean that he causes instant death to the average space marine opponent with his power maul. Being a techmarine he can also try to fix up any of my vehicles if they get damaged, and his 2+ save makes him tough to kill. He joins the support squad. Contemptor Dreadnought with Kheres Assault Cannon, fist with bolter 190 A great model that can shoot both light vehicles and infantry, and also does good work in assaults. Legion Tactical Squad: 10 with bolter, pistol, ccw, lightning claw, melta bomb 190 Rhino 35 Legion Tactical Squad: 10 with bolter, pistol, ccw, lightning claw, melta bomb 190 Rhino 35 These guys are the meat of the army, rolling forward behind cover and jumping out to shoot when needed Legion Tactical Support Squad: 5 with 4 plasma guns, augury scanner 165 Rhino 35 These guys can take out terminators and are a nasty surprise for deepstriking enemies Vindicator 125 Vindicator 125 The Vindicators drive forward and blast anything they need too, providing cover saves for rhinos if needed 2 Predators with autocannon, lascannon sponsons, machine spirits 300 The sheer volume of shots this unit puts out should take care of any enemy vehicle and can even threaten aircraft when necessary. I was also considering taking a master of signal instead of the forge lord, as the bombardment would add even more artillery goodness to this list. I was also disappointed that I couldn't fit in a medusa or basilisk, but they are both so much more expensive than the vindicator that it doesn't seem worth it. Thoughts? Some Power Fists might be handy on your Tactical Squads to tackle Dreadnoughts but apart from that it looks pretty decent. Looking forward to seeing a WIP thread too. I think I'll have to wait until this gets past the 2000 point mark to add Medusas in, as a heavy support section filled entirely with scattering blasts makes me nervous. I'm also excited to see if I get any new siege engines when the next two Heresy books come out. If I do end up switching the Forge Lord to a Master of Signal then at least one of the tactical squads is definitely getting a power fist. I also really like the idea of fitting a breacher squad in, but having to fit them and a land raider transport in would require a major restructuring of the army list that I don't think I'd like to make. It does, however, seem like just the thing to bump the list up to 1850 points if I want to play some games at that level. It will be a little while before I start working on these guys, as they first have to be shipped to Western Canada, but I'll definitely put up pictures once I get them.
