cadian 812th

after only swlowly advancing my paint sheme with my cadian 812th I realised something. they were absolutly boring to paint!

now due to world of tanks i started thinking about another colour sheme, inspired by the WWII german camo.

after an evening of painting here's where i stand so far:

the previous paint sheme:

the german camo on which it is inspired:

and the paint sheme on a leman russ and some cadian models:

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb281/amorfatipictures/DSC_2607_zpsd9dd8272.jpg

the leman russ had a few mistakes in it(such as the dark spots on the dark colours, there the spots should be the soft brown.)

and a close up of the infantry:

without spotted jacket

with spotted jacket:

i'm currently deciding which looks best, spotted jacket or not?

Nice work and not an easy camo scheme. Kudos!

As for the infantry...both look good to be honest. If the jacket splotches could be a little rougher, stippled on for example, I think they would look better.

Looks good, repainting your Guard is an arduous task but is well worth it. Just don't make the mistake of deciding to repaint your Marines at the same time like I did :P

I think the spotted jackets look a bit better as it fits with the other camouflage which is all spotted.

I agree about the stippled effect, but I found round stipples hard to achieve using my brushes,do you know any tricks?

As for my wolves, those are all painted up so will stay like they are;)

How about buying a cheap brush which is too large and then cut it down to size and shape yourself? I've done that before with brushes from the 100 yen store. They don't last and are low quality, but good enough for stippling and drybrushing, and you can just toss it when you're done.

edit: So it seems i actually even deleted my own comment...

Anyway, in order to get a stippled effect i'dd need a brush with sturdy hairs, which are quite dense but yet have a small diameter in total, right?

it's the main reason i decided to rethink my paint sheme, and a mayor influence for me starting an armoured battlegroup.

So I made some minor progress tonight. I changed the dots on the leman russ and gave it a drybrush of eshin grey in order to try and create a more dusty/used look on it.

Some notes:

-Keep the spots like actual spots instead of the "smears" they are now. This needs a better stippling technique. Maybe use earcleaning sticks?
-Spotted jackets will look ace, try it out on the remainder of the squad and then decide. It doesn make it fit more with the other camouflage like fishwarrior said.

Here are the pictures (made under crappy light conditions using my cellphone):

I guess this will be it for this week since i'll be busy preparing my trip to denmark (Nyborg) with Stichting HEI where we will be performing a 15th century joust with solid lances. If you're in the area be sure to come and check it out!

contrary to my own idea i figured when you have to pack your bags is definetly THE best time to pain!

I now tried out the cow-like camo pattern (as seen on the hetzer) instead of the striped one on my command vanquisher. All in all i'm quite pleased with it.

The rest of the infantry squad now also has spotted jackets and they look a great bit better!

anyway, enough nagging, on to the pictures!

Still lots of painting to do, but atleast they look better then just undercoated models. Now only 5000 is points left to paint! :p

The dots were rather easy to paint,I just dipped a colouring pencil in the paint and used that make the dots. The camouflage pattern will be different for each tank(squadron) since each crew is responsible for the camouflage of their an vehicle. I like the vanquisher his pattern the ist but for the sake of diversity the striped pattern will be used as well

In that case even better :) You're doing a grand job, though with 5000 points still left I hope you're planning a couple of breaks. During my repainting crusade if I was getting tired of Guard I could at least swap to my Marines to keep it fresh and still keep painting.

I wasn't sure about the camo at first but it has grown on me. I also like the vanquisher pattern. Good job and keep turning them out!

Get those easy living, lazy ,short, not fit to carry a Lassgun, can't march to a cadence call, tanker boys to work lol.

( Don't get me wrong I am sure their grate at parties )

You should bless them with a commissar tank.

commissary tank is fluffwise rather boring to paint since it's mostly black. I think I'll paint mine in the standard camouflage pattern, add some commassariat signal(if any exists?) And rely on the model popping out of the popular to show it's a commissar tank.

I'm glad the camouflage is growing on you,I wasn't sure either. I'll try to make some more pictures tonight that really make the camouflage look ace(at least in my imagination)

Actually what threw me off was the first tank with the straight line painting. The pattern on the vindicator looks fantastic.

camo isn't always an easy thing to paint. What color goes here or their. But you have a good  formula that looks easy enough to reproduce any way you decide to.

The commissar was me poking at you to paint more. You did say the crews were tasked to paint their tanks after all.

Keep plugging away at it it's all looking good!

i kind off agree with you that the vanquisher camouflage pattern looks beter, however I'm a bit afraid it'll end up looking bland if every tank in my army has it (still leman russes, 5 chimeras, 2 hellhounds, an artillery battery, 2 manticores and some sentinels and close to 150 troops to paint). the striped pattern will look ace on chimera based vehicles.

anyway, since models always look best in their natural habitat here are some of the pictures i quickly made in the garden. i took them rather fast since i noticed something tickling me when i was lying down in the grass. turns out it was an ants-nest!

Enough :cuss chat, on to the pictures!

Lovely photos!

For the stippling brush, if you get any brush and cut the bristles so they're very short then up close to the metal sleeve they'll be still enough to stipple.

Comparing the two camo schemes I prefer the dashes to the dots, but as you say you'll be doing more variations I'm keen to see what you come up with. How about a mixture of dashes along one diagonal and dashes along the opposite diagonal (not overlapping, but intermixed)?

Thanks!

Could you maybe do a paint mockup or something? I'm having a hard time to understand what you mean with

Tonight I leave for denmark so there won't be any updates on this for a couple of days but stay tuned! up next will be another infantry squad (if i force myself to paint an infantry squad for each vehicle i've painted i might actually get my entire army painted in no time!)

so yesterday i got back from denmark, and it was absolutly awesome! I'm already looking forward to next year!

anyway, in order to keep this going i need to maintain a certain momentum, hence this small update. I currently have lots of cleaning up to do so i didn't bother painting. What I did do was adding some greenstuffed cloth to one of my command vanquishers and start building on my second manticore.

Here are the pictures. I also added the orginal test piece(before I painted the leman russ) that i used to determine what colours to use. I think the striped pattern looks great on chimera based vehicles but like before both variants will be tried out.

With some luck I might get a game this saturday with them, lets hope their new colour pleases the dice gods!

model wise i think the vanquisher is the coolest tank in our arsenal, especially the forge world variants so i'dd recomment you get one! the coaxial heavy stubber wasn't that difficult to convert too and it helps the look of the tank a lot in my opinion

I was wondering about the co-axial, it's a cool addition that should really be on the tank anyway. BS3 isn't great on an expensive single shot weapon so something to help would be nice. Got any pictures of the conversion, just as a quick pointer on how you did it?
