Also the redeemer is awesome. What is riding in it? The Tac squad and Techy?

Pretty much, but only if need be. Other than being cheap, the Techmarine's main purpose is to be 1) fluffy and 2) to heal the Librarian Dreadnought when it does the Malefic gimmick...

So instead of the triple FTSF list, I've tweaked this force post Angel's Blade:

Decided to revamp this list and in doing so, I have dropped the Cerberus in favour of a few more units and my new Predator. I figure that some more targets is a good thing and seeing two Predators, a Sicaran and a Vindicator rolling up a flank can be a tad daunting...

Options

As you can see, I've got a gunslinging Captain rolling with the "Meltacide" to take advantage of his BS 5. Alternatively, I could use a Priest (so swapping out the higher BS for better durability) and giving me points to spend elsewhere (Scout Sergeant combi-gravs for example), but I think I might roll with this. I also wish to try out Malefic again given that I didn't have a chance to last time (I'll also be rolling all on Malefic - learned my lesson there!).

Other than that it plays like before but with a few more options for getting Objectives. Obviously this list has hard counters but I feel I am getting closer to an optimal list... Thoughts?

As you can see, it plays the same way but with a bit more oomph at the start of the game. Opted for a Priest in the Meltacide (points saving) and for the moment, the Techmarine is on foot as I'm not entire sure where to trim the points for a bike - or even a jump pack and combi-grav if possible - so he can Scout the gravbikes. Still sticking with Malefic (despite the Techmarine being nowhere near for the gimmick to work) Oh, and I'll need to borrow a Predator or Jimmy Rig one up from a Rhino (counts as using a razor turret and sponsons) but that's neither here nor there really.

Attempting a revamp for 8th, whilst keeping the theme (heavy mech) in place. However, I'm considering dropping the Cerberus for now! :ohmy.:

Trouble is, I'm not happy with it so far.

2000 - Heavy Mech list

Battalion Detachment

:HQ:

Techmarine

~ Chainsword, hand flamer, servo arm

Techmarine

~ Power axe, stormbolter, servo arm

:Troops:

Scout Squad (5)

~ Camo Cloak, chainsword, sniper rifle

~ Camo cloak, sniper rifle (3)

~ Camo cloak, heavy bolter

Tactical Squad (5)

~ Chainsword, stormbolter, meltabombs

~ Heavy Flamer

Tactical Squad (5)

~ Chainsword, combi-plasma, meltabombs

~ Plasma gun

Spearhead Detachment

:HQ:

Land Raider Excelsior

~ Stormbolter, multi-melta, combi-plasma, hunter-killer missile

~ Warlord: Gift of Foresight

~ Veritas Vitae

:HS:

Land Raider (Phobos)

~ Stormbolter, multi-melta, hunter-killer missile

Predator

~ Predator Autocannon, two lascannons

~ Stormbolter, hunter-killer missile

Vindicator

~ Stormbolter, hunter-killer missile

Supreme Command Detachment

:HQ:

Librarian Dreadnought

~ Stormbolter

~ Quickening, Wings of Sanguinius

Lieutenant

~ Chainsword, master-crafted boltgun

Rhino Primaris

Options & Tactics

  • 10 CPs, LRE Warlord with a 6+++ and the Veritas Vitae
  • Techmarine in the LRE and the heavy flamer Tacticals, Techmarine in the Rhino Primaris and *maybe* the other Tactical (it not, then in the Phobos). Lieutenant where needed. Scouts in cover somewhere useful
  • Two LRs roll up together, with the Rhino Primaris just behind and the Predator and Vindicator nearby. Librarian Dreadnought makes a nuisance of himself on a flank
  • No ML stratagem for anti air, only outlet for the HB stratagem.
  • Is it too 7th edition orientated?

Thoughts?

Oh, and the LRE as Warlord idea can be seen here

Seems interesting. It's hard to say how it'll play out, though. You have a lot of wounds wrapped up in a few models, and a couple of lucky heavy weapons could mulch your hopes. But that's not exactly unusual! Between the Phobos, the Excelsior, and the Predator you've got a LOT of heavy firepower. I'm a little cautious about the comparative lack of anti-infantry, but I tend to overdo that these days, so you might be fine.

I have the sprues to switch to either a Crusader or a Redeemer, both of which would tick the anti-infantry box. More balance that way?

I think the Crusader would be the better option of the two, with a nice round 24" on everything. The Inferno Cannon is really good, but the short range really puts it behind comparatively. I'm hesitant to outright swap the Phobos for the Crusader, if only because I'm not entirely sure I'd want to give up a pair of twin lascannons, but that's a pretty solid swap if you agree on the anti-infantry question.

Musings

  • 9 CP (-2 for Patrol, -1 for Hero of the Chapter {Librarian Dreadnought}). Potentially gain more from the Inquisitor.
  • Excelsior is BS2 if within 24" of the Rhino Primaris, Phobos is BS2 if within 12" of Rhino Primaris (likely target for the Servo Skull). That's 8 BS lascannons...
  • Vindicator is a distraction and a third T8 unit. Often at the tip of the diamond (Rhino Primaris at the back, hiding, LRs on either side)
  • Company Vets are there for the "relic tax" and run with the Inquisitor. The Inquisitor means this list can potentially put out three Orbital Bombardments in one game...
  • Benched the Sicaran for the Scorpius as I felt that the list needs some indirect fire. However, it loses the Sicaran's "distraction Carnifex" ability.
  • Predator for redundancy/flank work. Troops embarked...
  • I am finding the Librarian Dreadnought hard to use but I need a heavy hitter that fits the theme.

Musings

  • Techmarine Warlord, trait TBC. Patrol (-2) and Relic tax (-1) means I start at 9CP. Undecided if I want to buff either the Librarian Dreadnought or the Inquisitor further
  • Inquisitor can either start in the LR with the choppy Tacticals, or teleport in to support the Librarian Dreadnought - who will be arriving T2/3 anyway. Terrify to ignore Overwatch...
  • Still doing the dual BS2 LRs by having them and the Rhino Primaris in a triangle formation, Vindicator as a distraction, Predator on flank or back up lascannons.

Giving this a while on the weekend, so here's an update. Felt I'd try and work the Cerberus back into the list for a change:

Blood Angels, 2000 points

Arks of Omen Detachment

:HQ:

Land Raider Excelsior

~ Stormbolter, combi-plasma, hunter-killer missile

Rhino Primaris

~ Hunter-killer missile

Librarian

~ Boltgun, force axe

Shield of Sanguinius, Wings of Sanguinius

Techmarine

~ Hand flamer

Warlord (Rites of War), Master of the Forge

:Troops:

Tactical Squad (5)

~ Combi-melta, lightning claw

~ Meltagun

Tactical Squad (5)

~ Combi-melta, lightning claw

~ Meltagun

Tactical Squad (5)

~ Combi-grav, lightning claw

~ Grav-gun

Tactical Squad (5)

~ Combi-plasma, lightning claw

~ Plasmagun

:FA:

Land Speeder

~ Multi-melta

:HS:

Land Raider (Phobos)

~ Hunter-killer missile, storm bolter, multi-melta

Predator Annihilator

~ Hunter-killer missile, storm bolter, heavy bolters

Sicaran Battle Tank

~ Heavy bolters

Vindicator

~ Storm bolter, siege shield

:LoW:

Cerberus

~ Storm bolter, heavy bolters

Musings

  • 3 CP to start with. Four T8 units, three of which get +1 to hit - all a distraction whilst the the Tacticals do their thing and Sicaran arrives from Reserves to wreck havoc.
  • Five Objective maps: Oath, Warp Ritual, + another. Tank in centre with Techmarine and Librarian (spells could be Fortress + one other)
  • Six Objective maps: BEL, Codex... + another. Speeder pushes for BEL, Tactical, Librarian, Sicaran in Reserve. Codexs is doable for 10-11 points... maybe.
  • Not yet optimised, but finding points is tricky...

Ended up with Secure Missing Artefacts. Given the list below didn't offer up anything of note (and I wasn't confident on Assassinate), I mixed my secondaries up a bit and went for Oath, BEL, and after flirting with Ritual, I settled on Codex. Opposing list was:

  • Jetseer
  • Jetlock
  • Farseer
  • 3x Rangers
  • 1x10 Dire Avengers in Wave Serpent
  • 1x5 Banshees in Falcon
  • 1x6 Shinning Spears
  • 1x4 Skyweavers (haywire)
  • 1x5 Harlequin Trope in Starweaver
  • Tropemaster
  • Death Jester

With their secondaries being BEL, Scout the Enemy, and Ritual. I went first. Fair bit of obscuring scenery resulted in the Starweaver getting popped early on and the Wave Serpent going to middle bracket as I rolled up the board. Eldar tried to react but it didn't go as planned; the Cerberus only lost twelve wounds to all the haywire (only to be repaired to top bracket next turn and demolish them), the Spears left the Vindicator on a single wound and of course, were promptly obliterated, whilst the tanks and others couldn't deal with the Land Raider on their precious artefact. They didn't score Warp Ritual until T3 thanks to denies (my Librarian only survived two turns, so I wouldn't have done well with that secondary). T2 saw me max the Devastator component of Codex, stayed in Tactical for the rest of the game trying to up that component. Their BEL/Scout/Ranger combo was eventually dealt with by the Predator that was hanging back, but it took a few turns as I was trying to kill the last one with its stormbolter...

Game was called after T3 and talked up. BA 90-42 Eldar. I maxed Oath, Codex (10), BEL (10) as I started to score the latter later on.

It will be interesting to see how this list will evolve in the next edition.
