Reyner: Me too, and I wish they were still available.

Midnight Runner: Thanks, mate, and I'd bet he weighs closer to 3.

Husrong: I'll be using sheet plastic, balsa wood, and either Bondo or maybe Milliput to do the majority of the construction work.

Finally got back to my Bloodthirster last night and the legs are almost done, the horns started, and trying out some work on the wings.

Trully awesome sculpt, while different to other BT he's still reconisable as one, the crocodile head really works with the model. I would suggest adding some hair in the lower part of the legs, to integrate the hooves better, but appart from that it is looking great!

Thanks, guys.

Really like the work on the legs. Not overkeen on the horns, to me atm they look like floppy ears. But I dare say with more work and paint they'll look great!

That's just the foundation layer on the horns where I superglued green stuff to the wire armature so that the rest of the horn sculpture will have something to hold on to and not spin around while I'm working on it.

Maybe invert the traditional Blood Thirster scheme. Black Daemon Flesh, Red membranes on the wings?

Could use grey/re/brown as the highlight colour for a skin stained with dried blood look.

Keep the armour brassy although the interlocking leg armour plates, you could maybe alternate between steel and brass?

I remember from the days of yore, where a guy did that and flocked the back which sprayed black looked like short coarse hair

Dantay, I think I'm going to do the chainmail in an iron color and the armor plating in bronze.

Some of you may have seen my solution for the loincloth in the Challenge thread, but here it is if you haven't:

It will get some sort of decoration to ID it is a space marine and I may do something similar for the back as well.

I started it with a quick little armature of some leftover clipping of some sheet plastic with a rough wire form for the arms superglued to it. I slathered oil all over the areas where it would be touching the 'Thirster so the GS wouldn't stick and I could keep it separate for painting. It needs a bit more work, especially on the arms, but I like how it turned out.

Just a thought, maybe you could model "struts" onto the corpse, as to represent the black carapace connection points? Not sure if there are official representations, but some artwork shows connection nodules protruding from the skin to interact with the power armour. It could be a nice detail to further identify it as a marine.

I'll see what I can do about showing the black carapace, but time is running short for the deadline in 8 days.

In-between a furious amount of sculpting and putty oven trips on the 'Thirster today (pics will have to wait) I had a chance to play around with a new toy that arrived in the mail a couple days ago: Oyumaru, or Instant Mold/Blue Stuff. I got 2 packages in a light green color.

The first thing I wanted to do with it was cast some replacement bright lance barrels for my Wave Serpent turret since they're really badly miscast and I didn't want to chop up the few bright lances I own to fix it. Here's my first fledgling attempts next to the original.

One is made from Milliput and a ProCreate mix, and the other is GS and ProCreate.

I bought some Legos to build a mold form and here you can see the bright lance mold.

I also made a Lego "plunger" that fits perfectly inside the mold form so I could really put some pressure on it when the upper part of the mold was being formed and the indentations from the Legos in the top make it grip the plunger very securely. Now, the above barrels I made didn't come out so well because I was only applying pressure from my arms onto the plunger and the putty wasn't getting pushed into all the nooks and crannies, even with me attempting to pack both sides of the mold as much as I could before putting the halves together. You can see the white Tamiya Putty on them where I tried to fill in low spots.

I tried to think of something I could do with the mold form and the plunger to get more pressure on it and nothing satisfactory came to mind. The idea I came up with was to put aside the mold form and the plunger, set the mold on the floor between two pieces of cardboard and then stand on it. I'm not a small guy and it seemed the easiest solution to the problem, and it worked. Here's my second attempt with the Stand On It method that I made with GS/ProCreate leftovers from working on the daemon earlier today.

And a comparison with the original I used to make the mold with, a Milliput/PC mix, and the GS/PC mix that obviously haven't been completely cleaned up yet.

At first I didn't think this stuff was going to work out, but now it's giving me ideas like copying the Autarch fusion gun so I can make my own squad of Fire Dragons.

You can re-use the stuff over and over by heating it in really hot water for a minute or two. I don't know if I want to start messing with resin and the cost of using even something as cheap as Milliput is still prohibitive for casting large pieces so I doubt I'll be molding and casting anything much larger than these bright lances.

The loincloth on the thirsted is a nice touch, very grim dark but still very nice!

The mold putty stuff also looks good. Probably a great way to make extras of not so common bits. Is that material reusable? Run it under warm water or some such and it goes back to putty?

Oh, nice! I haven't had much luck with Oyumaru/Instant Mold in the past, but never tried the "step on it" method - have to give it a shot.

Might also want to check out this method for doing simple green stuff casting if problems crop up with the Oyumaru.

The bloodthirster is comming on amazingly though is there going to be any of the orrigional left?

That instant mold looks to have come out really nicely how solid is it? As I've found extra pressure on the stuff I use can really warp it and cause miscasts.

8 days left to get this Bloodthirster finished, painted, and based. Well, closer to 7 now, but I am finally finished with the legs. Head is almost done. The horns need a bit more polish and I need to do some more work where they join the head, and I the lower jaw needs finishing.

I spent several hours today working on a rear loincloth thing that had a bunch of chains on it and it was all tattered and stuff and it looked liked crap so I went with something simpler. Why the cloth? I wasn't real keen on sculpting daemon ass cheeks and the chain g-string just wasn't happening.

Next up is the back and I hope it doesn't take as long to finish as I fear it might. Also, the wings will be in a different position once they're permanently attached and they only look this way because it's where they naturally come to rest. Speaking of the wings, I finished the bulking up work on one of them, as the wing arm musculature was looking weedy in comparison to the rest of the figure.
