Ok, he it should read 'Valek Mk II' as I already have one version of him!! This other version is a different wargear load out (i.e. big axe!!). As usual, he is angry.....devil.gif

If I wasn't interested myself with the competition, I would definitly say "THIS ONE MUST BE THE WINNER !!" :)

I've always been a huge fan of your work, and more particularly captain Valek. It's after seeing it that i ordered a bunch of those khornate heads to make my own characterfull characters.

Please continu !

Chaos Lord Maestoros of the IV Legion, XIX Great Company

And a little fluff.

The eldethar rank-and-file had been little more than a warm up, but the incubi bodyguard of their leader was giving Maestoros the first true test of his skills in years. It pained him to find that even astartes were like uncoordinated children against his martial prowess and he had to resort to seeking out xenos scum for a real challenge. Where his brethren had spat curses and insults in low gothic and their own tongue, the incubi was silent as the grave, his entire being focused on weaving a web of death with his klaive that would claim Maestoros with one misstep.

"You astartes are little better than the abominations my haemonculi provide me," the archite called out in low gothic, speaking for the first time. Her grasp of the language was impeccable, but what caught Maestoros by surprise was her perfect Lochosian accent. He faltered for only a split-second, but it was all the opening the incubi needed.

With blinding speed, he slashed horizontally, scoring a deep groove across Maestoros's chest and severing one of the thick power cables, sending a cascade of alarms and warnings across his vision. The curved end of the klaive caught the haft of his power glaive and with a deft twist, it was torn from his grasp. Faster than he could believe, the incubi came right back, slamming the pommel of the weapon into his face plate, sending hairline fractures across the left optic. He knew the follow-up was coming and hurled himself onto his back, narrowly avoiding a rising slash from the klaive that would have opened him from hip to collarbone. The silent warrior took a step back and gave a slight tilt of his head.

"Ureth honors you," the archite said. "You are the first once-human to have survived his favorite maneuver. In return, your death shall be quick."

Maestoros smirked behind his helmet, drinking in the sensations that flooded his senses; the pain of the cut in his chest and his body's enhanced metabolism already closing the wound; the thrill of a true challenge, and the faintest twinge of fear in his belly that he might actually die today. He stood slowly, brushing a hand over the great gash in his chest as though the wound were little more than a smudge on his armor and then gripped the hilt of his sword with trembling fingers.

"Allow me to honor him in return."

There were still some things I wanted to add to him, but my work schedule for this week is crazy and I'd rather get him entered now than risk missing the deadline.

Thanks guys, I had a blast making him! I could have used a different head but whenever I deploy the third company I like it to led by Valek. This version will be leading the all Death Company. That way I can use my dudes in red using DC rules and obviously he will be counting as Astorath, the fluffwise he will still be 3rd Voivod. His pose was inspired by the Codex art of Astorath.

Prime RE his axe - it basically IS a thunder hammer (Death Co box) with the axe head from the chaos termie lord (I think).

Kage - Excellent work as ever, he looks very authoritive! I am very jealous of your GSfu.

Midnight Runner -

That Astorath-Valek is awesome. Such a striking, imposing pose. BTW, I love the use of the metal backpack to better balance the model, such a good idea!

Kage -

That Lord is just how I envision a IV Legion one; no over-the-top decoration, just practical armour and weapons. And yet your conversion work is superb (that chestplate and helmet are perfect!)

I don't like how 40k is moving away from the grimdark feel in the new edition and with chaos marines, I really want it to feel like they're someone you do not want to run across. I see Maestoros as a killing machine with no mercy and was hoping to have that come through in the figure.

Your entry is pretty good too. I normally don't care for the flying poses, but you pulled it off. Well done!

I feel the same way about the IV Legion. I can understand some of the traitor marines being more ostentatious, but the Iron Warriors have little need for useless frippery. I was very sparing with the cog pattern and the decoration on the polearm, but it was a tough thing to balance and still have him look like a chaos marine and not just some mean looking loyalist. I'm glad someone else thinks it was successful. :)

@ Midnight Runner: Oh wow!! Very nicely done thumbsup.gifthumbsup.gif

@ Brother Chaplain Kage: Double Oh wow!!! He's turned out fantasticly, can't wait to see him in the IVths livery.

Cheers,

Jono

Thanks, Jono, and thanks again for running these contests. :D

I do want to get some paint done on these guys, but I'm going to have to do some practice on before I put a brush to my conversions. I'm kinda rusty and want to make sure I get it done right.

Alright, so I finally have my entry complete.

Here is 'Captain' Tor Val "The Craven", formerly of the VIII Legion now in service to the Warmaster Horus.

There are some really great models on here. Don't envy Grotsmasha having to pick a winner! Just gutted I couldn't enter. Got my entry about 90% complete and been called away with work and won’t be back for a couple of weeks. I'll eagerly be waiting for the next challenge and hopefully can enter that one!

Great entry, noctus. Really flavorful pose, and I can't help but wonder about the fluff behind him.

Why's that?

It's a good kind of wonder: Night Lords legionnaire pledging allegiance indirectly to the dark gods. Got to be a good story behind that I figure :)
