Themed Salamander list question

Emperor's Furor

Recommended Posts

I'm just wondering, I'm planning on doing salamanders for my crusade/heresy army, and I'm starting to draw up a rough frame work for what I want in my army.

Now I've always always been one for have a relatively balanced army, I have both long range support and close quarter support, but I'm wondering whether I should go for a more focused army. So this got me wondering whether I should purely go for a close range fire power based force, i.e a lot of flamers, heavy flamers, firestorm cannons, magna meltas, with the longest ranged weapons being volkite weaponry.

I'm also unsure whether I should have the force on foot or mounted as much as possible, my current 40k space marine force is entire mounted, even the devastator squad has a razorback if it wants to get about. I am considering having predators armed with firestorm cannons or magna meltas as well as eventually a legion glaive. So what do you think about maybe going half way? have support squads like heavy flamer/melta support squads in rhinos for rapid deployment and have the rest of my troops on foot, maybe even my commander to?

I think you should wait until after Gamesday (End of Sept) until you make any hard commitments, it's not far off and you'll have the proper rules for sallies and a shed load of new models coming out for them.

Of course that doesn't stop you getting some preds with magna meltas or flamestorm cannons ;)

I was just thinking off a weird squad that is kind of themed but may be effective, what do you think of this.

Forge Lord with familiar, refractor field, thunder hammer and graviton gun accompanied by a squad of four servitors with flamers. If possible I'd try to get the 3rd option on the warlord chart (2 rolls with the ability to reroll if you get the same) that trait gives flamers rending.

So effectively I'd have a forge lord with 3 thunder hammer attacks and 1 power fist attack with a 2+/4++ save, as well as being able to shoot with a graviton gun which hurts if you fail strength tests but it also causes haywire to, not quite sure if it allows armour saves though if you fail the test.

Then there's the toughness 5 servitors hitting automatically with 4 flamers but also has the ability to rend if I get the right trait.

What do you think? It's a little weird but I figure it could take down tanks and troops a like and also repair vehicles if I come across them.
