Goddammit, Thamier.

This was an expression of awe at and jealousy of your skills. That jetpack sorcerer sucking the soul out of the marine is a work of art!! :tu:

Nice work on the bastions, and the recent stuff you did with those witch elf daemonettes is amazing. Great painting, too!

WOW you've captured your concept art perfectly! It's honestly amazing to see the small details as mentioned before, but what I'm most impressed with is all the tiny arrows! Working on such a small scale must be so difficult and you make the end result look so good! Looking forward to seeing one fully built!

Looking great so far. I'm amazed that you can sculpt chain links so well.

it's not that hard.

Your sculpting skills are epic! Clean and presice. any chance of a tutorial for making the chain? defo could try that on my Khorne CSM or Bez squad

sure no problem (would make a video but my computer is still fried..) ill make a picture tutorial aswell, but the baisc is take greenstuff roll into a small sausage then put on model, gently flatten it and with a scalpel or thin straight tool cut little squares at about the same size all along the lenght(its the basic chain links, after that use appropriate tool to press in the square corners to make each link round (unless you want square chains) after that use a round tool to press a circle into the middle of each link. almost done now , last steps roll another greenstuff sausage smaller one and lay it ontop of the chain lenght, then with a small tiped toop press down on the middle of the mew top sausage into the middle hole of each link underneath and done!

if it was too confusing stick around for the pictures.

thank you, i like to fiddle around with the tiny details its the best part as long as one is patient you can do anything

Thamier you're insane to spend that amount of time and work on cultists ;), you better cast them after to get enough of them! The designs are really cool, yours has to be my favourite 40k army out there, I like so much your style. Also, are those flagelant robes you've used for legs?

That's crazy impressive. You're like a sculpting machine (in my mind these were all made in like 40 min by a servitor with 4 arms and sculpting tools for fingers)

hahah hardly more like hobbyists sitting trying over and over to get one thing just right over 40mins then letting it cure for atlest a hour before working more on that bit(takes a loong time very slow work)

and only have two arms so far

maybe but there is a method to my madness!!! (i think) and you are starting to think like me ;) my style is awesome! heheh

yes those are flagelant minus torso and feet

Wait a minute are you making the cultists from Dawn of War?

almost:) i like the style with the robes and the trophy racks so taking those ye

wanted to share this incase any of you decide to come game with me, two times a year there is a big tournament here in town (northern sweden)

i usually attend but haven't had time now but in half a year im going to the next one.

if you are curious and atlest want to have a glance at the info senarios and everything is here

http://www.fantasiaspel.se/tournaments/fantasia-fanatic-xxx

really great ppl good city and if you want to expand your miniature collection the friendly local gaming store has a hefty sale on pretty much the entire store inventory normally 20% off most stuff(too bad my funds are low atm)

but seriously think it could be so cool to meet some of you and see your army's in real life and have the chance to play and have some fun.

i been working on a update for the cultists and even a chain tutorial but failed on the pictures (got too caught up and forgot the most important step) so gotta redo it.

okay took some pictures of step by step chain sculpting

i had a bit of greenstuff over and grabbed my phone and shot a few pictures the light isent great but it should be okay i hope.

first step roll 2 sausages in greenstuff one big and one small

http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/thamier/work%20in%20progress/5CD60EE7-5BFF-450E-B7A2-CE60B9368D5A.jpg

step 2 place the biggest sausage on your model were you want the chain, then with sculpting tool flatten it a bit and smooth the sides

http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/thamier/work%20in%20progress/C841B539-0659-4D08-AA2B-A9823E76CEAB.jpg

http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/thamier/work%20in%20progress/D2883E68-8E2A-47B0-9F06-1E0770B535A1.jpg

step 3 start to section the chain with a sculpting tool, this will be the chain links.

http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/thamier/work%20in%20progress/5302FCD2-091E-4BA7-9EDD-43CDFC4F10A9.jpg

so now they should be somewhat equal size but square so step 4 is sto push the sides gently to round them a bit(unless you are making square chains, that's also doable)

http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/thamier/work%20in%20progress/1899ED95-8EBC-4078-881E-D59F5BD72B7E.jpg

so getting closer now step 5 is to push a round sculpting tool into the middle of each chain link

http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/thamier/work%20in%20progress/28474AB7-9C78-4323-AEEB-6645B215FD78.jpg

so once that is done it should look something like this, almost done

http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/thamier/work%20in%20progress/E4CF07CE-12C5-40A1-8BBF-C690B7AC50A4.jpg

step 6 place the smaller sausage ontop and grab a small and pointy sculpting tool

http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/thamier/work%20in%20progress/717C0263-99A3-4225-89DD-487E371C9AAA.jpg

now aiming for the middle of each link below push the smaller part down into the middle of each link

http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/thamier/work%20in%20progress/9C1E69E2-5F37-4142-BC70-B594E68E9A10.jpg

and done!

http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/thamier/work%20in%20progress/98D3A8E1-1046-4F15-9D1A-63BE9295AC4C.jpg

i really hope this helps

and the first four cultists legs are ready working on the 5th a and 5th b

Nice tutorial on chains! Really liking the cultist legs, all the details look fantastic! Just out of curiosity how many tools do you have for sculpting? I've got some standard clay shapers, but I'm looking to get more sculpting tools so it'd be cool to hear what kind of stuff you use for such great detailing. Looking forward to seeing the cultists completed!

i have a bit but intend to use the same 10ish mainly, one of my most used ones is one i made myself by flattening a metal pin and glueing it onto a woden rod, use it for details

there is all of them

That tutorial will help massively! Defo give that a go soon. Look forward to seeing how your cultists come on

great! and it might take a while for the cultists to be done nearly half way now.

Thanks for the tutorial! And god, those legs look amazing, like professional level work

hehe thanks i think you might be exaggerating a little, its a great compliment but i wish i was better, i am working on it tough.

Well, that is the exact same technique I've been using for chains! However, do you have any tips for sculpting them without a surface beneath? Like a hanging chain or something like that.

hanging chains are more tricky i would think, if you have to sculpt them i would probably do them in two parts, first side on a flat surface, then put it on the model flat side out and sculpt onto that.

it be alot of work i would recommend to use real chain instead.
