thamier
update time! so i been working on my justarin terminators and all thats missing now is some storm bolter bits so i van maje the last combi plasmas also missing two of the powersword arms so i can make the last catonian poweraxes for them. here is a picture of my poweraxe prototype, what i did was i had a powermaul that i got from a good friend, i cut the head off the maul and taking the round ball part from a old skeletonwarrior morningstar and makeing blades from plastic card it started to take shape, added the last details with greenstuff(tryed cutting them free from some plastic powerwepons but that just keept failing. the nodes are so small and fragike they just curl and deform) so i sculped the nodes and was quite happy with the look, onece my proto type was done i used instamould also known as magic mould to cast more axes in grey stuff (greystuff gets less bendy then greenstuff) http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/thamier/work%20in%20progress/6EC8AF02-C7DA-4E31-9F7D-572EEBE6D227.jpg this is the mould i made for the axe and also cut upp a betryal at calth kombibolter side to make it compatible with forgeworld kombi bitz then glued it together and cast that too http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/thamier/work%20in%20progress/F0480F8E-2C3B-428E-AB4A-58994A593DCA.jpg so now i have 15 justarin terminators konverted from betryal at calth box, almost all done as i mentioned then they need some paint ;) and here they are http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/thamier/work%20in%20progress/E7395094-C272-4C11-B7FE-893CA6F7C2B3.jpg http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/thamier/work%20in%20progress/21BAADE7-503C-49C9-8DC3-3DB6C1072394.jpg http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/thamier/work%20in%20progress/DF443702-C7AD-46A5-A7E8-0084B739867C.jpg http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/thamier/work%20in%20progress/6E697F84-0880-44FE-8880-BBFD0AEF85F3.jpg now i just need to get the last bits im missing then i can get the last two justarin finished. nex project im gonna start on is makeing some Sons of Horus Reavers. so gonna convert up some mk 3 torsos to be reaverlike ;) hope you enjoyed this litte update, and if you have any questions or comments you know I like to hear from you all. BrotherJim
Glorious! Excellent work Thamier! You have created something truly unique here that fits perfectly with the theme and spirit of 40k the hobby. They look marvellous. You sure get a lot done with that instamold, I can make press molds ok, but haven't tried two part molds, the photos have got me thinking... Hmmm any further tips? Can't wait to see em painted, the Son of Horus earlier was really nice too btw thamier 1 Back to top

Can't wait to see em painted, the Son of Horus earlier was really nice too btw thanks alot for the compliment, i noticed that i gotten better att using the insta mould, i can tell you all that i learnt. i one great feature is that if you make one side of the mould and let it cool for about 5 minutes before you make the other sode they dont fuse into one solid bit ;). also started to use a toothpick to make a few holes in the bottom part while its still soft, moving it in a circular motion so when i press the top bit on later it fill the holes and it will make the mould align nicely once you start casting. step by step what i do is 1 heat up water and add instamould 2 rughtly shape it to fit the part( most of the time i make it square) 3 place on flat surface and press bit down into the instamould half way. 4 use sculpting tool to first press the instamould in snugly to the sides of the bit, and with bigger sculpting tool press the sides of the entire mould in twords the bit to give it a squre shape. 5 after 5 minutes i heat up instamould part 2 and shape it roughly square with fingers. 6 i losen the first part from the flat surface so i can move it around and then i press part 2 down onto the first part, starting from a cornor and sliding it ontop to let most of the air exscape then i flip the mould so the part two is now downwards onto the flat surface and i press it down firmly and with tool press sides in to fit better around part one. step 7 after its cooled i pry the them apart and remove to bit. 8 with a scalpel i stap a few slits into both sides on the highes parts so air can excapse when casting. hope that was helpful, sorry for the confusing discription

KrautScientist
Wow, Thamier, those Justaerin are truly excellent! Having recently worked with the plastic Cataphractii myself, I am all too aware that quite a bit of work is needed to turn them into something a bit less vanilla and more original, and you've really knocked it out of the park with these! The press molded stuff and scratchbuilt axes are also truly something -- very nice! On a related note, so you need some plastic combi-bolter bitz for those last two Termies? I am asking because I didn't use up all the bolters on the sprue for my own Cataphractii, so I have some leftovers. If you're interested, just drop me a PM. Midnightmare
Justaerin are sooooooo awesomez! You have really outdone yourself with them. When they are painted they will be difficult to tell apart from the originals. Outstanding :tu: Please tell me you are doing a Heresy Abaddon to go with them after your 40k version. thamier 1 Back to top

The Traitor
Hi there Thamier, I've just read through the last dozen pages of your work and I'm already a fan of the Balefire Legion! Also awesome work on the justaerin, when painted they'll just look like the original (still wondering how you managed to do those diminute spikes). Finally, you've really inspired me to start press molding things with insta mold, as you get great results, but have you tried using other materials appart from greystuff? Because I've been thinking of trying polymorph to be able to reuse the spare material, but I don't know if it will work as good... thamier
nice work dude. Could yuo maybe do a tutorial for them? I'd love me to sculpt some of those myself. :) I wasn't planing on doing more than one then making a press mould and duplicate it ;) but if i get the time ill do a tut on it. i googled some pictures off reavers then filed down the mk 3 torso to a base then cut away a few bits that was in the way, added the bits of eletric bas string as cabling glueing that down then used silicone sculpting tools to add the final look. i gotten quite caut up in building been wanting to make a librarian for 30k but only psycker i seen is the one from forge world, so i decided to make my own using that as a base. i took teo shoulderpads and glued to togeter for the psychic hood, then started carving and filing it down before glueing it onto the torso i filed down a bit, the head is a normal mk4 from b@c box aswell cut a bit fldrilled and filed and added a bit of green stuff details http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/thamier/work%20in%20progress/9D83A625-96D6-4BA2-87B8-2368BC5DC165.jpg http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/thamier/work%20in%20progress/E5792CD3-6385-44D2-A9EA-A2352ED0B684.jpg http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/thamier/work%20in%20progress/C62CB4C7-53FA-4A4D-9FAC-AC5B54C6F284.jpg http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/thamier/work%20in%20progress/FAF496FB-FC9B-4CAA-BAB2-1E5999750084.jpg http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/thamier/work%20in%20progress/4A1455DC-FA3D-439F-B9D9-C16BEB1C6ADA.jpg i know its rough and far from finished but im happy with it so far, what do you guys think?
