delete picture upload limit

Recommended Posts

for the longest time i was able to post pics of all sizes. but now the limit is 2MB per pic. this means i have to use a 3rd party website to now post pictures which has me sitting on like 20 pictures because the process takes way to long. at a minimum it needs to be doubled to 4MB per picture.

Actually, no, you don't need to post 4 Mb pictures for various good reasons:

1) Bigger picture sizes really slow down one's browser and can be really annoying for users when they try to access a page and have to wait an age and a half for the pictures to download. Also, if someone doesn't have unlimited bandwidth, it'll eat up a large chunk of their "allowance", which isn't really fair for them because not everyone can afford unlimited bandwidth;

2) You don't need massive pictures to showcase your work. A picture 700-800 pixels wide and at 95% original detail is more than enough for an army picture because you can always add a selection of unit close-ups afterwards. Nobody wants to have to (or is going to, for that matter) zoom in a bazillion times to look at that tiny detail on your Captain's codpiece;

3) If you have smaller picture, it'll use up your allocated gallery space a lot slower than if you upload massive pictures;

4) The memory that you use when you upload pictures to the board is paid for with a combination Brother Argos' (the site owner) hard-earned money, which he most probably needs for all of the surgery that he's going through at the moment to restore his eyesight, and the community's donations. I honestly think that the money used to host unnecessarily large files would be better spent elsewhere than on extra memory, don't you?

5) The picture should really only contain the models you're trying to showcase, and not the extra 500 px of white background, which take up quite a chunk of space too, so resizing your pictures so that they focus on just the subject you'd like to showcase is another great way to cut down on file size;

6) There's a great, free, cross-platform and open-source program called GIMP that allows you to resize/cut your pictures with relative ease (there are loads of tutorials on the net on how to do this, so doing a bit of research is always going to be beneficial), so I'd suggest that you use it;

Apologies if I come across as being rather blunt, but this kind of situation does irritate me somewhat because people tend to think that bigger pictures and/or larger files are necessary, which is not the case.

Hopefully my post has helped you in one way or another and has shown you that your request is quite unnecessary.
