Well, cracking on, the Bolter squad WIP.

Group, and a split close shots. Not exactly digging the bayonets, so I'll be changing those. Chainblade attachments perhaps ? As for the champion, it's the much maligned fella who was replaced in the sword squad. Re-used his head for the standard bearer, and sought a more fitting replacement.

Unfortunately I've somehow veered off track and given the the most ridiculous OTT headress ever, replete with lil' skull earrings.

I blame AC4 and all the flamboyant pirate dress as an influence. Perhaps an eye-patch too ? ;)

Opinions ?

Small update, with a fitting captcha......"over the top".  Indeed.

JUGGERLORD !

http://i40.tinypic.com/2vc9wjq.jpg

General mockup, with a few tweaks so far. Need to swap his Raptor claw feet for studded ones, and figure out what to do with his left hand, either raised holding a chain leash, or plasma, or something. Lil' WitD will be carrying an appropriate blade in due course.

Meanwhile,

Finally got around to finishing the Chaplain, and rather liking him. Goblet works well, and perhaps some added blood later as an excuse to try thon new technical paint. Here he stands with the other HQs....

Who says the WEs have no officers ?  :wink.:

Nice work! The helm on the jugger lord looks awesome and putting raptor feet on him really makes him look more power armored as opposes to medieval plate. I was working on my own juggers and had some trouble with the legs, I think I'll steal that idea if You don't mind:)

Yep, I'll (possibly) get around to sand rather than flock eventually, but the constant flaking/loss drives me crazy. Bits everywhere, and there's enough plastic shavings as is.

@ElDuderino

That's the major issue, making them look PA'd rather than fantasy. Might practise on spare legs to make the plates more angular.

@Biohazard

Up to us few Khornate disciples to stop the boards becoming the Batwing & Chainglaive. :)

And yes, there's something more annoying than freehand White Scar flashes:

Got the Lord on the workspace, but I fancy a change of pace. A palette cleanser perhaps, in the form of some veterans......

Hmmm, White Scar Kheshig...... :happy.:

Looking great buddy. I built a 20 man unit of khorne bolter dudes last week. I get as far as priming them then lost interest :) They don't look anywhere near as good as these though. Also really impressed with the WE symbol. I hear you on needing a change of pace every now and again.

Fluff time:

White Scars 1st Company - The Kheshig

Like all veteran Astartes 1st companies, the Kheshig are comprised of the toughest and most valiant members of the chapter, those veterans whose exploits have greater standing than their peers, and whose servitude is dedicated to acting as a personal bodyguard to one Khan of the chapter, and to the Great Khan himself.

Similar to other chapters, the Kheshig are split into two roles, the Torguud (Vang) and the Khevtuul (Stern), and although members may be trained in the use of TDA, concerns regarding mobility (not to mention superstition regarding it's presence during the the Primarch's disappearance, and an inherent fear/mistrust of teleport technology) mean it's use is limited bar the heaviest of fighting.

Instead, many prefer the flexibility of standard PA, the Torguud utilising jumppacks wherever possible, and in particular the Khevtuul of Bho'su Khan (6th Company). It is noted that they favour arcane Marks, notably the IV and VI, for their durability and lower power/heat signatures, especially as they commonly scout with their Khan at night, preparing the order of battle and litany of targets for their brothers signature dawn attack......

So, heavy scout kinda style, fitting into the LRDG theme, and looking suitably knotty (sic). :)  Cloaks ? Gotta have cloaks, and a few more grenades etc along the way. I've enough (15) minis for 5 man bolter-chainsword/bolter only/combi Melta Khev-Stern squads, oh, and a MkIV HH Recon Squad whose heavy packs were an easy inspiration. As for the Tor-Van, they'll accompany a new JP Khan later on.....

Phew. I'd forgotten what a pita white was. Ah, well, good practice of sorts and a reminder to buy some new (decent) white......

Couple of touch ups/shoulder pads to finish, but I thought this was overdue an update.

Khevtuul Choso - White Scars Khesig

http://i42.tinypic.com/2ib23yw.jpg

http://i44.tinypic.com/2dc7epu.jpg

The 'Choso' Khesig are renown throughout the White Scars, the elite cadre of expert scouts, many of whom have spent long periods with the scout formations, even returning to serve within them after initiation as an Astartes. Their title derives from a species of Chogorian jackal, a wily, vicious, nocturnal predator found on the homeworld, and whose valued pelt serves as a trophy for those who have undertaken the Rite of the Hunt. An unaided task for only the most cunning and stealthy of participants, to pursue, entrap, and reduce a pack of these creatures to the largest male, and whose prize grants the possibility of joining the Choso in their veteran years.

As for the fellow far-right, with the book and cloth, I figure he's responsible for maintaining a millenia old hunt for a Choso traitor, keeping records of sightings and engagements, with some as-yet-not-made-up title. And yep, Mk6 Kneeling guy. Why not ? :)

So, a company of white (groan) to go, and I'll think I'll wait for better weather, and spray cans a-go-go. After picking up a brilliantly cheap eBay joblot including a Defiler, Bikes, a Rhino and tons of new/old/metal marines, Bezerkers, PMs etc.....just tons, I'll be running back to Papa Khorne.

Papa !

"Tell me what happened."

"We thought he was mad at first, blood crazed perhaps. Came straight at us on that beast, so he did...."

"Go on....."

"Well, that's when it happened, when the sky crackled and exploded, and awash in red. When we regained our senses..."

"Yes....?"

"...he was flanked on both sides, an entire line of blood and bronze, thunder and screams unlike anything else. The noise, that's what sticks, that sickening noise as they impacted on our line. I'll never forget it, the crack of metal against bone and flesh raised tenfold, the bellowing of those....things. Three Chimeras and over a hundred dead in that minute ! The screams, the snickering and roars ! Oh....the noise.....!

"Please focus Commisar. What of the Traitor Lord ? What did he carry ?!"

"Skulls. A flail of skulls. But, they were marked.....numerals. As were the heads of those....those.....nngghh...."

"Sleep now Commisar, sleep and rest.

Administer the remaining sedative, ensure his peaceful passing, in the name of the Emperor, be praised.

And contact the ship, Jural Kordash has been confirmed."

That's an excellent and evocative piece of fluff and a very nice concept for your lord as well!

That said, I feel that the actual weapon the model has still falls short of the awesomness in your flavour piece ;) The skull parts are amazing, but the way they're attached to the model make it look like he is waving around the remains of a standard or a musical instrument. Personally, I'd go with a shaft more like the flail of the Deathwing Knight's sergeant and have the skull bitz dangling from that. That would also add some additonal gravitas to the model, I think.

Hope you won't take this as negative criticism!

Oh, and since I didn't get around to saying this earlier: The "command squad" for your Havocs is amazing! Loving the champ's head!

It's more of a ceremonial staff/trophy rack/mysterious artefact than a "flail", poor description by the dying Commisar. ;)  Think Roman consul or general. The AoBF in his right hand should suffice for weapons.

And to avoid being nuked from orbit, I'll just link a second piece of inspiration.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gDUGj2CyTes/TWFyt1nLlOI/AAAAAAAAAow/eBdpi7R2G-I/s1600/ALIENS-Book_Two_Comic4.jpg

It'll become much clearer in time.

As for the "Havoc command" Kraut, you mean the Techmarine and servies ? Really should get around to a 'finished' thread with better pics of the early stuff.

Ah, I see. I didn't know there'd be an additional axe. Silly me ;) That said, a real skull flail would be totally awesome, wouldn't it?

Regarding the "command squad", I was actually referring to the champ, standard bearer and plasma guy from your bolter squad, sorry for the misleading babble ;) That champion's especially awesome -- even though you were unsure about the OTT helmet crest at one point. I think I'll be stealing the idea for a champ of my own at one point...

So, while I'm struggling to finalise my Jugg Lord and bits, I got sidetracked into a little fun side project.

Inspired by this thread by PHS: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285807-master-of-relics-conversion/

.....I've spent the afternoon knocking one up myself. As per my take on WS fluff, my Devastator squads are under-strength as they prefer to man the armour (Preds, Vindis, WWs, Attack Bike Sqds) themselves, rather than leave it to those miscellaneous, uncategorised marines in other chapters. So, he'll be a Vet.Sgt who lurks within a 5-man Dev squad, but actually uses his vantage point to command a trio of Preds, and thus will have a suitably 'comms' backpack, and a solid bronze pauldron befitting his position.

Still to trawl through my texts for a Mongolian moniker, so for now, I'm referring to him as "The Fist of the Fifth". Wonder how that'll translate......

Many thanks to PHS for providing the idea.

+++--- start-M39.8---+++

+++---record-2389.23---+++

"32 years. 32 years spent hunting the hunter. Kordash, traitor captain of a traitor Legion. I'm sure he refers  to himself as Lord in this age, but nothing could be further from the truth.

From the scant fragments of data from the Heresy, records indicate his batallion barely entered the fray at Terra, his grand contribution the recovery of two traitor Titan Legions, and piecemeal remains of the WE as he fled for the Eye.

Lord indeed.

If anything, however, this would account for his pattern of subsequent behaviour, targeting only those Chapters of the First Founding, ignoring and avoiding those of the Second and beyond. An individual quest to continue the Long War against those he deems worthy, true successors to challenge and destroy, a quest against such fate that deprived him of earlier opportunity perhaps......

+++---break---+++

....and of most concern to our creed is the artefact wielded by the traitor, a staff of unknown origin, upon which chain and cord hold the skull trophies of fallen Astartes Captains, an abhorrent desecration of Imperial subjects, and a fate I theoretically believe to be far more worrying.

Reports and eyewitness accounts of the Traitor Kordash have the common occurrences of said artefact, held in a braced arm of bronze, -akin to those collars found on Traitors of rank ?-, and that during battle he is joined by a pack of daemons riding Juggernaut-beasts. The despoiled skulls and daemons alike bear the same numerical markings, those of First Founding chapters, and that challenges are typically aimed at the highest ranking officer present.

It is within reason to speculate that this artefact has some hold, some imprisoned servitude of a battle-spirit or martial prowess within the corrupted remains, and thus able to manifest this into the form of a daemon, seemingly at the will of the bearer. As terrifying and heretical as this theory sounds, I can find no further explanation, and have proclaimed that I shall not rest until the destruction of this unknown artefact, the destruction of  Jural Kordash, and the return of the Astartes deceased, to be sanctified, purified and finally laid to rest, Emperor be praised.....

+++---break---+++

For 33 years I have hunted the hunter. Now, I have him.

Referring to it as the Captain's Cradle for now, and I'm open to any improved suggestions towards a decent name. Ideas please.

As for me, there's 8 Juggs. 8 'letters for forehead filing. And 8 captain helms for the 'letters to flaunt.....
