Well, another wee teaser of some decoration for my Jugger horde:

http://i59.tinypic.com/2nhe0qq.jpg

And while pooting about with assembling the various parts and pieces, I somehow cobbled together a Herald, seeing as I'd need an HQ should the daemons ever reach a table:

http://i58.tinypic.com/116quww.jpg

Needs moar skulls. A new on-foot Khan is currently in the wings too, using a cheap Kor'sarro body to replace my 'standard' captain, but he's still camera shy given droopy blutack and fidgety bits. Next time.

Work, work, work. Eating into my time bah. Haven't been up to much, and figured I'd stick up a few quick wip pics.

The simple herald kitbash, and my first Blood Jugger, the champion carrying the appropriate First Legion helm. Need to figure out the selection of Jugg heads yet, and the number of spikey parts has killed my fingers somewhat. Still working on a good recipe for the corresponding numerical scars on the 'Letter scalps too.

Onwards !

Cheers DSS.

Was hoping to get some more done today, with a wee five hour shift tonight.

Instead I've a four hundred mile, eight hour round trip to pee in a cup. Random medical testing bah !

Least I'll collect my imported Vanguard parts from the RM depot, after being stung by Customs for ten quid.......

# Bunny Ears

bouncing here and there and everywhere

blood and skulls galore they know no fear

They are the Bunny Ears ! #

Ahem ! Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse ? Nah, lets double that....

http://i58.tinypic.com/34srt6q.jpg

http://i58.tinypic.com/2zsd4qo.jpg

The first pair of Legion 'letters complete, including the dabs of decoration. Apart from the numerals, I figured I'd need a few 'momentos' to add a dash of extra identifying colour.

http://i59.tinypic.com/htwbb6.jpg

So, any Wolf or Angels out there with CC ?  :laugh.:  Don't worry, Fist and Ultra are following shortly. I'd love to see someone with greater ambition and technique take this idea even further, with a fully robed daemon, one with full fangs and mane, one with bionics etc,  exaggerating the appearance even further....

As for the Scars.....sigh. After more bits purchasing and subtly upgrading across the board, not to mention neglecting the 30-odd scouts I have, I'm having to reorganise the formation/fluff. That does mean a new 10th Company sniper-Khan though, so it's not all bad news. More work and hassle in the long run however.

In the meantime, a wee shot of those completed Vets.

Enjoy, and feel free to leave any CC/feedback. Back to 80's cartoon theme songs for moi.  :biggrin.:

Cheers for the kind words guys. Bio, I guarantee you'll be humming it during your next 'zerker charge !

Looks like I'll be comprising the Scars of three Brotherhoods now, bulk of the 5th, assault elements of the 6th, and the scout 10th. Barely started and it's growing already ! Currently playing with bits to create a modern day WS 'breacher' and a JP Khorne champ to practice for the Raptors, and selling a ton of 2nd Ed Chaos on Fleabay.

Hoefully get some pics up soon.

I love days off. What better excuse than to tip out two cases worth of stuff, burst open bits bags, and let the madness begin.....

That's a lie, as it started last night. After an extremely early morning, the lucid fatigued day passed with a trawl through some bookmarked Mongolian sites, glancing over names, titles, phrases and such, in an effort to reconstruct my WS force. By the evening, my envelope 'notepad' was typically jumbled with scrawl, but it all made sense to me......

http://i62.tinypic.com/2e4x834.jpg

http://i62.tinypic.com/1z4aaaf.jpg

So, after the fluff, comes the build. Squads reformed, junk bits repurposed, and upgrades spread throughout, and almost two companies are now safely tucked back into cases and boxes, ready to be fashioned into the three brotherhoods. Here's what I'll have as a result:

Dagan Brotherhood (V Company)

Dagan Khan + Command Squad

Qorchi Keshig (Combi-Melta Sternguard)

Tactical x 6 (Rhino mounted of course)

Assault x 2

Devs x 2 (understrength, shared Rhino?)

Predator Annihilator x 3

Vindicator x 2

Bho'su Brotherhood (VI Company)

Bho'su Khan + Command Squad (Jumppacks)

???? Kheshig (JP Vanguard, still need a name)

Khulan Khogen ("Wild Horse Commander" - Bike-mounted hero)

Tactical/Assault x 1 (Bike squad of 8 + Attack w/HB

Tactical x 1 (5 man Combat squad)

Attack Bikes x 2 (M.Melta)

Land Speeder (M.Melta)

Land Speeder Typhoon

Ebugen Brotherhood (X Company)

Ebugen Khan ("Old Man" - Scout Master)

Maral Kheshig ("Deer" Sternguard - HH Recon Squad)

Choso Kheshig ("Jackal" Sternguard - see pic ^)

Scouts x 25 (Sniper x 5, Bolter x 5, CCW x 15)

Land Speeder Storm

Pheeeew. Yes, that's a lot, and I'll probably start a fluff thread in the WS section at some point, as I work my way through creating little stories and background as I go. But that's enough text for now ! Pictures !

Dagan Khan WIP

http://i58.tinypic.com/282dt9e.jpg

My stalwart foot Khan, utilising thon Kor'sarro body, WFB Marauder head+cloak, WFB Skele sword, and copious blu-tack.

Bho'su Khan WIP

http://i57.tinypic.com/1z2j5lu.jpg

JP Khan, and I'm struggling to know what to arm him with, so open to suggestions....

'Cobra' Vanguard WIP

http://i57.tinypic.com/35mnrd1.jpg

RT-era, the WS had two elite units, the Soul Drinkers (now a chapter) and the JP-equipped Cobras. Cobras have fangs, and I figured dual-wielded swords would tie into a 'fanged' look. Still to find a translation for snake though....

Khara Budang Kulug ("black bear hero") WIP

http://i60.tinypic.com/2ujpfrc.jpg

I think One-Eye was partially responsible for this, with his brutal looking Heresy guys, and I looked into creating a modern 40k breacher mini. Then the concept of him being an oddity, a defensive tactician sparked, a guy who knows how to hold before punching eveything at one point in an enemy line. I like him.

Days off eh ? Great things.

I've come to the conclusion that I really don't enjoy painting Juggs, seeing as I keep putting them off. Oh well, something new for the new page.....

Started cutting and scraping and filing away at my spare DV Hellbrute, (purchased long before the newly announced kit, along with a few extras to tart him up) and after a fruitless search for excess arms from said kit, I decided to press on in converting with what I had.

http://i61.tinypic.com/10xesn4.jpg

Looked at a HB/ML loadout, something to soften Ork or IG mobs and provide fire support for a WE charge. By the evening, I just fired on with the momentum, and started gluing it together. My original now has a twin ! There's also a close-up of the hacked up IG H.Bolters, that I'll need to border with a touch of fleshy bits to meld it in, but it works so far....

http://i62.tinypic.com/2zs741k.jpg

http://i57.tinypic.com/bdumur.jpg

CC ?

Aside from thon, I also picked up a bundle of cheap Scout bitz, cobbling together an option for my sniper squad, found a Chogorin term for the Cobras (Moqoi), and am currently playing around with some Gor/Ungor spares to bulk out the flesh-shield cultist beastmen.

http://i62.tinypic.com/wtg6c9.jpg

Anything but the damn Juggers.....

Nice conversion! There's one change I'd suggest, though: What about placing the juggernaut head a little lower, like so...

http://eternalhunt.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/hellbrute-wip-17.jpg

...and then adding a neck made of cables and spin-y bitz between it and the hole where the original head normally goes? I think the additional neck (and leeway for the head) would make the Brute look more aggressive and mobile. I did something similar on my first Chaos Dread conversion, and the result really made it worth the additional bit of work!

Unfortunately, KS, I like the roaring bellowing look, and masks the fact that my skill isn't quite up to the task. My only experience with greenstuff is with the nostril kind ! :wink.:

As for the lowered head example, my first thought was that it should have a fan in the CC hand, hiding behind it like a shy Victorian lady. Ahem !

Still to trawl through my texts for a Mongolian moniker, so for now, I'm referring to him as "The Fist of the Fifth". Wonder how that'll translate......

http://i62.tinypic.com/zwdi07.jpg

Many thanks to PHS for providing the idea.

Now THIS is awesome! Got this model but been wondering for ages what to do with him. Now I figure I'll be able to work something nice out, and do a backpack swap for my siege master.

Great thread man. I'm equally as impressed with your scars as I am with your WE.

Can't go wrong with bolters and ranged support. I was always balanced with my old red boys. 2 squads of bolter marines to 2 squads of zerks. Always worked out well!

Cheers MB, although credit is definitely shared with PHS. Once I 'saw' a sabre/tulwar replacing the chainsword on his concept, I knew how to push ahead.

Just noticed PHS actually finished his here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285807-master-of-relics-conversion/

And another nice inspiration here: http://crusadedude40k.blogspot.com/2013/10/brother-manduul-white-scars-heavy.html

Lends itself to conversion quite easily. Perhaps I'll get on with mine soon enough....

Weekend off......time to play.

RAWR !

http://i58.tinypic.com/28jfpg.jpg

http://i57.tinypic.com/2zqu6wy.jpg

At first, just a fun lil' champion, influenced by the numerous hours of Dark Souls over the last month. Secondly, after clearing and sorting the WS cases, I went through the WEs in similar fashion, trying to utilise the vast amount of leftover bits and organise them into useful squads.

Breachers incoming as a second bolter squad using the WFB shields, and after grabbing a lovely Khorne lot on eBay, there's a Lancer concept floating around in the back of my head.....mmmmm. Champ needs someone to lead after all. :laugh.:

Might just have enough bits for some IW allies too......

Cut the Raptors down to a fluffy eight, the spare ninth as an extra melta if necessary, and...... OH ! A WILD RAPTOR APPEARS !

http://i60.tinypic.com/rumln8.jpg

Bit of fun and paint variation, after finding thon suitable Skel shield. I'll leave you with a teaser of my entry in Grotsmasha's Techmarine challenge, a WS Temujin (=Senior TM, Tengri = Junior TM) jumppack equipped to accompany the HQ squad of VI. It's proving a welcome distraction....

And a few pics for this thread:

That jumppack ties in with the HQ squad on the horizon, and really handy for flying around fixing stuff I'll wager. As for his axe, I have a picture in my mind of him embedding it in someone's chest, before a melta chin-shot vapourises the head. Was actually quite fun to put together, albeit fiddly as hell.

Best. Tin. Opener. Ever. Back to the grind we go......

The latest models look cool! One piece of advice, though: If you want to have the thunder hammer berzerker wield the shield sideways, that's cool. But I would maybe rotate it 180%, because a position like that would not only seem more natural (at least to my eyes), but also enable the zerker to use the shield's (sharpened) pointy edge as an additional weapon during battle.

Love the crazy melta-wrench on the Techmarine, btw! :)

@Kraut

Haven't really settled on anything until parts arrive, but he'll be bursting ranks from a phalanx of lance/hammer guys, so it'll be dependent on a uniform look. Kite shields are typically held that way though. Lots of thinking to do yet, and more extreme movement to be emphasised.

@dss

Can always rely on encouragement from you ! ;)

I'll readily admit that I am not an expert on how best to use any shields, but there's a Khornate champ from GW holding the shield pretty much the other way around, and it seems ...fitting, for some reason?! Maybe because it looks more than a second weapon than like a mere implement of defense like that, I suppose.

Anyway, just my two cents. keep up the great work!

There's two pretty standard ways to carry a shield. The first way is the vertical lock, sort of the way you see with that Khornate champion you see. However the intention for something like that is for it to be generally a Kite Shield as the vertical is tended to give the wielder a measure of maneuverability so he can raise his shield up wherever it needs be. But at the same time, using a vertical lock, the wielder actually usually holds  the shield upside down so that when he does raise it up to defend him, the weapon is right side up and the extra weight from the shield is focused on the arm and shoulder making it easier to  move into place. The problem I see with that Khornate champion is he's using a shield that is simply way too large to effectively use the vertical lock and at the same time, if he does raise the shield, most of the damn shield is going to be covering up next to nothing, making him extremely vulnerable and the defense virtually useless. I suppose the excuse is that he has enough strength to carry such a heavy shield with ease, but I don't really buy it.

The second way is the horizontal lock, which is something that makes much more sense with the Chaos Shields. It's typically used for larger shields and tower shields, allowing for the greatest amount of hold and weight (and force) distribution while allowing the wielder the easiest access to holding up a shield that is practically a wall of defense. Chaos Warrior Shields are essentially tower shields in all intents and purposes. They're massive, lumbering slabs of thick metal plating and in terms of size, they encompass nearly the entire height of a Chaos Space Marine. In my experience of using Chaos Shields with my Word Bearers, the horizontal lock is the best way to go.

Just my observation.

Cheers, noctus cornix: That was an interesting read! :smile.:

In this case, however, I wasn't really arguing for horizontal over vertical, but rather about where the blunt and the pointed edge of the shield should go. Sorry if I worded it badly. I have used that Khornate champion's shield arm in a conversion of my own where the arm is posed to transform it from a vertical to a horizontal lock, but the fact still remains that the sharp edge, for lack of a better word, is facing forwards rather than backwards.

Anyway, all just a matter of preference, I know ;)
