Greetings from a shiny new Sister of Battle!

Hello everyone!!

I was directed here from the Dragon*Con page on facebook, and was told this is the place to be!

I am completely.. and I mean completely.. new to WH 40k. I have played Dawn of War 2 & Chaos Rising, as well as Space Marine on my xbox.. so as you can tell my understanding of the lore is limited only to the video games. I also used to play the heck out of Warhammer Online back when it was new... but I know thats a whole other thing.

I've always wanted to get into the minis, and love going into the games room at cons and just watching, and thinking how much fun it would be to get into. So I finally bit the bullet and bought myself a few of my first minis, some random Sisters of Battle. Also bought myself the rulebook because I have no idea what I am doing.. and unfortunately don't know anyone else who plays. I am hoping I will be able to rope my husband into it when he sees me creating my tiny army.. otherwise I will probably have to brave going to a shop that runs games and give it a shot with complete strangers. =\

And as if that isn't enough, I've started on a Sister of Battle cosplay... which is sort of what catapulted all of this. Saw some jaw-dropping SoB costumes at Dragon*Con and just said "YES, MUST DO". But I'd prefer to do it right and not go in with only what I know of WH 40k from the video games....

So all of this just comes full circle as an excuse to finally get into it... even if I have to do it on my own. But hopefully I'll have you guys to help me along the way smile.png

Welcome to the B&C,

You heard correctly this forum has some of the most knowledgeable people in 40k lore (i am not one of them), we are also a freindly bunch!

I suggest having a good look around the Sisters of Battle (SoB) page and the Amicus Aedes page or some good info on SoB and the 40k setting as a whole

Here's some online resources for info about the background of the 40k universe:

http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Warhammer_40k_Wiki

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Main_Page#.UjU82D_QFbk

On the B&C there's subforums covering just about everything as far as power armored inhabitants of the 40k universe. Marines, Chaose Marines, Sisters of Battle, and recently, the Inquisition and Imperial Guard were added. If you need help with building an army list, building the army itself, painting, finding players or game shops in your area, you came to the right place.

BTW, does the first part of your screen name have anything to do with this?

Thank you guys so much for the warm welcome!!

I will definitely need all the help I can get building my first army smile.png Not quite sure where to start besides just buying and painting, but I am hoping the rulebook will start to make things clear for me. It means a lot to find such an awesome place like this. Been lurking for a few weeks now and have been really nervous/intimidated to make my first post, being such an absolute newb. I guess I got the hard part out of the way, right? msn-wink.gif

I dunno if that could be considdered the hard part. You'll find most of us die hard and veteran gamers/painters/builders to be quite a friendly bunch really. And about being an absolute noob.... Ah well, we all had to start somewhere/somehow. For me that was when I was 13, and I'm 26 now. If Wargaming is the hobby for you, it'll be a hobby for life really.

Anyways, if you want any help or have any questions, my pm box is always open.

Ah, the clip is from the Miyazaki anime Nausicaa of the Vally of the Wind. That powered glider she's on is named Maeve.

OH! When I was younger I loved Miyazaki.... Nausicaa was great but my fave will always be Mononoke. I never did become much of an anime fan though, I just like a good story. Its been so long since I've seen Nausicaa I didnt even recognize it.. and had no idea what was the name of her glider! Very cool!

Nausicaa was probably the first anime I saw as a kid, around 9 or 10, but it was a butchered translation called Warriors of the Wind. They did such a terrible hack job on it that later, Miyazaki would allow NO changes to any of his films when translated and released in other countries. It got me into anime a little bit, but there's only a handful that I've really liked and Nausicaa will probably always be my favorite because it was the one that got me hooked.

I've been around the B&C for about 11 years, so if you need help with anything, toss me a PM.

Welcome!

I found that the best way to get into minis was simply to buy whatever you think looks like fun to build, and go from there. I started with a second hand box of misc minis, experimented with them all, and came out of it with a love of power armoured figures above all others. As far as rules and background go, I've found that the most fun is to be had by treating the rules as a good starting point, but ultimately flexible, and the background as entirely down to your interpretation- they are your minis, make them into what YOU want them to be. For example, I am currently collecting both loyal and chaos marines, each with contingents of other armies as allies, and all with a single, over arcing backstory that incorporates HP Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos into the existing 40k universe.

By the way, that Queen Maeve picture - I see a Sister of Battle holding up a Chaos Marine helmet, might make for an interesting mini.

Best of luck.
