VIII Legion by Alan - back from the warp

Hello everyone,
This is my first p&m blog and I will certainly try to keep it up to date as far as my spare time allows it.

Let me start with brief introduction: I am male in early 30-ies, married and father of one child (until I get better job so I can have at least two more biggrin.png ). I started playing GW games when I was around 10 years old and my introduction games were Talisman and Space Hulk.
After few years I became proud owner of Warhammer Fantasy (the one with plastic gobbos and High elves and card stand ins, not sure which ed is that and dont have enough motivation to open new tab and ask Google).
I played fantasy for a long time but then gaming experience started to change, all of a sudden more and more people stopped having fun with toy soldiers and started using terminology like "RAW", "RAI", math-hammer and stuff like that. Warhammer fantasy became extremely boring for me and I stopped playing it and shelved my Chaos Warriors (In my whole fantasy gaming I played Khorne, and even didnt wanted to take wizards in army- well you know, khorne dislikes magic and stuff like that).
After that came GorkaMorka, all the best words for Mad Max orks and started through it playing 40k. Since I saw in those fantastic tomes page with Night Lords iconography crossbreed with Khornate symbols I decided that they are going to be my army.
In the same time I started studying law so that took most of my time until I graduated (right now I live in a pretty crappy country where someone without political or family connections cant do anything, so I as a graduated lawyer work as a receptionist in a hotel  so if someone from Canada or New Zeland here holds an immigration agency feel free to contact me biggrin.png), and got baby so most of my budget went away from hobby.
Thankfully there are a lot of kind people still in the world which donated me a lot of bits and with some second hand buying and swapping I got hold in a last few years on lot of chaos space marines.
So right now for a price under 60 pounds I managed to get enough bits to convert or represent all of units from our codex (by our I mean CSM), vehicles I mostly do from paperhammer templates.

That wasnt so short introduction but without further delay I will speak of my hopefully growing army.

I view my company of Night Lords as a still coherent force which managed to stay pretty strong after the start of a Long War. In short totally opposite of Exalteds warband from pen of fantastic ADB. To show that my company still holds pretty strong contingent of Dark Mechanicum I will convert or scratchbuild most of new vehicles because I cant stand the look of those dino robots or dragon. Also my obliterators are going to be some kind of Mechanicum constructs.

Here are the pictures of the first two squads.

I know that most of those pictures arent best but as soon as I found something better to take pictures I will post new ones. Also red in some of them looks strange so they look like there is no highlights and also after those have been taken I finished those models which needed final touch ups.

P.S. I am not a native English speaker so pardon me if I made some grammar or spelling mistakes.

Is English official or I can answer you in Croatian :D .

It is great to see progress UMS has taken since I became less active, so you can say I never truly left hobby,  just fantasy because I couldnt stand it anymore, also I moved to Bosnia and created 40k group here of similar minded people with whom I enjoy playing very much (sounds like Apocalypse now scenario ;) ).

Return to the first page blog...

Hello everyone, just a quick update to show some life signs. More on this later.

Aegis defense line (made of cardboard, sprues, and balsa) - This has to be one of the greatest thing in this edition Aegis and quad gun for 100 pts, fantastic stuff. I just dont go to war without one anymore.

Note: I am missing one short section in this pic, it hides somewhere.

Count as Noise marines (mostly kitbashed with some guitar strings and green stuff experimenting)

My cardboard rhino with two t-l bolters and havoc launcher for the first claw. Needs some more working when I get some spare time to work on him. There are some highlights on him but camera washed them out.

@ghostly - most of my stuff is cardboard, because I cant find cheap enough plasticard and definitely cant afford ridiculous prices of GW vehicles. I am glad that you like them and hope that you will like also other stuff which will be coming here in next period or until I stop "blogging" progress of my army.

@Bungicats- thanks for the comment, and I started painting Khârn this morning. I think it will be done tomorrow or day after.

Lord Al Ahn smiled, showing his sharpened teeth, Dark Mechanicum allies granted our army with precious Forgefiend warmachine. It radiates destruction and malice from its hull.

If only revered Magos could find a way to attach something else on those land raiders instead of sponson lascannons and hull heavy bolters, but how do loyalist do that manages to stay out of their artifical sight.

Here is my forgefiend  Dlak Prsava cardboard-wire-hotglue conversion (maybe scratchbuild would be appropriate term) .
As I said  I can stand original figures and wouldnt in  a life time give so much money for them so I went and built myself one based on brass scorpion. Its base is still unfinished and I need to wash some cables and highlight them.

New update. Last few days rushed in a second, so I had only time to finish spawns and to start work on some count as noise marines and count as plague marines and Dreadnought (helbrute, seriously GW?).

Hunting beasts (count as spawn)- These beast are residents of Night Lords ships. They live deep in the bowels of the ships in permanent dark, hence the albino skin. Night lords terror claws are hunting these bests which are then released on prey before the main army arrives.
Imposing, mutated, frightening carnivores were idea behind these spawns as I play my Night Lords without visible mutations. Marks are tolerated, because nobody in VIII legion cares about "personal orientation" or interests in divine of other members of claws.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2013/10/25/550348_sm-.JPG

Flayers, condemned, red gauntlets (count as Night Lords with mark of Khorne)- This are my Khorne marked marines. They are equipped with chainblades mounted on the polearm and boltpistols. They are fearsome fighters who usually can be seen in more close quarters combat.
I will repaint them with red colored gauntlets to show that they are already condemned by Warbringer Al`Ahn and will try my best with green stuff to cover their armor with flayed skin.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2013/10/25/550350_sm-.JPG

Plague marines are going to be represented by heavily equipped marines. Skull on the shiields has three eye sockets to represent myrk of Nurgle. I have to put some more guitar wires on them to achieve effect I am looking on them.
Also a lot of things is hard to see because of black primer but I should have some painting in progress in a few days.

Work in progress still-unamed Dreadnought.

Count as Lucius paint in progress, a bit blurry photo but my camera really desnt want to get decent pic of face.

This is repost since I am having two P&M blogs so I could easily duplicate my earlier entry which was lost during crash.

I really enjoy using this guy in my armies, he is kinda weak with 3+ and 5++ but who can resist enormous fun when he starts hitting :D.

Here it is rage incarnate, bloody one, chosen of Khorne, blood spiller, champion of the World Eaters and myriad of other nicknames- Khârn the betrayer. I really really like this guy and liked him since I first saw rules for him in editions long long ago. In my humble opinion meanest "mother sleeper" in 40k.
Those are best pics I managed to take, sadly my camera just cant take decent photos but I believe that you will be able to see everything. I tried some OSL because of that Heldrake conversion which fires its flamer. On the left hand he has a World Eater symbol hand drawn but couldnt get decent focus so I didnt uploaded it, also take notice that in pics it looks a bit shinny but in true world he is mat also red color is again strange, seems that I dont know how to take red specter colors -dont know why that happened. Hopefully I would be able to borrow from someone good enough camera to retake pics of all units again.

I like the idea for running the wolves as spawn. A neat idea I feel tempted to steal. Khârn looks good, good job with the lighting around his pistol. Do you run him and Lucius in the same force? I've had a hard time getting plagues, zerks, and w other elites in the same army. It'd be interesting to see how Khârn and lucius helped you run more troops. I like the new spin on the brass scorpion/defiler model. It certainly lends a new element to ordinary chaos vehicles. makes it look more dark mechanicus like. Keep it up.

@Dan The Deamon - First of all thank you for kind words, your Night Lords are fantastic army which serves as inspiration for all no matter which army they play. About "stealing" idea, as I replied to someone before site crash few days ago, I really dont mind taking, improving ideas from different people because communities like this should serve as central points for inspiration, motivation and encouragement for people who enjoy this not so cheap hobby.

I run Lucius and Khârn more than once in my forces and while they are pretty much glass hammer I found them extremely "killy" as HQs. You just have to take care which one charges what (Khârn for heavily armored stuff and Lucius for those power armored characters and champions). I made once mistake with Lucius, eager to spill xeno Eldar blood and charged his Autarch with smile on my face and taunting my opponent until I realized he has that banshee mask and AP3 or AP2 weapon (goodbye Lucius).

About vehicles in my army- All vehicles which dont belong to Legion troops will be converted in some manner to represent Dark mechanicum allies in my army. I am even playing with idea to make my Thousand sons as some kind of Dark Mechanicum count as, but one step at the time. First of all tomorrow I will post pic of current WIP to celebrate 1000 views.

@Bungicats- thank you, I am also very satisfied considering it was my first try.

To "celebrate" 1000 views I bring most powerful sorcerer of Thousand sons WIP

Thanks everybody for looking at my stuff and commenting I really appreciate that and that helps me going forward.

@WangoFett - well currently it seems that they are most popular thing in my blog.

Cszaba Csizmandia- Warp watcher, Dead talker, Cszaba the hated - Cszaba Csizmandia took over the leadership of 55th company of Night Lords through the blood duel after scourging of Tsagualsa.  After that he was headed to the Almighty Eye where he met Al Ahn and joined his warband to became second in command. Al Ahn has high regard in Cszabas skills in necromancy and warp sight and values his tactical advices and counsel. Fact that with Cszaba came big portion of 55th also helped a lot, and ofcourse a powerful sorcerer is always a good ally. As a token of rulership he still carries power sword taken from the previous commander of 55th, to serve as reminder how are going to finish all who oppose him.

I run this figure as a count-as Ahriman or "ordinary" sorcerer. He will be painted in regular Night Lords colors and that stuff under his legs is going to be painted probably in greenish hues to simulate tormented souls which now abide his will.

Here are some WIP pics of count as Noise marines with their rhino APC. Fluff for them will come when I finish them.
