Hey everyone!  I have been really feeling the Death Company love lately, and wanted to post some pics of my finished projects, and stuff that I will be working on.

There has been a lot of Death Company chatter over the past little while, and I thought this would be a great place for everyone to post their pics of our beloved lost Battle Brothers to the Black Rage, and maybe discuss anything Death Company related thats on your mind.  Enjoy!

Thanks, the dual chain sword guy is my favorite as well.  Going in for the critical strike.  The dual power fist guy is cool as well.  I would never pay the points for 2 power fists, but he looks cool.

I have a theme between each squad.

Astorath has wings, so I decided to give all of his DC wings as well, and positioned them in a more menacing way.  Bare heads as well just like Astorath.  These guys are basically the ones that it's their last battle before Astorath gives them the axe.  Plus you can see their blood shot eyes, and their angry expressions.  They again all have the white hair as they are the veterans that have turned.

Lemartes guides the other squad.  He has the standard jump pack, as does the rest of the squad.  He keeps his helmet on, as does the rest of his squad.  His squad hasn't been as affected by the Black Rage YET, and will live to fight another day.

Tycho and his Bolter Death Company (in which he can hopefully join in the future) are the younger Battle Brothers that fell to the Black Rage at a younger age.  Blonde hair to represent their youth.

The chains on the DC dread are for an upcoming conversion contest.  Like he just broke free from his restraints on the battle field, and is charging towards the enemy.  I like to bend the dreadnought legs into a running pose.  I boil some water, and submerge the portion of the leg that I want bent in the water for about 30 seconds, carefully bend it, submerge it in cold water to set it, and then repeat the process once more.  Just have to be carefull how much you are bending, as the the whole leg assembly may shift out of place a little bit, but minor filing down and it looks back to normal.

I have 5 more DC to go with Astorath, 5 more for Lemartes, and another Furioso all assembled.  But I had a priming accident the other night, and they are currently in a container of simple green...  I primed them all up, looked great, but then it dried grey in some spots, so I gave them another quick prime.  They looked fine, but again they dried grey, and all the detail was gone.  So now I wait...

Indeed, very themed both across the army and in their individual groups.  I especially like the wing placements and might have to steal your idea on a model or two please ! :D

As for drying grey, just be sure to make sure everything is sufficiently warm at room temp, and as soon as you've sprayed them, try to get them back into a warm room again and not leave them to go cold.  Not sure if this was what happened or not, but it's one more thing to look out for now the weather is changing.

Good luck, DC are one of my reasons for having a BA army, so always great to see others complete shabang!

By all means steal away.  My Sang Guard have their wings in traditional fashion, but I never really like how they were "suppose" be attached.  When I build my DC, I try to make each one look different, their are so many options you can do to customize them into bad ass killing machines.

I have a Rhino WIP, but I am waiting for the forge world doors to show up in the next week or so, so I will wait on that one before I post pics.

I also have the Dark Vengeance limited edition chaplain that I converted a bit.  He's primed and ready to paint as well.

As for the priming.  The can was stored inside, I primed them outside.  It was only like 6 degrees celsius, didn't think that would matter as most paints typically say don't apply at less than 4c.  It was my mistake, I will stick to the garage from now on.  Too bad it was on a mass batch prime and not just a small squad.  Oh well, they will be fine... I hope.  I will check on them in a few hours and see how they are doing.  With technically 2 coats of primer, they may need more than just a day.

Those look great!  I like the dark red feathers on the wings, I thought about doing something like that for mine as well, to tone down the all black look, but black they shall stay for the time being.  I may even try to paint a feather like look, but that could take forever...  Most of them still need highlighting anyways.

I really like the poses their in, hunched over ready to deliver the big hit.  Some of my WIP ones are similarly posed.  I really like your thunder hammer model.  Nice work on Moriar as well.  Keep up the good work Brother.

Your highlighting looks so much nicer than mine.  I find it hard to keep a steady hand when it comes to the final stage, mine always end up so thick.  I'm working on it though.  Lemartes was my last one highlighted, and I used the painting medium to thin it all out a little.  I found that worked a bit easier.  What colour do you use to highlight? I use the Eshin Grey, but I find it almost too dark.

I managed to save my latest 10 from the primer disaster. The 2nd coat cleaned off, while the 1st coat did not, but I mixed up a nice batch of Abbadon Black with the paint medium, and it covered up all the grey spots, no brush strokes. Saved me tons of time scrubbing. I will post some pics maybe tomorrow of just the models primed, I positioned the next 5's wings slightly different depending on their pose.

The kit bash is a great use of both the DC box and Sang Guard box. I use some of the sang guard legs/torsos for my dc marines, and of whatever 5 remaining sets you have, I made some Priests, Corbulo, and more jump assault squads. Tycho's DC I added quite a bit of battle damage. Out of the last set of 3 marines, the one on the right has a couple of FnP wounds to the chest...Their troopers. I'll try to get a close up if I remember.

@Redhorse

I remember you saying something along those lines, I can't remember what made Azrael so good though for him to accompany the DC.

Did some research. Looks like his squad gains a 4++. If that's true, that would be insanely good. To bad he doesn't have a jump pack... You'd have to run 30 DC up the table. You would be better of still including Astorath so that you can at least charge multiple units, reduce the 0-1 limit. You could just pay the 60 points for 3 DC, call that "B Team" and "A Team" woud be the rest of the DC on foot with Astorath and Azrael. 2 Furioso's in drop pods, either DC or fragioso's. If they are DC dreads, B Team could join A Team if they wanted to... Then all you needs is a 2-5 man sniper scouts with the DA.

No, you do not need mobility what so ever. I got a friend of mine to field it, it works....really works. They may be foot slogging but the unit is fleet and since its got that nice invuln, you can place it forward, front and center with out worries about losing your save. Who the hell wants to come near that unit? No one, maybe  a screamerstar  or the swarmlord. But still....30 deathcompany!

I've personally noticed my 10 deathcompany with fleet on foot can move pretty fast. On average, I've noticed my charge ranges have been 9 inches due to fleet. So I've been reliably moving my death company 15 inchesI( if they can declare a charge in that turn).

But you see what I'm saying? There is crazy potential. I think I'd work from this :

Allies:

Blood Angels

Reclusiarch with power fist

30 death company with bolters

Furioso blood talons melta gun, heavy flamer drop pod

Death company Dreadnought Blood Talons melta gun, heavy flamer drop pod

Main

Azrael

4 Sniper scout squads

Thanks man. They have been a long and laborious labour of love haha. The highlight for the black is actually taken from GW's Legion of the Damned masterclass so it is light greys added to a very dark blue black base coat smile.png

Cool, maybe I'll look into it.  I hope to get better at highlighting in the future, your models look awesome.

So here are the projects I will be working on over the next little while... 10 more DC, 5 with wings, 5 with standard jump packs, and a dread.

A couple power lances that I made up

The power fist guy I tried to model after the CSM Chosen model.  Really liked the pose.

I like the one on the left, charging forward, going in for the shoulder check.

Same style as my last one, just reversed which leg I bent backwards.  Fists over claws on this one.  I plan on doing some more conversion work with the chains and such once it's painted up.

Liking the poses on your latest DC, the angles of the wings help make them far more animated.

Do you have the front Sarc' of your new DC magnetised for when you convert to Furioso/Fragioso ?  I'm yet to brave 'bending' the legs on any of my dreads, kinda makes me wanna try!

Haven't been on the site since thursday and it seems I a bunch of threads lost a lot of replies.  Oh well...

I didn't get any time in really this weekend for painting, but I got a 3 games in.  Tied my first game with 100% DC against a stupid marine/eldar list with Eldrad.  Would have won if I was able to kill his last Dark Reaper for the extra VP in Big Guns mission.

Got crushed in a big 2v2 game against Iron Hands and Tau vs BA for me, and my ally had BA and IG.  Chapter Master hit my DC with orbital strike, killing 7 of the 10.  That thing is NASTY!  Lost my third game to my friend that plays the Iron Hands, but it was a close, bloody game, lots of fun.  Had a fun Iron Clad vs Fragioso death match which we both wrecked each other after 2nd round combat.

@ infyrana

Yes, I do like the angles better on the second batch as well.  No I didn't magnetize the sarc, I'll just paint up the frag cannon in DC colours, since their is only so many drop pods I would like to own... I 5 built, 1 more awaiting, and I think that's plenty right now.  I will just have to 'pretend' that its a fragioso turned death company :D

The bending is real easy.  Just put a little bit of water in the pot and bring to a boil., Don't submerge the whole leg section.  Hold it with a pair of tongs and submerge the portion that is getting bent.  So I submerge the spot that is essentially below the knee, 30 seconds in, take out, and slowly bend it backwards, not to far each time, and just keep setting it further back each time.

The reason I picked that spot is because I think it makes the most sense mechanically, and it has the least amount of plastic, so it would bend the easiest.  Keep an eye on the two pieces that you glued together, because if you are to aggressive with it, the two pieces (front and back) will shift apart from each other a bit.  Nothing a little hobby knife can't fix though.  That happened on my first one, but you can't tell.  It is really simple.
