@ Augustus - Thanks! I like the darker wings too. Seems more gloomy.

I was actually looking at a Catalan reaver helm last night. Might be something there.

@ Atia - I dunno, skulls are so over done biggrin.png

How's his sword and gunglaive look now?

@ Wicced - Haha, I noticed that. Cyrene was pretty slight, I imagine she didn't make too much of a dent in a Custodes blade biggrin.png

@ Hydra - Thanks! Still sorting through helms yet.

@ KBA - Thanks! I'm pretty sure Argel Tal is my favorite HH character too. Between First Heretic and Betrayer, he is just such a damn good tragic anti-hero. Hope I did him justice.

@ Forte - Appreciate it! How's the rest of him look?

@ Lokkorex - Throw enough things at a wall and eventually one will stick, haha.

@ Helter - Sweet. We should make a fan club.

@ Lokkorex x2 - Thanks! I spent probably as much time on the wings as I did the entire rest of the model.

@ Kurama - You get points for making me giggle.

@ Dos - Indeed I shall! Glad to hear there's a visible improvement.

@ Kreig - Fair enough! Heh, to be fair, they are purple-black, which I'm told is like green's arch nemesis.

@ Conn - Oh that isn't a bad idea! I think I've got a couple extra Thallax heads laying around I could play with.

@ Dark Bjoern - Glad to hear you like the Haunter. It's been awhile since I've painted something that big.

How do his weapons look now a little more dolled up?

@ Midnight - Hah, that's pretty big praise coming from you biggrin.png

@ Black_out - Then go make one! He was a silly easy conversion.

@ Kol - The Black Templar are totally known for slaughtering whole worlds. As long as they are xenos, heretics or witchlings. Or associated with any of the above.

For contextual reference, my company's strike cruiser is named the "Vindictive Genocide"

so like I said, they don't do it on whims. :P

All looking good there Flint. Need to push yourself to do that one extra highlight on things now I think as your speed is great. Just one more to add a little more contrast.

Morning all!

So for those that remember farther back than three pages or so (gosh knows I certainly don't) I tried my hand at painting one of the Mournival back in the Luna Wolf days. I was moderately amused with my take on Little Horus. So for the actual XVI Legion March event, I decided to give my favorite of the Mournival a go. He's still pretty WiP-y, so feel very free to yell helpful things at him ^_^

@ Kol - Indeed not! Takes a long ass time to bring together everything for a Crusade. You don't want to just go declaring them all willy nilly.

@ Forte - Can and will do!

Oh, my bad. Just to clarify...

This is my L'il Horus.

I was going to try and save him to paint for this March of Legions. That lasted all of about 30 seconds.

So this time around, I thought I'd try my favorite of the Mournival, Tarik Torgaddon (pictured dashingly above in WiP format ^_^ )

Replies!

@ Dark Bjoern - Thanks! Glad to hear it.

@ Fire Golem - Just Lil Horus and Tarik so far. They seemed so much more characterful than the crowd favorites ^_^

@ Recon - his arms are. I thought it would be fitting. His legs are a vanguard vet's and his torso & shoulder pads are from the tact marine box. I was aiming to imitate the pose of FW Loken, so I'm glad to hear it worked!

@ Augustus - Let's see, there's Horus Aximand, Tarik Torgaddon, Garvi Loken and Zeke Abbadon. I wanted models of Tarik and Aximand since the other half of the Mournival are so popular. I'm all about the popularity under dogs ^_^

Nice Little Horus! What's teh fourth guy's name again? And will you do him?

There's Loken, Horus Aximund, Torgaddon and Abaddon. After Istvaan III Loken and Torgadden are replaced with Kibre from the Justaerin and Grael Noctua.

Great work on Argel, his Custodes-spear is awesome :P

Torgaddon is also great so far, not sure on the shoulders though (maybe Mk II or III could work better with his helmet?)

either way, can't wait to see him finished =)

Torgaddon is looking good the only slight criticism at this point is I think he's about a head too tall... tongue.png

Joking aside, I find your work inspirational and I'm almost tempted to try and build a Luna Wolf or two for this months March of the Legions...

Afternoon folks.

Need a community opinion here. It's a pretty small part of Tarik, but a couple comments got me thinking. His original shoulder pads were made from MK7 pieces heisted from the tactical marine box set (as most of his parts are ^_^ ).

I think I want to keep his left pad, since A.) it took forever to build from scratch and B.) Tarik's buddy Loken popularized the legion badge switch to the right shoulder with a riveted left pad to deflect small arms fire. (But hey, I could be persuaded otherwise)

But his right pad is still up in the air.

**Which one looks best?**

A.) Relic Armor

B.) Standard MKII

C.) Layered Champion

@ Fire Golem - Ah, I like Kibre and Noctua. Vengeful Spirit is prolly my favorite McNeil novel.

@ Recon - That isn't a half bad idea. I was actually thinking of trying a few more Emperor's Children sometime soon.

@ Atia - Thanks girl! Whatcha think of his ensemble options?

@ Corsovitt - Hardy har har :P

You should totally join the March event! You have an entire month, and its only one guy :D

@ Kizzdougs - Thanks! I like how Argel Tal turned out quite a bit myself. Hope Tarik doesn't disappoint.

@ Angrypantz - Dunno if it's always awesome, but I certainly appreciate it!

I like the Relic Look more, personally. Layered Champion I prefer having on Both shoulders so it doesn't look lopsided (to me anyways).

Mk II is ok but I don't feel like it suits a Captain.

Also, the Higher rim makes it harder for side-swiping neck blows to connect and might actually deflect some bullets.

I actually like the layered champion.

Pure aesthetics-wise, I'm with Kol.

Relic is my least favorite. It just seems more ostentatious than I feel is appropriate for Tarik.

I'd say relic - after all, this is one of the most important guys in the entire Legion. Mk II just feels too plain for him to be honest, and I can't help but associate the layered pad with the 40k era. The relic pad gives him a lil' bit of ostentation whilst retaining the whole simple brutality vibe going on with the rest of his plate.
