Im just waiting on some custom shoulder pads to come in the mail to finish them. This is a pic of my first Sergeant with combi-grav. Let me know what you think. Xenith Posted November 12, 2013 Share Posted November 12, 2013 Great colour! Agree that he really needs some (more) shading to set him off. I'd recommend potentially a red/brown wash, painted directly into the recesses in the armour. Don't actually 'wash' the model, or you'll lose that amazing vibrant green. The red/brown seems odd, but it provides a starker contrast to the green, without being as stark as black. the wash also offers a little gradation at the edges. Experiment with wash colours on some shoudlerpads to see how it looks. I shade my red blood angels with Thraka green and they look lovely. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It's there but my lamp on my desk is really bright and is obscuring them. I usually just wash the recesses with biel tan green and it works pretty well. I base everything with a dark shade of green which is greenskin from army painter and then i use escorpena green from valejo. Then once i get a color i want i use Biel-Tan green for some shading. I apply this just to the recessed areas. All in all its a pretty simple/easy color scheme. Although painting such a bright color does show if you've screwed up at all. I reckon that's just the thing they can have to take them from pretty good to amazing! Check out the Les Bursley/AwesomePaintJob Sons of Medusa painting tutorial on YouTube if you've not seen it before. Really quick and easy way to get your washes looking tight... Ive used the oil wash before and had mixed results. Les makes it look too easy! I wish i was on his level. I feel that no matter how many times i try his techniques i can never duplicate his work. See i'm the opposite, i been painting an 80's style OnG for the past 2 years so looking for something a little darker, in a similar colour to MB's avatar. Just need to do some OSL on the lights and add some more damage and it should be about complete. Plus my first member of a melta suicide sternguard squad. I think he turned out pretty good. Cheers!
