Adeptus Astartes Stormwing Formation

Yes, of cause all Chapter can use everything. However, every Chapter has his ethos. There's a reason why SW are not involved in Death from the Skies and the rumours say that the new SW will have no fliers. SW dislike teleportation and flying and prefer fighting/going to war on their own to feet. This is how Russ wanted to fight them. This is why I am a bit iffy about fliers for SW, but hey, Maybe they changed their mind^^

But SW were included in Death from the Skies - just not a flyer. There are rules in that book for the special upgrades that SW pilots can get. I have not heard rumors from anything approaching a "reliable" source that SW will not get flyers - just people speculating on the forums. I think SW definitely will get flyers.

>>BS5?

That's a special rule of the formation - the Storm Raven gets the Strafing Run rule (Storm Talons already have it).

Was in fact some of faeit 212 sources. Maybe it's just BS and we will get flying scoring super wolves with jetpacks that shoot smaller wolves out of wolf shaped canons. But, you know, just sayin' msn-wink.gif

Oooooooh just imagine

Wolf Wing Formation -  Storm Wolf - Fang Cannon and Wolfstrike Missiles and Power of the Machine Wolf and Wolfing Run

and also the - Wolf Talon Gun Ship -  with Twin Wolfed Las-Fangs

However if we are to look at Space Wolves don't like fliers thing logically. We play Space Wolves because they are effectively big angry space vikings.

If we apply the Space Wolf no flier logic that is had to Iron Age Vikings we would get this -

Snow fell on Olaf as he dragged the longship down to the beach, getting himself ready for a much needed session of pillaging, he breath steaming in the cold nordic air and the ice cold water biting at his feet through his boots.  It was then he heard a voice from the top of the beach.

"Olaf what are doing with that boat, don't you know we fight with our feet firmly on the ground as King Russ intended."

With that voice echoing in the collective mind the Viking Race died out and conquered nothing as they chose not to use boats to get anywhere....

Bro, that was simply legendary :D This Wolf is strong with this one.

Personally, I equate my longships more with rhinos and space ships, less with flier. But I suppose you have a point. You can't do enough choppa if you have no means to get there... even though I think some of you take it a bit too literal ;) (I mean I said prefer, it does not mean they don't do it all)^^

Well, we could have just allied with SM before and get those fliers. Also, although that's just my opinion, I am not the biggest fan of the Storm Raven. Hell yeah, I am gonna get one when I decide to try out SM codex, but not my premier choice. Nonetheless, I am happy that SW can get fliers without allied tax. I just don't find it very fluffy^^

How is it not fluffy?

They are marines, they should have access to all the equipment a codex army has. Land raider crusaders, Achilles, Helios, predator annihilators, land speeder tempests. All were developed by different chapters and yet all are used by every marine army to a greater or lesser extent.

It stands to reason that in the fang, amongst the Leann Russ tanks, we also have storm talons/ravens lurking away. We can't always get planet side with only thunder hawks and pods.

Dude... are you kidding me or are you just lacking in the reading comprehension category, that you have some how gathered from the ONE entry in the Space Wolves codex, that was in the context of teleportation.. that Space Wolves do not fly and only fight with their feet on the ground. The Space Wolves are one of the most Elite of all of the Chapters, a Chapter the Emperor himself uses to keep tabs on those that go against the fringe from time to time, a Chapter the codex explicitly says uses what ever is necessary to get the job done... how in the world do you come to the conclusion that they would not fly in combat. TBH aircraft and the rapid strike, small unit, special operations/unconventional warfare go hand and hand because it is usually hard to deploy heavy support vehicles so rapidly. Aircraft err.. *Flyers* are the best options to support boots on the ground in any fight where heavier weapons and precision strikes are necessary. It is completely in keeping with the Space Wolves 'ethos'

And as another poster added... Space Wolves are in Death From the Skies

Having to buy those fugly fliers, id get a fire raptor for that money, dont care if its better, it looks better

Funny bit is that the Fire Raptor IS better, by far that the Storm Raven - it has the potential to knock out 3 flyers in 1 turn due to it's sponsons being independent fire, plus they can be lascannons and lastly ofcs the Avenger Bolt Cannon (twin-linked iirc) is rather nice... All for a much nicer model, a dedicated gunship and about the same cost pts/cash wise.

All true, but I think it's quite a bit more cash to dish out. Than the SR kit.

I was meaning the formation so 2 Talons + 1 Raven must be nearing 80 quid - 1 Raptor is 95 - but yeah swings & roundabouts really... The raven CAN still be beastly, my mate used one to great effect yesterday blatting daemons :d the beauty of it being that flyers hit other flyers on BS as opposed to 6s (whilst flying ofcs - if they hover it's 6s) so very useful when you've got a flying bloodthirster & daemon prince running towards you.

With the mark up to BS5 vs ground/skimmer units it makes them even better, I'd certainly enjoy BS5 twin-linked ACs, Hurricane Bolters & Multi-Melta :p

I find it amazing that finally Space Wolves have a legitimate option for their own flyer options and people are still complaining.  Who cares if you can put troops in them. Kit them out right abs once you have annialated any Helldrakes you might encounter you can wipe the floor with your enemies ground units. AV12 on a flyer with a MM and AC is dirty against other flyers

Who was complaining? I saw an observation being made but not a complaint.

No no no, you guys have got it all wrong. What the fluff , previous & current Space Wolves codexes (codecii? ) neglect tell you is that SW actually terraform the cargo bays of their ships.

It makes the non-genetically engineered superhuman wolves more "comfy". So, even when Russ was enroute to a planet, he had his feet firmly on the ground.

Flyers finally? Say it ain't so!!! What's next????? Flakk missiles for our Long Fangs? GW has not FAQ'D us over???? Oh, by the way, Death From the Skies does have SW on the charts, they just did not give us any flyers in it.

i'll tell you whats next, the bloody tau formation also. seems you can now have a couple of broadsides and a riptide without the HQ/troops tax. this game is getting broke broke.

I may have been slightly over zealous with that post. There was only one post sayinh the Storm Raven wasn't that great and Talons were pointless. In light of that I posted a light hearted and comical post to make up for it pirate.gif

if you have the C:SM then thats all you need its all the same

only units from C:SM can ride in the raven they cant use tactics the raven is the only one you role reserve for the talons just escort they are treated as allies but dont take up allied FOC
