Shrike Conversion - Done!

Hey guys, I decided to make a Shrike model for one of my friends for Christmas. I was originally going to just paint up the stock model but he mentioned that he thinks the pose is kind of dumb, which I tend to agree with. After some fiddling around I came up with this.

I am pretty happy with it and I'm sure I can cover up some of the sub-standard sculpting with my paint job.

Comments and criticism welcome.

I'm interested to see what you do with this, brother. And don't put yourself down - the sculpting isn't THAT bad. In fact it's at the very least average (I'd say above average, really).

Thanks for the positive feedback guys!

I have been slowly working on him, I don't think he will be done in time for Christmas, so it will be a belated present.

These are just some quick photos with my phone, nothing professional.

So the colors are a bit off and slightly over exposed, I will get better pictures once he is done.

I still have to do the brown leather, the bird skull, the wax on the purity seals, the text on the scrolls, the grenades, the gem on his knee and of course the claws which will have a cool lightning effect on them like how I usually do it.

I haven't even started the jump pack yet, I'm not a fan of painting them. The base will be a desert base with light scrub and the chaos helmet will be Word Bearers or World Eaters (something red).

Let me know what you think so far. I think the painting has covered most of the iffy sculpting. FYI the white has a mid tone and a highlight, it just got blown out in the pictures.

I have to echo the above comments for the GS work and the paintjob.   The GS is outstanding and the paint is display quality so far :)

Don't sell yourself short on GS skills.  A lot of us mere mortals may get discouraged when we see the work of some of the GS masters that sometimes post here, but your finished product looks to be something that will get your game group lining up with suggestions for their birthdays and whatnot :D

Excellent work, your friend will display it proudly.

Thanks!

The black is just Abaddon Black highlighted with dawnstone and then what ever the next lightest grey is, I forget the name.

The white was first painted with ceramite white to build up a lighter basecoat to work off of and then it was painted ulthuan grey. This was then shaded in the receces with agrax earth shade and highlighted with white scar. Nothing too fancy.

And he's done:

Its hard to photograph the white and not destroy the detail, you can see it better in some pictures over others.

Looking at these pictures now I can say that the winged skulls on the jump pack are much more subtle in person.

I used a wood burning tool for the decorations, just thought I would try it, so please forgive the sloppiness, I don't use one very often.
