He sniffed at the cold, morning air. They were close, very close, the wind told him. And the wind wouldn't lie. Motioning for the rest of his pack to hold still, Grimbold Ironskar made several quick gestures, combined with a few guttural growls. That portrayed what he expected of them, should they want this ambush to succeed.

Barely a minute  after he finished instructing his pack, the first of them bounded up the hill. It was a bike-scout, his jetbike the colour of midnight, revving its engine and gliding effortlessly in the air. Ironskar signaled the pack to hold, this prey wasn't worthy enough. They wanted meat, not iron and steel.

A few seconds after the scout went past, came a monstrous behemoth of steel, and Land Raider battle tank, Phobos-pattern. Its sponson cannons panning back and forth, searching, hunting. Fynrk Icebreaker almost gave them away. He was youngest of them all, and not nearly had enough time to train his mount well. It was panting and growling, expecting battle. Ironskar glared at Fynrk, and bared his fangs. The youngblood  took the hint, and began to calm his mount.

After the behemoth rolled past, the meat of the force came. Twenty or more Astartes armoured in the midnight of Nostramo marched alongside their position. This was their target, their preymeat.

With a shuddering howl Ironskar signaled his pack to attack. He urged his mount forward, jumping down the scree slope of the hill. Nine thunderwolf mounted warriors followed him, howling like the Deathwolf himself.

The Vlka Fenryka had come to deliver death to the sons of the Night Haunter.

I will leave you all with that, for the moment. I want to take a little bit, and actually plan this project out fully before committing to it head on.

That's awesome. The names are truly fantastic. When I read Grimbold Ironskar and Fynrk Icebreaker, I got chills. I can't wait to see some models.

Thanks! As a side note, I just checked out your Iron Warriors. They look extremely good, nice crisp paintjob. I especially like the Siegebreaker.

Well well well, expect a project update either tonight, or tomorrow night. Depending on how things work out. I need to convert up a model, and write some fluff, the basic ideas for each is set, I just need to get crackin'!

"So you want to know about Captain Marek Vanya, eh? Even for us of the VIII Legion, his story is chilling. Typical ganger as a child, except he had murdered his first time at the age of five. The knife he had used, well, it's safer to say that it was a short sword. Rumour has it that he pulled it on the lad, the lad tried to pull out his own blade, but was unable to free his own weapon before Vanya had plunged his own weapon through the lad's heart. Fine reflexes, he had. Still has that blade too, it's the one hanging on a suspension belt on his back. To this day, the Captain prefers close combat weapons over anything else, as one can see with Charnel. Ah yes, our glorious captain is quite the character, perhaps another time, I shall tell you another story. Perhaps the Slaughter of Gherstgan? That's a particularly good one. For now, ivalastisha, initiate"

Captain Marek Vanya is the company commander of 100th Company. Nostramo born and raised, Vanya's rise to command has been paved by the deaths of many of his brothers. As a legionary, he slew his squad leader in a blood duel, attaining command of the squad. For years, he tried to outmaneuver his company commander, Nysis Verls, always trying to catch the Astartes off guard. Finally, at the infamous Slaughter of Gherstgan, he slew the captain, and took command of the company. He has since slain seven other ambitious Astartes, each vying for the same rank.

Great model, the ornamentation is very well done. The only thing that I have to say about the model is about the knife. It certainly doesn't look very human. DO you have an explanation for it, such as a trophy from a worthy opponent?

I was also under the assumption that this  was going to be a space wolves log. Now I'm feeling slightly confused.

You should be confused. whistlingW.gif All will be revealed soon enough.

The knife...I'll most likely go into that later on. The original idea was that he found it on Nostramo buried somewhere, it is not human in origin.

First things first: The intro story was AWESOME! I read it and instantly felt supermotivated to continue building my wolves. I am gonna have to write some fluff about my dudes as well.

And second: the prospect of seeing my beloved wolves of fenris battle the traitors of nostramo in a single log will be almost too much to bear. I'm subscribed.

"The Slaughter of Gherstgan? Aye, it was a great moment of bloodshed for us. You'll have to ask Old Red Hands for the story. It's one of his favorites. It's where he earned his sinner's red. Stole a high priority kill from the captain, he did."

Look out for a Model Update tonight.

Brynjarr Valdr is the oldest member of Frostbringer Blood Claw Pack, excepting Durvold Frostbringer himself. A fierce warrior, he has taken news of the Warmaster's betrayal with a bold oath. He will slay a hundred traitors with his own blade, or die trying.

Just wait until the HH series hits the Prospero stuff. The hummingbirds (spacewolves fans) will come to the nectar (anything spacewolves).

Nice models btw,  TheWarmaster!

"Do I regret taking the captain's kill? By the Forgotten Gods, no! That has been my favourite kill to date. It was my kill, I led the attack, I broke the outer defenses, I reaped the human harvest outside of the command post. I tasted Astartes blood too. Then our pompous arsehole of a commander just waltzed right in and demanded that he slay the bugger, just like that. So what if he gave me the Sinner's Red? I don't care. We all die eventually anyway.”

While I may be one of the last people to say anything about models with a metric bleepton of accessories, I have to agree they're a little busy looking. For one thing, a lot of them will impede movement. The knife on the first Space Wolf hangs below the base of his foot when he is standing flat.  His ammo pouches on the left leg stick out too. I'd suggest cutting the third one off. His sword point is also underground.  With the Night Lord, he's going to be clattering around everywhere he goes. The skulls in front will be banging off his legs as he moves, and the one bheind him is liable to get caught and trip him since it hangs past his legs.

One of the most important things to consider when modeling is whether or not what you're making is feasible. Rule of Cool covers a lot of ground on this, but there is a limit before it can start to overwhelm the model. Especially given how a lot of stuff at heroic scale is... well, out of scale.

That aside, your kitbashes definitely have promise. You've got believable implied movement in the two Space Wolf poses.

Looking at them again, I see your point. Not much can be done with Frostbringer's sword, but the knife and pouches can be removed.

About the Night Lords, I'm hesitant to remove the corpse parts, as the fear aspect is so great with them. Nothing like grisly trophies, man.

Painting Frostbringer now, dark grey, so you guys know.

If Shebol is a champion, I'd say keep most of the trophies, but if you're making a squad, spread them out throughout the squad. Everybody only gets to keep his favorite one or two. Otherwise you might start running out of them.
Even if he's a champion, I'd recommend ditching the hanged torso. Maybe it would be better hanging from a back pack, but I suspect it will only look good on a standard or possibly a vehicle. With how it is currently placed, all it reminds me of is trying to carry a packed-up sleepingbag with a long drawstring by looping it over the shoulder. The bag goes bouncing everywhere, catches on everything, and even bounces between the legs to try and trip you up. It's a nuisance and something you'll be sick of within 3 steps.
Overall, a great sense of motion to him, but I'd definitely lose the torso, and possibly the chain hanging off the top of the back pack. With all the other chains coming from underneath, it runs the lines of the back a little.
