Converted Storm Talon WIP

Recommended Posts

Hey! Thought I'd post some pics of my converted Storm Talon. I wanted to make it sleeker and more attack helicopter-like. Here is the result as it currently stands:

Nice work.

It really looks to an Hellicopter, but there is something missing on your model.

A detail that make him Incomplete, but I can't tell you WHAT to add to remove this "Incompleteness".

This missing detail give him a little look of Mono-Driver-Pocket-Sub-Marine

Anyway your Storm Talon looks longer than mine, and I like yours. (+ good choice of weapons, Skyhammer FTW)

I sorta get what you are saying. Idealy, there would have been some winglets to mount the rocketpods on (like the Apache or the Hind), but it just didn't look right when I tried it, so I dropped the idea. It kinda looks like a cross between an attack helo and a GDI Orca from CnC.

And yeah, skyhammers are the best!

Have you attached the tail to the end of the fuselage, rather than the stock version of having it 'wrap around' the end of the fuselage?

You've also removed the stubby wings on the engines.

Both of these things are what I intend to do with my Talons to make them look more like Orcas from Command & Conquer, so if that's what you've done, thank you for showing me that the idea works! And that great minds really do think alike!

If you want to stick to an Hellicopter style, the missing detail is the "helicopter blade". But then it won't be 40k style.

If you want to stick to 40k style, try to use the little wings of the engines, but try placing them differently than the default placement. But then it will looks to an aircraft.

Or maybe you will find something better to remove this "I'm suspended in the air for unkown reason" missing detail.

Yes, the tail is indeed attached to the end of the fuselage. I cut the vertical stabiliser from the body at the juncture where the two meet, and then I glued the two parts of the stab to two triangular pieces of plasticard to maintain the same alignment, and the glued the whole thing to the fuselage. Fairly simple.

I am not keen on rotorblades for the reason you've stated. I've tried leaving the wings on, but it looked really awkward and wrong. Honestly, I'm satisfied with how it looks. Yes, it would probably never be able to fly in reality, but then that is pretty much the case with all of the imperial airframes.

Ho wait, there could be something possible.

Here is a picture of an Helicopter without Blades, strangly similar to a Storm Talon, that doesn't have this "Floating from Nowhere" effect:

And here is what I was thinking about that you could make, but it will not let your Talon as a Modern Helicopter style:

Exactly what I intend to do! Great minds indeed...

Well shoot... A helicopter frame storm talon is just what i'm working on at the moment... must unveil it soon, then. Nice work on the model- i like the elongated frame, it looks much more aerodynamic this way. IMO You could throw in some additional vtol thrusters under the tail section to make it slightly more "suspended", if that bothers You as much as it bothers some commenters, although seeing as the model is visually front-heavy and the tail section is rather flimsy, it stands to reason, that it's the front of it that needs lift. Besides- the tail has wings on them, so some lift would be provided by air flow anyway.
