Hey mate !

A lot of cool stuff in here since the last time I checked :) !

The bloodthirster is great, nice paint job, it drive me back to the good old days ^^.

I'll waiting for the second one and I agree with the "leg day" things but I'm sure you'll manage to get us another very good looking conversion ;)

The sons of horus is really nice too I love the add of equipment goodies he his carrying..

And the best at last.. I'm fond of your chaplain so get at work so that I can see him with some painting on !

Buddy, that vintage Bloodthirster turned out amazing! Your paintjob really proves that there's some life left in that ancient sculpt! Fantastic work! I also had to laugh out loud when the penny dropped regarding the name -- this means I've been immortalised no less than four times across three of your armies, right? Seems like I owe you two named characters, then ;) Although, in all fairness, you should probably have named the Bloodthirster after Duncan Rhodes, seeing how it was his recipe to begin with :)

I am also looking forward to the conversion using a metal Bloodthirster body and plastic Bloodthirster bits. While challenging, the project should give you the chance to get rid of the vintage Bloodthirster's most problematic part -- the giant hands ;)

Oh, and that SoH is looking sweet as well! :)

Thanks, everyone! Replies to your comments below.

I know you guys want me to paint that chaplain - and you can be sure that I will soon. But it is warm and not the best temperature to paint right now. So I did some frolicking with left-over bits I had - among which was the body of the Reclusiam Chaplain (the head of which I used in the coveted chaplain, above). His Crozius unfortunately was lost during the trade in which I acquired him. I realized I had made several Jump Pack toting characters lately, but not a Captain kind of dude. So the reclusiam chaplain body is going to be the basis of a jump pack captain. I decided to give him an axe - because it seems like that's going to be among the best power weapons in 8th.

Mind you, this is still very much Work In Progress: the head is just a stand in. I think I'm going for the bearded sternguard bare head, which will arrive in the next couple of weeks. For his right arm, I'll probably be going for an outstretched arm, aiming a bolt pistol in the distance. What do you think?

Cheers!

Replies:

@ Pearson73: Haha sadly I will not be painting the SoH dude...

@ Checkmate: It might be indeed, and I agree to a certain extent. His paint scheme will make up for it, I suspect, like you said. :)

@ dantay_xv: I think the pouch is from the SM Scouts kit, but I might be mistaken. I have a bag labled "pouches etc", chock-full of those kinds of gubbins, so the origin is sometimes lost in time.

@ malcharion: You should visit more often! ;) The chaplain will be done soon! I promise!

@ KrautScinetist: Haha, the name should be read out loud to fully get the gist, methinks. :) I trust your word for the number of times I've named a dude in my army after you. What can I say? You're just a bi inspiration. Speaking of which, I still haven't build the Night Lords apothecary, which if I recall correctly is the first guy I named after you. Also, Duncan is way too nice to have a Bloodthrister namd after him. Not that you're not nice, but at least you have a Khornate army. :tu: The BT conversion will be challenging for sure, ut I cannot wait to start it. THough at this rate, I'm falling behind quite a bit in terms of built-but-unpainted models.

@ guardian31: Yeah gorilla's do not skip leg day. Like, at all! I guess his proportions will be ore along the lines of the maulerfiend - which is actually a source kit I might use to replace the legs.... :D

Please tell me he is holding severed heads by locks of hair in his other hand and not a pistol.

@ Knight of the Raven: Cheers! It's a bit of a weird sculpt, indeed. The main thin is the way he is holding his Crozius - very, very upright. The axe in my interpretation remedies that somewhat, hopefully. The difference betwee MkII and MKV jump packs is twofold: MkII has 2 and MkV has 1 power coil on the back (not visible here) and MkV has an additional armour plate on the side of the rotors, whereas MkII does not. :)

@ hushrong: He won't! Actually he is now holding a - wait for it - plasma pistol!!

The jump pack Captain is coming along nicely, mate! Quite an improvement over the somewhat awkward base model!

If I can make one suggestion, how about replacing the somewhat bland standard plasma pistol with its counterpart from the plastic CSM sprue: I personally really love the latter's clunky design, and it looks so massive and heavy that you could imagine it being used as an impromptu CC weapon to hit somebody on the head. I think it would really match the model's bulk and its role as an assault specialist.

Haha, KrautScientist beat me to the punch about the plastic aspiring champion's amazing plasma pistol. The loyalist counterpart just looks so... banal in comparison to me.

Thanks for the info on the jump packs. It was the uparmored rotor that made me notice there was a difference to begin with, but I'd still need to check Forge World's assault marines to remember which is which.

Cheers, guys. That's great feedback. I went and looked for a CSM plasma pistol - but seeing as I only ever bought one of that kit, I was a bit worried if I even had one :unsure.: turns out, I had one - and only one! So here's how that looks (also, I changed his head for a mechanicum head):

@ Kierdale: I know right? Unfortunately because they have sucked for so long, I gave them away, mostly!

@ KrautScientist: Thy will be done ;) How do you like him now?

@ Knight of the Raven: No problem - it took me a while to learn to spot the difference wuickly - which only fully rounded when I had painted 10 of each!

@ Sagentus: Cheers buddy! In return I look forward to you getting a custom avatar! :)

I actually have to say I prefer the first head: It feels like the AdMech head really makes him look less iconic, when he should really be an avatar of the Emperor's wrath. The new head, although a great bit, just seems to lessen that impact.

How about a shouting head from the plastic Mk. III Marines?

Hmmm, you two seem to disagree very much. I personally am not the best fan of the original bald head, so I tried KrautScientist's latest suggestion (seriously, you should start a Kitbasher's Coaching service). What do you think of this head option?

I'm also in two minds about these possible heads:

What do you think? Feedback most welcome, as I like where this dude is going! He will have yellow armour (mostly to contrast between his blue librarian and black chaplain jump pack brother characters), but should his trim be gold, black, or steel coloured?

Personally speaking, I like the shouting head! The character seems so archetypal that a Classic bald head is a great match.

The Sternguard heads might work pretty well, too -- especially with white or grey hair.

On second thought, what bothers me about the AdMech head is the lack of a real face and, by extension, emotional expression -- it makes the chracter feel too detached, when everything about his pose suggests at least some measure of emotional investment.

I like the new bald shouting head, the emotion on his face fits the motion of his pose perfectly plus I think it's just a better-looking head than the other two. It might also go well with a darker skin tone as well which could add further visual distinctiveness from your other characters, after all, the Imperial Fists still recruit from a number of different worlds like Terra, Inwit and Necromuda.

Nice work!! I might have to 'borrow' this idea and make it a little more perfect if you get my drift!!

I'm with Krauty on this, the mech head isn't quite right! I like the bald head, but I'd consider a FW resin head for this bad boy. I can't recall what bare heads you've already used on the fists sadly. Pollux or Loken's head would be nice if you can get hold of one.

The bald head works great like he's bellowing orders appropriate for a captain and looks great. The only change I'd make now beyond the obvious filling and clean up is a couple of service studs in his brow.

edit

The axe kind of bothers me, it looks like he's stuck his hand straight up in the air rather than swinging it.

To me thats not a problem as it's as if he's directing his men behind him (in the Iconic pose that says this way lads or "Steady, Steady, Fire" as he drops the axe downwards) while lining up the first shot of the battle with his pistol.

Personally I preferred the mech head. (Makes me think a little of Bane from Dark Knight Rises)

A face frozen by bionics, but full of repressed anger and menace. A mangled wave of distorted sound coming from his vocaliser as it tries & fails to reproduce the wrathful roar of the assault captain

The bald one, nice though it is screams Alpha Legion or T-Sons (or Kurt Angle) to me.
